@Ken - I do, of course
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:06pm Matt from Springfield:

Scott seems to have slightly different facial hair every time I see him--to include SHAVING his beard but leaving the mustache, mid H&M, in order to sing a Hall & Oates song! BRAVO Scott!

And BRAVO listeners! Freeform's safe for another year! :)
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:06pm Greg from Bloomfield:

Congrats again, Scott! I'm so tired my eyeballs hurt, but it was well worth it.

Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:10pm Van in DC:

Ha! I googled "What can I buy for $11" and the top real result was for "What will $11 get you at Taco Bell". Boggle.

Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:19pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I feel like a crumb when I bug people to buy fund-raising items for my daughter's school. Hard to imagine pleading for two solid weeks to raise $1.2M. You guys have a good product going.

Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:26pm Dominick:

So good
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:26pm listener james from westwood:

Does this qualify as a motorik cut? :)
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:26pm Billy Jam:

thanks. I thought the band were so tight (as always) and I enjoyed everyone's songs with highlights including Thomas Stork's Cheater Slicks cover and Nachum Segal's set opener of the Carpenters' "Yesterday Once More" - but overall what I loved most about the WFMU Marathon this year and every year (as both a listener and participant) is how in keeping it is with the overall vibe of WFMU: it's unique, fun, and irreverent and most unlike your stereotypical college or public radio station fund-drive
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:27pm Mike VL:

Bas- I think you deserve a huge thank you as well. You go above and beyond. dank u!!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:28pm Cheri Pi:

Get any sleep SW or are you surviving on fumes? Listeners want to KNOW
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:30pm Bas NL:

@Mike VL Thanks my friend! But hey, WFMU's THE place to be!!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:30pm Cecile:

Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:36pm Ange:

RIP chairs murdered by the marathon
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:37pm Cecile:

listening to Clay doing Eric B and Rakim. Awesome
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:37pm Matt from Springfield:

Though at FMU, I would think chairs are never "retired", they're used until they die a battle death.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:37pm listener james from westwood:

WFMU: Home of Exploding Stool.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:38pm listener james from westwood:

@Matt: The squeaky studio chair in particular warbled its unique call for many, many years.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:39pm Matt from Springfield:

@LJFW: Oh no! That squeaky chair was Julie's signature, all quiet at that time in Studio A except for her and the chair. RIP, Squeaks...

Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:40pm Cheri Pi:

Scott, you should post the slow-mo vid! It's hypnotising
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:41pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

[bursts into room via spectacular hollywood-style crash thru skylight, slinks into corner leaving behind a trail of broken glass, pulls out WFMU flask and drinks quietly]
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:42pm Van in DC:

Congrats again, thanks for a good show so far Scott...gotta run!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:44pm Cheri Pi:

CUT! we gotta do it again*pulls out flask from snood*
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:45pm Matt from Springfield:

Welcome RTD! Cool guys, don't look at explosions or the skylight they crashed.

Have a great day Van--and a great *year* listening to WFMU! :)
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:48pm Scott Williams:

CP, haha! OK, I'll try
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:49pm Cheri Pi:

OR [removes flask from dewlap, shakes off excess staples, tips head towards broken skylight]
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:49pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

SCOTT: my adoption papers went thru! Clearly the security team at WFMU didn't see the dodgy criminal record...

Congrats on a bewildering 'thon..!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:51pm Scott Williams:

REV DAD!! Oh, I am so pleased. Just tell me how high to jump.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:51pm fleep:

Happy happy happy dance! WOOT. Congrats everyone.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:51pm Matt from Springfield:

Scott is in complete control--we submit to this charismatic leader completely!! Wait, we already did? Okay, um, how bout "That's a cool vid, Scott!"
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:52pm Cheri Pi:

Scott W. Druid has a nice ring to it.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:52pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Just take yr.Flintstones Chewables™ and stay healthy, fer crissakes. I can't afford another visit from CPS (see: Bryce adoption)...
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:52pm tim from champaign:

Malevolent weird beard, Scott. I dig it.

Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:53pm steve:

is it not a seriously, unusually massive victory for the station that the goal was reached post-Scharpling (~$200k a year??) AND with a broken transmitter for most of a week? i feared the worst til the very last day... what a relief.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:54pm Scott Williams:

@tomasz! so sorry you missed the fun last night. thanks for everything you contributed all Marathon long, especially your very swell vibe, my friend
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:54pm tim from champaign:

Bryce probably had CPS's number on speed dial, RTD.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:54pm Cheri Pi:

My favorite is the super sneaky palm drying maneuver...
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:55pm Matt from Springfield:

I give GLOBS of credit to our devoted listeners, steve. I was concerned about that too at the beginning, but we remained on track throughout the Marathon--even with the transmitter about to cash in its Social Security. So hooray listeners!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:55pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Man, I was in gig-prep hell most of the night & couldn't tune in to the Hoof. Is the video archived as well? That question has probably been asked a hundred times by now (?)
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:56pm Ken From Hyde Park:

How many times did Ken praise the engineer, Eric, who found the root cause of the transmitter problem? Thanks, Eric!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:56pm Cheri Pi:

"Have we got a video?"
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:58pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

[nice. Now I've got Video Nasty running thru me head. It could be much worse...]
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 3:58pm Julie:

All hail Eric Spiegel

Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:04pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:09pm Prashanth:

man....FMU introduces me to new music everday...in fact the word 'new' is redundant...its an ocean out there
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:09pm Matt from Springfield:

Have to look up that song after this--but don't feel bad, inducing earworms is kind of Manhattan Transfer's raison d'etre...
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:09pm northguineahills:

I went to go eat lunch at 2:45, so of course I missed us hitting 100% (but I knew it was only $500 short at the time).
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:10pm Scott Williams:

hey madman, nice to see you friday!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:11pm dc pat:

Love this Valenca tune, guy's nuts...
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:11pm Matt from Springfield:

You're right, Prashanth--it's not even "new" here, it's an ocean, it's like being at the bottom of the ocean, immersed in all sorts of mysterious and wonderful things! Some of which you recognize, others that are strange but pique your curiosity for more!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:11pm still b/p:

Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:12pm tim from champaign:

MfS - Only look it up if you're a glutton for punishment. A friend and I were goofing on Weather Report. He then told me that the Manhattan Transfer song popped in his head which then cursed my brain. WFMU is good for giving me a good brainwashing.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:12pm Prashanth:

I thought if FMU reaches its goal the dog will reach for the cow's throat and a fountain of green blood will splash the screen with "we made it".....hmm

Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:15pm Matt from Springfield:

@TfC: Caution noted--though useful if only for cataloging into my Index of Dangerous Earworms (Vols. 1-118). Like Maxine Nightingale's "Right Back Where We Started From" -- if I absolutely couldn't get an earworm out of my head, I used to resort to that "nuclear option".
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:15pm Prashanth:

@braveness:mainstream and sensibilities dont go together.. WFMU assures easy bowel movements for the musically constipated until now
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:16pm Uncle Michael:

Hey Prashanth ever been to Vienna? (Wein)
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:16pm braveness23:

@Prashanth That'll have to do for now.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:17pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Station Manager Ken says the only way to get rid of an earworm is to replace it with another earworm.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:17pm Matt from Springfield:

Sounds like a dangerous earworm, that Sparks line!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:17pm Prashanth:

@Ken: Earworm orgies lead to some serious brain damage man...
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:17pm steve:

tim i just watched 3 seconds of that on Youtube and immediately switched it off, i knew right away id be in trouble if i gave it any time to sink it
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:18pm Brian in UK:

Great to see people are still pledging.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:18pm Whooda:

a pint of cheap whiskey, a pill bottle full of stool softener and FMU on the laptop. I'm good to go.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:18pm Matt from Springfield:

@Ken HP: I agree! But I guess I was used to Maxine enough that it had a quicker "fade" then a brand new earworm, hence my nuclear option of replacing with that.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:18pm Matt from Springfield:

@Brian: I've been to Paradise, but I've never been to Wien... ;)
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:19pm tim from champaign:

