|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:12pm
Clay:
I find that there are many conservatives who attend sporting events at Madison Square Garden. A good counterpoint to my usual left-heavy shows. By the way. I meant to attend an Occupy event on Wednesday, but I was unable to.

Come up to VT and spend some time other than the ski area in Stowe. I will show you a real picture of America through a Vermont view that will blow your mind.
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:14pm
Clay:
Thanks Moose! @ Mark ... I bought my Ovation in Putney, VT. It has a massive crack. Ha! That sounded filthy.

dale:
not many watering holes there matt. best to pick up a six at the gas station and go home.
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:17pm
G:
@Matt: Since the 70s at least, it's been a longstanding poli-sci distinction to separate socially conservative/liberal from economically conservative/liberal. Moderate Republicans are often fiscally conservative and socially liberal (in contrast to evangelicals who are both economically and socially conservative). The interviewee meant Romney is fiscally conservative and "socially" liberal (not "sociologically"). He was just bungling the poli-sci terminology he's seen used in articles and columns in places like nationalreview.com.
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:17pm

into the corner, matt. such punnery must be punished.

Thu. 3/8/12 6:20pm
Mark T in VT:
VT is always shown as liberal in the media. What does not get reported is that liberal majority is about just over 60 percent. The rest are conservative. But Vermont conservative. I bet Clay would have quite the time if he did some shows in VT.
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:20pm

It's good, Dave, but sad.

Sorry I couldn't lavish the production on the second-half of the show. I ran short of time post-marathon. Sounds kind of muddy. Need a little analog upgrade. New tapes. New micro-cassette. It'll happen. Stay tuned. More Occupy, too.

|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:42pm
Clay:
You got that right, M! | |
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:42pm
dale:
but seriously, why is the cradle of civilization so effed up?
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:44pm
Clay:
Religion (poorly applied) seems to twist people up. Greed gets us every time. We need more love.
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:44pm
Matt from Springfield:
Because the cradle of civilization has been acting like children for the past couple centuries.
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:44pm
G:
Israel has been slowing Iran down. Computer stuff, assassination. Obama just recently told them don't do anything *military* till after the election. If Iran gets even one viable nuclear weapon, both militarily and politically things are not going to go a way that anyone here will be happy with. As soon as they use it (which they will as soon as they can), various countries are going to react. We in the US can't change that, even if we don't do anything military at all.
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:46pm
kata:
Leon Penetta has admitted that there is no evidence Iran is building a nuclear weapon.
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:47pm
Matt from Springfield:
@G: And that's the problem--do nothing and we still end up affected. I'm so hoping, perhaps wishfully, the "Green Revolution"/"Iran Spring" takes out the leadership before any attack--the people pretty much don't go for the theocracy and Ahmadinejad, but they'll unite against an outside aggressor, leading to deep, lasting violence.
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:48pm
dale:
nice clothes make the man!
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:48pm
G:
It's geography, dale. Because of the Indian Ocean and the Medit. Sea, that area is a crossroads between Asia, Europe, and Africa, and people and ideas are always moving in and through there, historically, and churning around. Think about all the changes in countries and empires there in ancient times (Egypt, Sumer, Bablyon, Israel, Persia, etc etc). It never stayed the same for long.
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:48pm
jk:
congratulations on a successful fundraiser, Clay!
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:49pm
dale:
the area is too small - use a nuke against a neighbor and mess up your own environment.
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:49pm
Clay:
Jeez, Dale, and me in my dad jeans and Led Zep t-shirt .... @JK Thanks!!!! It was so fun. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT (Yes, I yelled)

Matt from Springfield:
This Sunday, full page ad in the WaPo: Larry Flynt is offering "up to 1 million dollars" for verified information on congressmen, senators or senior govt officials on their infidelity, sex abuse or corruption. SOMEONE in DC is going to tell, and these people will get paranoid about their staffs and underlings. The gauntlet is thrown! He may be kinda gross, but kudos to Larry on this!
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:51pm
G:
@Matt: We had a shot at helping an Iran uprising a couple of years ago, and we didn't encourage it, because we didn't want to look interventionist and anti-Islamic. The Tehran authorities arrested everyione and crushed it. Was that a bad call on our part?
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:51pm
Fredericks:
Iran doesn't need a nuke to nuke Israel. Only a missile to hit one of Israel's reactors. They could but haven't yet.
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:52pm
Clay:
Well. look what the cat drug in. Hey Fredericks!
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:52pm
frances:
I love it when you play mellow songs like this "Cecil"
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:52pm
Matt from Springfield:
@Fredericks: Yes, that's another problem even right now: Iran could destroy Israel right now with just their conventional weapons.
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:54pm
Clay:
Keep jabbering y'all. I just want to say thanks again for Marathon. I hope you have great weekends. Until next time ... take care and ... always remember! Clay - 99
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:54pm
G:
Iran's version of Shia theology says the hidden Imam will return to put things right Islamically when the situation has gotten extreme enough. They think nuking Israel will do it. Israel's already slowed them down by a few years with computer hacking and assassination of nuclear scientists. But slowing down is not the same as stopping permanently.
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:54pm
Fredericks:
Hey there! Clay, you were very correct on Religion being misapplied.
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:54pm

Fredericks:
I'll be it touch soon. Night, Bhurd and supporters.
|
Thu. 3/8/12 6:57pm
Matt from Springfield:
That's the problem with the pervasive "American Dream", and "Manifest Destiny" before that: other former colonies like Canada, Australia and NZ seem to "keep it simple" much better than Americans try to.

Another great hour Clay!!! From beginning to end. Also loved the interview from the guy who was working at the Ren Faire in PA. That is in Lebanon County about 30 minutes from me, give or take. Awesome place. Quick question, can you please tell me if I can still maybe get the Clay Classics CD or even the ones you had in prior years? Thanks in advance. Always remembering, -- Matt
