Michael, please ask Mike how he feels about getting a co-write credit for Good Vibrations for coming up with "I'm picking up good vibrations/she's giving me excitations"? Ironic that Brian decided to include it on the new version of SMiLE enabling his cousin to share in the profits for an album he disparaged whenever he could.
  11:23am
J.D.:

In my opinion, Good Vibrations was a separate and complete work; the bridge between Pet Sounds and SMiLE. I wish Brian (or the record company) did not include it on SMiLE.

I was at a BB gig in the early '80s at Westbury Music Fair. Carl wasn't there, but everyone else was. Mike was making fun of Brian for the entire gig, and I wasn't happy about that. Bruce actually came over to me mid-song, and I told him what I felt about Mike goofing on Brian. He made some excuses for Love's behavior, we shook hands and he went back on stage.
  12:22pm
andy fuchs:

Considering what Brian went through, his "recovery" is nothing short of awesome. To make fun of anyone (as JD said) in that situation is reprehensible and further supports my contention he's a DB.

paul: I don't know about you, but the older I get the more mellow I get and the more sensitive and forgiving I became. There are too many things in life a heck of a lot more important than treating a lifelong friend (and relative) like that. If it wasn't for the Beach Boys, what would Mike Love have become and be doing for a living ?

Andy - interesting question - but I honestly think you could turn it around - Brian has talent on a scale that is unbelievably unique - off the charts - but he's also an introvert, and without cousin Mike's ambition and extroverted-ness and ear for hooks, it could be argued that Brian would have not achieved pop success.

Great interview, Mike. Just wanted to add my 2cents with one observation: I once traveled from the corner of Mt. Vernon & Fairway in Inglewood (the site of the old Love family home), and then drove to W 119th Street in Hawthorne (the Wilsons's home) - the contrast explains a great deal of the psychology of the animosity Murry held against the Loves