South Park gets rid of earworms for me....to be replaced with some really nasty visions...
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:22pm Matt from Springfield:

@steve: Yes, way to use proper Hazmat listening procedures for avoiding contamination!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:22pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@Matt - Society is like that, too. One dumb fad is replaced by another. Planking one year and twerking the next, and so on. (By the way, thanks WFMU for not twerking last night.)
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:22pm Prashanth:

I'd love to hear MF sometime...the big and great Maynard Ferguson
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:22pm Uncle Michael:

I've spent my life exploring the subtle whoring that costs too much to be free.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:23pm dc pat:

with earworms you have 2 choices: 1. replace it with something equally slithery but less irritating; 2. go for noise to completely smother it.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:23pm tim from champaign:

When Buck Biloxi and crew were on Chic-A-GoGo, they went as Buck Biloxi and the Yucks.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:23pm Van Morrison, contractually obligated:

@Whooda: I can tell by the look on your face..that you've got: ringworm...In fact you're lucky, you've got ringworm...cause you might have had: something else. Wooo!...
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:24pm steve:

Vitamin U by Smokey Robinson consistently eliminates all earworms for me. but it replaces them with Vitamin U, which is generally a step in the right direction.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:24pm Andrew Waterloo:

We need dumb fads though. Where else are we going to get weird nostalgia to feed off of?
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:25pm dc pat:

option 2 works best for me because it lifts you out of the whole goopy swamp
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:25pm Carmichael:

What it be, dawgs? Post marathon bliss mode, post killerScott W performance mode, etc ....

I was thinking Bryce would be twerking. Thankfully, no.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:25pm Matt from Springfield:

@Ken HP: Some people are just addicted to dumb trends! Like Newton's law, they can be neither created nor destroyed, just shifted around to other trends! (Though: on Irwin's "Subterranean Homesick Blues" cue cards, "Twerking" was written on one! ;)
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:26pm Cheri Pi:

I was just called out for a minute to the microfilm readers here, I had to scan an article from Creem, circa 1971. what a weird strange trip the last 7 minutes have been.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:27pm Whooda:

I saw some gal terwking on a DJ on the live stream last night. I don't know everyone's faces or twerking sides but it was pretty hot.

@dc pat: Leo Kottke said he would learn to play the earworm tune backwards, so it cancels itself as bring out-of-phase.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:28pm Uncle Michael:

We've come a long way since the '70s.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:28pm Matt from Springfield:

@CP: Wow! Lester B. article?
And I just saw Dallas Buyers Club this weekend--it showed a microfilm reader! I think I last used one at my university library, 8 years ago.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:30pm doca:

@CP: Where do you work? I love microfilm, very useful, though I used it only three or four times in my life
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:31pm Cheri Pi:

it was written by Patty Smith
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:32pm Matt from Springfield:

That's still pretty cool though! She was writing for Creem in '71--that's well before she went even kinda-mainstream!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:33pm Cheri Pi:

I work at an academic, midwestern library @doca. We can scan microfilm into neat .pdfs now.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:34pm Cheri Pi:

Is there a reprint of all the Creems I wonder?
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:34pm doca:

That's beautiful, Cheri Pi. I think microfilms can be preserved more easily than any other type of document, I guess, and .pdfs can be widely distributed. Great way to go (:
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:36pm MenfussMike:

Congratulations on hitting the sweet spot, WFMU!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:45pm Matt from Springfield:

@Menfuss: Science programs use space-like music--Mike Oldfield and Brian Eno soundscapes have been used in a lot of NASA films of the 80s.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:47pm Cheri Pi:

there's a lot going on here, even for the multibraining types.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:49pm KevinfromBayRidge:

C0NGRATS FMU!!! Back in the Fat Suit Ken! Let's buy us some earworms.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:50pm Cheri Pi:

lo-fi Dieter, izatchooo?
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:51pm tomasz.:

speaking of earworms, i had the JM in the AM opening theme in my head for approx. 4 days last week
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:51pm Carmichael:

