Hi Dan and fryers!

Hey, nice to hear you, Dan! I loved that first track and this one too. I am crazy about the gamelan and have listened repeatedly to a show you did a long time ago of all gamelan music. Thanks. Dan!

@Marie thanks, glad you are enjoying. Oh I remember that all-gamelan show -- must have been years ago, so glad. This music sounds like a place I want to be lost forever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm
Dan Bodah:

Ah, wow -- 13 years ago! And here it is, 3 hours of gamelan on my old show Airborne Event (rip): www.wfmu.org...

Marie:

Howdy to each and every one of you. Yes, Dan it so dreamy, so to speak. Can't find the right words but it is like it touches the infinite or death but lives on, or somethink.... :>)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm

I had Gamelan practice every week until the middle of March. One of our shows was supposed to be last weekend.

Three hours of Vocal Fry? That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm

@WHH, that is sad! Will you perform at all for the public?

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

When I lived in Santa Barbara once attended an all night long Gamelan with Shadow Puppet show performance. Not so much here small-town New Hampshuh. I miss those times: sitar one day, The Ramones the next ...course we miss everything now...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm
Webhamster Henry:

@Dan We're trying to see if we can get together for practicing. But there are other things going on beside the usual pandemic delays. Here are some photos from 2018 for the 2019 show. Photos by former WFMU DJ Stefan, proving once again that the world is indeed small.

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Intended to be a loose quick comparison of course, but one major difference between dulcimer & koto is those raised bridges. If you play Strings this is a thing - makes Guitar & Violin different - & sitar too even with the frets - which are also raised on sitar...& curved...

Marie:

love this! Oh wow, Webhamster Henry, that is really neat. I am sure the band will arise again. I have seen some bands (jazz0 playing live in parks...

When my brother was married to a woman from Switzerland it never occurred to me to ask her if she yodeled.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm
Dan Bodah:

From Saadet Turkoz's bio on her website: "I was born in Istanbul in 1961 and I am currently living in Zurich.

Due to the political pressure of the Chinese government upon the Turk people in East Turkestan (Uyghur Autonomous Region), my parents fled to Istanbul, where they settled as Kazakh refugees. They transmitted us the rich oral and musical traditions of the highlands of Central Asia. With the tales of their far away country and their journey to Turkey, the elderly people of the Kasakh community influenced my imagination as musician until nowadays."

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm

It was strenuous, chresti. We were pretty wiped out the last mile or so. The dog loved it, though -- and so did we. Glad to be relaxing with a cocktail and FMU, though!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm

@chresti: Dan made it more complicated. I don't know about yodeling, but Swiss people pay a lot in taxes and rent, but are usually rich
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm

Ah, thanks fred. Is Switzerland still considered a tax haven for rich foreigners?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm
