You see a blanket on the ground. It's your favorite color, smooth and soft. You can sit on it, or lie on it. It's a flying blanket, and you are the pilot. You are in control. You can fly anywhere you wish, just by thinking about it. You are the pilot.

Hi Dan and all. On my Ipad, when the comments section gets too long, it pushes the " Post a Comment" box off the bottom of the screen and I cant find it again. Any suggestions? Am I doing somethin wrong? Lovin the Mick Turner, BTW

Sorry, P-90, it's a known issue and it happens unpredictably. You can try the WFMU iOS app in the meantime.

@P-90 I have the same problem on an android tablet,

Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 9:16pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Methinks Android browser has decided to copy the iOS browser behavior. Well, there's the Android app while a fix is awaited...
  Mon. 12/30/13 9:18pm P-90:

Thanks for the acknowledgement, @Ken. I'll try the app. Shoulda gotten it by now anyway, but I'm usually commenting from a desktop...

3. Go to this URL in the new Safari window:

Avatar Mon. 12/30/13 9:33pm Dan Bodah:

I am going to get in a fight with a butternut squash over which party we should go to, then force the subway doors open at my station for 15 mins waiting for a friend who never shows up, then swim across the Hackensack River using empty Jaegermeister bottles as flotation devices and fall asleep on the Jersey City mayor's front porch in a bathrobe.
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 9:34pm ottovonbqe:

I was thinking of doing that, but with Unterberg bottles.

  Mon. 12/30/13 9:35pm PB:

DB, I think you're getting a little old for that kind of thing.
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 9:37pm ottovonbqe:

True, but Jersey city is a one-bitter town from what I hear.
  Mon. 12/30/13 9:37pm will:

I was hoping we'd get to hear Frozen Geese tonight.
  Mon. 12/30/13 9:38pm P-90:

OK, Dan, Ken, and all. I'm now a novice wfmu app user. The app screen doesn't rotate from "tall" to "wide". Is there a function for that? Or do I just have to stick with "tall" aspect ratio?
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 9:38pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...what a kewl set...
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 9:43pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

P-90: Which device, which app? Is it the recent version of that app or the years' old version?
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 9:44pm JakeGould:

Hey Dan! Love the show. Perfect for tonight.
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 9:46pm JakeGould:

And as long as we are talking about the app, have a suggestion: There should be an option/setting to set which stream—or any—starts up immediately when the app launches. Sometimes I want to listen to the archives & not the live stream. Would personally love to at least choose the mono stream right away.
Avatar Mon. 12/30/13 9:47pm mayorfrank:

The Daniel Bachman album cover is great!
Avatar Mon. 12/30/13 9:48pm Dan Bodah:

I have the recent Android app on my Galaxy SIII and no, it doesn't rotate -- it only displays in profile.
     Mon. 12/30/13 9:49pm 12539:

This sounds exciting. I hereby resolve to fight more stag-beetles in 2014.
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 9:51pm JakeGould:

Went to a stag Beatles party once. Just a bunch of guys in mop-tops drinking English ale and watching randy loops projected from an 8mm film.
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 9:52pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

OK, I'll pass that along to the folks who manage the Android app, in case they're unaware.
Avatar Mon. 12/30/13 9:52pm mayorfrank:

@thebody The bassist and the drummer and the singer want to rock, but the lead guitarist does not want to rock right now, at this moment.
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 9:55pm ottovonbqe:

Also, the Android app seems to always crash if you try to switch from an archive stream to the live stream.
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 9:57pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@JakeGould & @ottvonbqe: Passed it along!
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 9:58pm JakeGould:

Thank you Kenzo! A mensch!
  Mon. 12/30/13 9:58pm P-90:

I just got the app from the Apple store. Seems to be current, there are recent comments there. Hey, if she doesn't rotate, she doesn't rotate. I just don't see a "profile -to-landscape" feature, wondered if there is one. Just a convenience, because if I have other windows open, they're in the landscape ratio, so when I go to the fmu app, I have to physically turn the Ipad, awkward cuz I've got a case w/ keyboard.
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 9:59pm Droll:

Kenzo, I use that excuse all the time, too: "Uhhh, thanks for asking why the documentation says that's supported, I'm going to have to tell marketing about that!"
  Mon. 12/30/13 10:02pm P-90:

Sure, it counts when a machine does the Legal ID

I think "Dr. George Funkenstein Clinton " was my podiatrist when I was a kid
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 10:13pm pacific standard simon:

Hey gang -- I'm using the Android app on my Kindle, and it doesn't rotate there either, but that's a fairly common thing so I splurged on a app that forces rotation.
  Mon. 12/30/13 10:14pm r i s k y:

Happy New Year Dan!
Thanks for a year of hooj choons mon!
Avatar Mon. 12/30/13 10:16pm Dan Bodah:

Dr George Funkenstein Clinton says your feet are weird, P-90. @RISKY, thx mon
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 10:18pm pacific standard simon:

It's called Ultimate Rotation Control.
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 10:20pm pacific standard simon:

I'm picking up plagiarist vibrations.
  Mon. 12/30/13 10:20pm Robert:

That 3 note pizzicotta is a cute allusion to "Good Vibrations".
  Mon. 12/30/13 10:21pm PB:

It's giving me excitations.
  Mon. 12/30/13 10:21pm P-90:

@PacStanSim: Waddya mean, you "splurged" on an app that FORCES rotation? Your kidding, right? Or did you mean you "splooged" on an app? You guys always get me so confused...
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 10:22pm Droll:

pss, Substantial Similarity? en.wikipedia.org...
  Mon. 12/30/13 10:23pm Robert:

I see PS Simon noticed it the same time I did, but I prefer to think of it as a gag rather than plagiarism. Frequencies...vibrations, get it?
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 10:23pm pacific standard simon:

The app claims it's "free" but it turns out that you have to give them $1.99 or some such amount to use it for more than a week.
  Mon. 12/30/13 10:24pm PB:

It's an homage rather than a gag, I would guess.
Avatar Mon. 12/30/13 10:24pm Dan Bodah:

Yeah, that whole HNIA record is an undernoticed masterpiece...every song coopts and repurposes elements of over 60s pop hits in similarly brilliant ways. Thus the title Stars on ESP...
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 10:25pm fleep:

With Ultimate Rotation Control, you have the power to realign planetary orbits and tweak entire star systems. $1.99 is a bargain.
  Mon. 12/30/13 10:27pm Robert:

One of the clues I noticed in the TV serial "Lost" was a similar musical gag or homage: Their main theme to that of "Dept. S". But I didn't get it until long after I'd put those elements together.
  Mon. 12/30/13 10:27pm P-90:

OMG there is an "ultimate rotation control" app that "forces the rotation control to override app-specific settings." Only for android though. @Simon Q: how expensive was it, that it counted as a "splurge"?
  Mon. 12/30/13 10:30pm Robert:

Previously I'd noticed a musical similarity between "Lost" and "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World", which I later concluded was not intended, although they did make a couple of other allusions to that movie, including a hilarious opening shot gag where the camera pans down past a big "W" of palm trees to two characters digging underneath it.
     Mon. 12/30/13 10:30pm 12539:

Sometimes this show is beautifully weird, and other times it's weirdly beautiful.
  Mon. 12/30/13 10:31pm P-90:

@Simon: didn't see youpr cooments above about the cost. If there was a version for Apple devices, they could bundle it with the wfmu app.
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 10:31pm JakeGould:

Tonight was really chill. I really liked the show tonight. Thanks.
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 10:31pm Droll:

I've left bigger tips on beer than most apps cost. At least the bartender also got a paycheck, the app author is working only for tips.
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 10:32pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

It's a good idea. The Ultimate Rotation Control people should include the WFMU app with every purchase.
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 10:32pm pacific standard simon:

Paying anything at all for an app counts as a splurge for me, since so few are worth more than "free".
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 10:34pm pacific standard simon:

The WFMU app, oddly, is one that I would pay for (maybe I did, if you count my contributions throughout the year).
  Mon. 12/30/13 10:35pm P-90:

@Ken: haha!
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 10:35pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I keep a running annual list of everything I've enjoyed that year and haven't paid the original creator for (software, music, books, wonderfulness, etc.), and I have a session of paying up. (...and bypassing middlemen wherever possible.)

These days, the middlemen are getting fatter than ever but the folks actually making things are expected to work for free.
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 10:38pm pacific standard simon:

That's a fine scheme, Ken -- worth adopting, but do I have to pay you for the idea?

Which reminds me, I need to send a donation to Down Them All.
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 10:39pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

No, I'm not middlemanning it! God knows there are enough online services just to move money from here to there but take a cut.
  Mon. 12/30/13 10:44pm P-90:

@Ken: seriously, one could argue that our society is under an enormous amount of stress because of this empowerment of middlemen, to the exclusion of all other priorities. What are "too big to fail" bankers and legislation-writing lobbyists but glorified middlemen, anyway? Huh?
@Everyone: Your comments on this comment are free until midnight, $1.99/mo thereafter
Avatar    Mon. 12/30/13 10:46pm pacific standard simon:

Kenzo, Are you still using the FMU website and app to do Bitcoin mining on listener's computers? That was a genius fundraising maneuver.
  Mon. 12/30/13 11:23pm P-90:

OK, if I stand up and bend to the side from the waist like Jack Lalane, I can read the fmu app without having to turn the whole furshlugginer keyboard-case-IPad assembly on its side. That 's what engineers call a "workaround"