@doca: microfilm, like all other film media, disintegrates slowly over time. The County Clerk Recorder where I work is undergoing a huge program to move all microfilm documents to pdf. Big bucks, but very important.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:53pm Cheri Pi:

I've had that before tomasz. and now that I know what Miley Cyrus sounds like (thanks to precious DJ Keili) I get that thing stuck in my head. against all my will.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:53pm common:

sad story, scott.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:54pm Matt from Springfield:

@tomasz: Oh yeah, that's one strong earworm! I don't know the words, but I sure can "sing" along to it even now!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:54pm doca:

@Carmichael: yeah, all media desintegrates, but I held some grudges against the digitalization processes. There's no guarantee that .pdf won't be corrupted or will be preserved any way in the future except for the fact that it is easier to make copies of it. Besides, you really need a BIG budget to move works to digital form.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:56pm doca:

@Carmichael: Saying this, I think everything should be make digital, so more people can consult documentation (my Master's was all about getting things in Google Books, Brasiliana Digital and Gallica without having to travel to France, Portugal or the US)
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:56pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Does the scanning process convert the microfilm to ASCII? For instance, is "A" stored as a 41 in binary or would it be stored as a picture on the letter A?
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 4:57pm Cheri Pi:

Someties I get Dave the Spazz' intro stuck in my head...
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:00pm Cecile:

back from worky work stuff and Ustream overload
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:01pm Carmichael:

@doca: In this case, they're a bunch of individual documents (marriage licenses, birth certificates, etc ...), so its not so much the file size but rather the sheer volume of files. But yes, large works of writing (like the OED) would be very tough. But you gotta back them up somehow.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:02pm Scott Williams:

Fabio's "Giant Man" is a great earworm
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:02pm Andrew Waterloo:

@doca, All conversions risk corruption. At least with digital (and an open format) you can write algorithms that will help you identify and correct potential problems.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:02pm Andrew Waterloo:

I've had Pulp's "Babies" stuck in my head for awhile.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:02pm doca:

@Carmichael: Yeah, one needs to do it. It's just that converting things to digital doesn't necessarily imply "democratization" of access or better chances of preservation. You lose something there too
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:04pm MenfussMike:

@SW yes, i LOVE "Giant Man", when i first heard it I thought it was zappa. not sure why.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:07pm Cecile:

THis epic song sounds like something that would fit on Diane's show.

I have "roll bounce" on an infinite loop in my head these days.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:07pm doca:

@Andrew: The thing is, what and how would we correct historical data? The very fact that one can change a document this way blurs the distinction between an authentic and a falsified document. But again, this doesn't mean it shouldn't be done, especially if in the conversion process there is a mistake, as those that happen in "Google Books Art" tumblrs or those things
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:08pm tomasz.:

Scott: cheers, man! it was a blast. i shall return
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:08pm Bas NL:

I've had an earworm for over thirty years; taped it from radio and never found out what it was. Sounded like Brazilian carnival hit and it had the text: "La vie continue, la vida se continua". It think the artist was something like "Suzy Casseia" (by DJ announcement, but then the earworm had already started) Ring a bell with anyone??
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:08pm MD:

Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:09pm tomasz.:

Bas, pledge hero! you got the tape still, by any chance? you could try Shazam-ing it if so...
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:09pm Cecile:

bas, try running it past doca the next time he's on here.
  Mon. 3/10/14 5:10pm GM:

Scott, FYI, this SubRosa release is excellent. Great tune here...
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:10pm Whooda:

@Ken micro film also has images so the conversion is probably a bit map to PDF. Then the PDF might be run through Optical Character recognition to format into typesetting. I'm just guessing and probably shouldn't butt-in.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:10pm doca:

@Bas: "E a vida continua, e a vida continua, esse é o dito que todo mundo proclama. O consolo dos aflitos e a desilusão de quem ama". Maybe it's that song. It's a classic by Paulinho da Viola.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:11pm chris:

OMFG, This SubRosa track is killer.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:11pm Carmichael:

This song is gigantic. Several dozen stories tall.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:11pm Cecile:

hahahaha, speak of the dev-, doca!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:12pm Cecile:

Epic as the kids say.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:12pm Andrew Waterloo:

