BIG THANKS TO V PRICELESS FOR HIS REPEAT PLEDGE!! WE LOVE YA!
  Tue. 3/17/15 1:15pm Dean:

When I think of Jimmy Durante, I think of Fred Hyatt's Opera Show on KPFK. (Related story here: http://articles.latimes.com/1997-05-04/entertainment/ca-55194_1_political-show) One afternoon, Fred wrapped up a set list of arias performed by opera singers known and unknown, and then introduced a "real singer." He played a tune sung by Durante. It was perfect.
  Tue. 3/17/15 1:16pm Dean:

Now you tell us. I've had shingles for over a week.
Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 1:18pm Doug Schulkind:

Any good roofer could replace your shingles, Dean.
Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 1:18pm Cecile:

you can have a great voice but be a terrible singer by not having great taste and phoning it in. That's the root of my Paul Rogers problem. Also my Rod Stewart problem.
Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 1:19pm Tony Coulter:

Umm, I'm playing the "Stone" soundtrack, obviously -- not the DVD. This prize is a DVD!
Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 1:19pm Cecile:

can I still be in the running for prizes even though I gave around the Fe Fi Four?
  Tue. 3/17/15 1:21pm Dean:

By "roofer," Doug, do you mean a dog? Won't that risk fleas?

Cecile, yes! Durante had a terrible voice, technically speaking, but he was a great singer. I can't pick on Stewart. He has made some wonderful records, wonderfully sung.
Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 1:22pm Cecile:

I pick on his later stuff. His early stuff is darn near impeccable. That's why I'm so bitterly disappointed now.
Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 1:22pm Tony Coulter:

@ Cecile: Yes indeed, I think -- at the end of the show.
  Tue. 3/17/15 1:23pm Dean:

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, I don't get near the post-Mercury records.
Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 1:23pm Doug Schulkind:

Cecile, I do not regret to say YOU are the winner of "Eagle Death" by Cerebrum!!!

Thank you Cecile!

The DVD "Stone" is the next prize up. We simply must have more pledges to give it away!
Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 1:24pm Cecile:

HURRAY!!!!!
  Tue. 3/17/15 1:25pm Stanley:

Yeah, I'm with Dean on the Rod. Stewart question. Rod's me man until he went all pappy. And while I'm at it that Stone track was excellent, almost as good as the beer.
Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 1:25pm Tony Coulter:

HEY!! No pledges have come in for a while!! I hope there's a pill for that. GET IT ON & PLEDGE YOUR LOVE TO FMU!!
Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 1:27pm Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 1:27pm Cecile:

yeah, you have a great chance of winning something. Just sayin'.
Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 1:30pm Tony Coulter:

I haven't seen "Stone," but I imagine this is the scene where the biker gang licks toads.

Tony's show is halfway home! We would love to get at least one Mouse of Today pledge in full during Tony's show. That would get us tantalizingly close to meeting the goal!!!!

@Tony - That's amazing! I have a decent mp3 copy of Photographs 1, am blown away that A. Neffe is remastering that track for you.
Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 1:47pm Doug Schulkind:

@kimgland
The stream runs 24 hours a day. There are live radio shows, like Tony's, Monday through Friday. The rest of the time, the stream plays random bits of genius. You can check out the schedule here: wfmu.org...
Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 1:48pm Cecile:

wow, I heard some of Emerald Web's later stuff and didn't like it much, but this is really lovely.
Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 1:49pm Tony Coulter:

@ Cecile: Yeah, they did kind of go way downhill, unfortunately. Got way too New Agey. The early stuff is fab, though.
Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 1:50pm Cecile:

I even think they used to sell those tapes at SF conventions IIRC.
Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 1:50pm Doug Schulkind:

Our next winner:

The Stone DVD goes to... Stanley in Edinburgh!!!
Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 1:50pm Cecile:

Now w/ the immigration thing no longer hanging over our heads, if I need to, I can take a job out of town (almost did a few times)
Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 2:02pm Doug Schulkind:

Is it hyperbolic to say that Tony's radio show is exquisite? I really don't think so.

In addition to raising bucks for WFMU, the Drummer Stream would like to represent to the station and the world that it has loyal and sustaining fans. In some ways, getting a large volume of individual pledges is just as important as bringing in lots of dollars. If you haven't yet pledged, please take a moment and add your voice to the chorus expressing appreciation for all we do here at Give the Drummer Radio.

Tony's direct pledge link is here: www.wfmu.org...
Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 2:30pm Tony Coulter:

I once found Arthur Lee Harper's "Dreams & Images" on vintage LHI vinyl after searching through 1000s of barely classified flea market albums. That was a good day...
Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 2:43pm Tony Coulter:

There are still two prizes left, both LPs: Arthur Lee Harper's "Dreams & Images" (no longer available in local thrift shops) and Claude Lombard's great self-titled LP. Your chances of winning one of them are VERY GOOD!!
Avatar Tue. 3/17/15 2:44pm Doug Schulkind:

We're kind of stuck on 62% and we really need to see a triple-digit percent, if you get my drift.

This is your last chance to show your support for all the hard work and wisdom Tony pours into his fantastic show. This here freeform program and it's tag-team buddy, Tape Hiss. Amazing music you adore and amazing music you've never imagined before. Tony delivers it to your inner ear each and every Tuesday and has done so on WFMU and the Drummer Stream since 1997.

Boost Tony's morale and boost WFMU's ability to continue bringing you this damn fine show for another year!
