Welcome my friends! Please help us bring the station total to the 1/2-way point today, we need to make about $5,000 to get us there!
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:14pm Matt from Springfield:

That's a good strategy--as well as a "Black Strategy" too!

Hey Scott and Scotians! Let's do it!!

Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:19pm Caryn:

@Matt: I've always thought that that name would be way cooler, if it had arisen "naturally" and not just as a publicity stunt.
  Mon. 3/3/14 3:19pm LovecraftDude888:

too tight to mention said Simply Red guy
Avatar Mon. 3/3/14 3:20pm tim from champaign:

Valentine Bros did "Money's Too Tight" first and best.
  Mon. 3/3/14 3:22pm LovecraftDude888:

Cecile..wow forgot that! thanks for reminder.
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:22pm Sem Chumbo:

@Caryn: you mean there's a chance Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, might not have had it's name arise naturally? I always thought it might have been a desert Buddhist thing...
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:22pm Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: It's like the full name of Los Angeles (or Bangkok-Krung Thep for that matter). Fairly easy to take the full "founding story" of a place and spell it out, though places that are visited frequently (L-A, Bang-kok) can't afford stunts like that.
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:23pm Cecile:

I'd love to hear Prince Charles and the City Beat band do "Cash Money"
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:23pm Matt from Springfield:

Obscure places have more incentive to stretch it out, but I'd hate to see a "long toponym arms race"--it would make even short journeys intolerable!
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:24pm Cecile:

Far-out space from Romania! Since it's instrumental, probably there were no hassles from the Stalinoids. [?]
  Mon. 3/3/14 3:25pm r i s k y:

Yay Scott Yay!!!!
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:25pm Matt from Springfield:

@Sem: Before I found out about the TV show and the town's publicity stunt, I saw the town on a map and actually did think it had something to do with, perhaps a treacherous section of the Rio Grande!
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:25pm Matt from Springfield:

GooOOOO SCOTT W!
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:26pm Cecile:

TDK: ceausescu would've been the one hassling them - he was a nasty chap.

Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:28pm Matt from Springfield:

@Cecile: "You're a naughty one - nasty chap! A real haughty one - saucy Nicolae!..." Hmm, has a ring to it but ought to find a rhyme...

Avatar Mon. 3/3/14 3:29pm TDK60:

Cecile, Yeah, Ceausescu. But wasn't he a Stalinist? Or merely a Ceausescuist? Either way, a nasty beloved chap.

Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:34pm Cecile:

that's funny. I liken speaking Maori to speaking with a bubble in your mouth - it's so gentle.
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:35pm Ken From Hyde Park:

When the 50% level comes, the traffic jam should jump up another notch on the main WFMU page. Will Governor Christie will appear at some point? One way to find out!
  Mon. 3/3/14 3:35pm Nicole:

OLD!!!
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:36pm Cecile:

not that I can speak it.
The only words I know in Maori are "whahanu", "Kia ora" and "taika waititi". And one of these is a person's name.
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:36pm Matt from Springfield:

All right Grandma Phyllis!
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:37pm Cecile:

Grandma Phyllis!
Avatar Mon. 3/3/14 3:37pm glenn:

kia ora is hello, so which is the name?
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:38pm Matt from Springfield:

Whahanu? Sounds like a proper name, or a place.
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:39pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

gonna do it.
…….gonna do it…...
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:39pm Cecile:

Taika Waititi. Whahanu is shy. I got that word from a Jemaine Clement interview for a Maori radio program. Yes, I am kind of an obsessive FOTC fan.
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:39pm Cecile:

Taika Waitit is a film and TV director.
  Mon. 3/3/14 3:40pm LovecraftDude888:

Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:41pm Matt from Springfield:

Ahhh, the Prize Warehouse! A great attic of past premiums! For me there are so many great/inspiring DJ premiums every year, I'd have to be far richer to get *every* one I want! But pledge at least a Mouse ($365) every year, and you get a second chance to grab those premiums! My favorite warehouse super store!
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:42pm Matt from Springfield:

Greg from Bloomfield designed the shirt? All right! GoooooOOO Greg!
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:43pm Cecile:

Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:43pm Cecile:

So I know one more Maori word than I thought. Yay me.
  Mon. 3/3/14 3:43pm r i s k y:

Who won the Rodian GA???
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 3:44pm Cecile:

Matt...god bless ya man
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 4:04pm Matt from Springfield:

@DCE: I'm borderline OCD myself, though for music completism I alternate between obsess/neglect.

e.g. I thought of the classic clip doco "The Atomic Cafe" the other day, and realized that I *think* my Dad got me that for a Xmas/Bday. But I didn't watch right away and it slipped out of mind. Now I'm trying to locate it to see if that is the case...
  Mon. 3/3/14 4:05pm LovecraftDude888:

i watched Atomic Cafe a number of times years ago it was always on cable at some point. Soooo sick. As a kid on LI in 70s we still did the nuke hallway drills!!!

Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 4:29pm Skirkie:

Pretty sure Ira played every instrument that night.
Avatar    Mon. 3/3/14 4:31pm Matt from Springfield:

@Skirkie: Ira was a true team player, for sure!

And THAT was the time Irwin performed Amanda's "Worship Me"! With Ira on sax, and X.Ray Burns shirtlessly throbbing his gut! Only folks like us would call that "beautiful", but that was pretty damn beautiful! :D