I used to get the odd ear worm from listening to post-rock, and I'd be trying to find this 1 minute segment of music that was buried somewhere on one of a dozen albums.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:12pm doca:

@Andrew, Carmichale and CP: Just to apologize. I'm speaking always theoretically about what you do everyday in your works. So sorry if I sounded like a pain in the ass
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:12pm Matt from Springfield:

@Bas: That reminds me of the old WHFS tape I have, with alternative music broadcast late night in Washington DC in Feb 1984. I've found some marvelous groups from that recording (Laurie Anderson, Cocteau Twins!), but there is some stuff so obscure that it's unGooglable (like some *socialist postpunk* dance music!)
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:13pm chris:

Already a legend! Brimfuls on the 45!!
  Mon. 3/10/14 5:13pm Ralphine:

Oh. I thought for a second that was Asha Bhosle singing.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:13pm Matt from Springfield:

YES chris! :)
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:14pm Whooda:

@Doca President Obama's long form birth certificate is a product of photoshop; a clear forgery. Your're right about reproductions not being authentic. That is an example where the Constitution was subverted with a falsified electronic reproduction. You will remember the woman that released that document died a mysterious death after surviving a Hawaiian plane crash recently.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:14pm Stanley:

@Ralphine - Asha Bhosle on a bad night.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:15pm Bas NL:

Cheers @doca and all! I got to dig it out; must have it somewhere.. It was maybe African.. Soca.. must find it again.. He,he, Rob W... awesome!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:16pm Matt from Springfield:

@Stanley: Before tea and vocal exercises, after a night of wild partying at the Bollywood premiere party!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:17pm doca:

@Whooda: I don't know the document you're talking about, but this is a sensible issue in the opening of the archives in Latin American countries regarding the military dictatorships. Things get converted to digital and then launched to the public out of context and sometimes with no guarantee that the document was not altered in some way. Most of the times not, but besides an institutional imprint somewhere, you don't have a safeguard that the document won't lent itself easily to misuse (but any document can be misused...oh boy)
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:17pm chris:

Music to theorize conspiracies by!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:17pm Stanley:

@MfS - Ol' Asha was such a party animal.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:19pm Whooda:

@Doca the forgery of Obama's BC was discovered becuse is was poorly executed and still showed the "layers" it brought over from Photoshop. The layers are only recognizable if the 'orignial' (fake) document is still in digital form and opend in a graphics software program that supports layering.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:20pm Carmichael:

@Whooda: Now, with your statement, you have released the black helicopters from the control zone. EBE-3 (EBE-1's son) will be there momentarily. Your only defense is a large chunk of Element 232. Good luck!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:22pm Whooda:

@chris it' *was* a conspiracy, now it's a proveable crime and hopefully the murder of Loretta Fuddy will be proven too.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:22pm doca:

LOL Carmichael
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:25pm Whooda:

@carmichael I'm ready for 'em. I have my gold-plated foil hat, and assualt rifle loaded with jelly beans. And just for safety when I',m alseep, I nap in a homemade Tesla cage. :)
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:26pm Andrew Waterloo:

It's kind of ridiculous to assume that because a digital scan of a document has "layers" that it's a forgery.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:27pm Ike:

@Whooda, you're not just poking hornets' nests today, you're darn near trying to pan-fry them with habanero chili sauce while the hornets are still inside.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:28pm Matt from Springfield:

Gold-foil! That's a good one, you can also use it for trading once the helicopters and satellites are all brought down after the collapse!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:28pm Carmichael:

@Whooda: Unfortunately, they won't help you when you're 7 levels below White Sands, New Mexico, in a cage with all the other human/alien hybrid experiments.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:29pm Whooda:

@andrew, a paper document would not have electronic layers. Plus the type faces didn't match from the type. I told you it was poorly done. You can research it yourself, I'm not trying to convince anyone. Next you will expect me to claim the NSA is tracking every move of everyone on Earth in real time.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:30pm Bas NL:

@doca Found the track on my hd! Must have survived at least three computers ;) Uploaded it here goo.gl... If you could point me to it's origins.. VERY much appreciated!! ;)
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:30pm Whooda:

@Matt haha that's very resorceful thinking :)
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:30pm doca:

A digital document has layers and not necessarily is a forgery, to support Andrew in this. But if a forgery is a bad one, it should appear kinda easily.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:30pm Andrew Waterloo:

@Whooda The problem with your argument is that you're forgetting that scanners introduce layers.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:32pm Andrew Waterloo:

@Whooda this is one of those conspiracies where a bunch of non-experts ask a lot of non-expert questions..
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:32pm Whooda:

@Andrew, what flatbed scanner does layers without software to support it? Again, just research it. It's not a fact I want to prove to anyone on a music board.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:32pm doca:

@Whooda: Yeah, it's part of the digital thing. The digital establishes a different relation between content and form, as one becomes another but, at the same time, you can change one without changing the other (like presenting something in a different manner than the original but keeping the same content, as a Kindle file does)
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:34pm Andrew Waterloo:

@Whooda Any scanner that outputs any file format besides Jpg.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:36pm Whooda:

@Doca Kindle doesn't do layers. I was a printer and then a digital prepress operater for the California State Publishing Office (formerly State Printing Plant). It has been years ago but I trained with Photoshop, Illusterator, Pagemaker, Quark, etc. I operated the first digital color copier there. And Loretta Fudd is still dead AFTER surving the crash.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:36pm doca:

@Bas: I don't know where it comes from, but those guys at Global Groove or Dial Africa blogs should now. It sounds like something from Congo, especially that it sounds like french or a creole french. There's one line in Portuguese, though. Maybe they're Cape Verdian, but I don't know
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:37pm Andrew Waterloo:

Most scanners will optically convert text on a document into some from of editable ASCII txt. So the scanner will attempt to separate document into layers of separate paragraphs and separate images.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:38pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Tom Cameron's track reminds me of Koyaanisqatsi or Powaqqatsi.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:38pm doca:

@Whooda: I used just as an example, as you can read the same thing with a different disposition on the screen that is not the same thing as just zooing in or out an image file. A mp3 file has layers, as to grasp how it is part of the conversion to digital.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:39pm Bas NL:

Thanks for listening @doca!! I'll go to those blogs; got to find out one day!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:40pm Whooda:

@Andrew The scanner doesn't do that, the software does. Again, just do a simple google search about the BC, then we can discuss it intellegently.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Anyway, guys, keep it gentle. It has been a most entertaining and demanding discussion. A tribute to the radio station that will stay alive for another year. As for the technical thing, I'll ask for your support on anything I write for some time. Gotta go now, but thanks for the conversation!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:42pm Stanley:

@Bas - the track you posted is a belter. I concur with doca that it sounds Congolese. I love it when some music is not mentioned on the internet or known to Shazam.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:42pm Whooda:

@doca OK, I never worked with MP3 files only WAV. files. But I think digital spectum is different than editing layer of image data.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:42pm Andrew Waterloo:

@Whooda, It's immaterial whether it's the scanner or the document creating the layers. It was the scanner + scanner software that generated the digital copy of the birth certificate. I'm not going to do your research for you. Why don't you look up all the snopes and youtube articles that debunk the idea of forgery?
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:45pm Whooda:

@Andrew, your're obsessed with "debunking" me. I've told you I'm not trying to prove anything to you. But I do realize you are in deep denial about what is happening to you by your government.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 5:46pm chris:

RevRabbit the topic started with the suggestion that history can't be trusted when documention is digitized. But that is also true with ink and paper. Forgeries are as old as papyrus paper. The Persians developed paper marbling in the middle ages to combat forgeries of official documents. The technique was secret for miliinia. I taught a small paper marbling summer class at CSU Sacramento.

For posterity i'd like to report that WFMU veteran extraordinaire Doug Schulkind identified my long unknown track in no time.. He even sent a photo of the cover as it even was in his collection. The track was from a 12'' 'La Vie Continue" by Souzy Kessaya from Congo (Zaire back on release in 1985). Many many thanks Doug!!
