You see a blanket on the ground. It's your favorite color, smooth and soft. You can sit on it, or lie on it. It's a flying blanket, and you are the pilot. You are in control. You can fly anywhere you wish, just by thinking about it. You are the pilot.

Listener comments!

Mon. 1/16/12 9:08pm Richard from Venezuela:

Good evening Dan.
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:09pm PB:

I presume that is Lou Reed singing but it sure doesn't sound like him. Weird.
Avatar Mon. 1/16/12 9:11pm Bodah, DJ:

@PB, yes, it's Lou. Don't you recognize this voice of his from the Loutallica album Lulu? Kidding... Yeah, these demos are from the 5CD box set Peel Slowly & See.
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:11pm nina:

evenin' dan!
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:12pm rst:

shitty old mic, maybe
and a young(er) voice
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:13pm PB:

DB, I haven't heard that Lou/Metallica album but heard it is awful. What is Lou thinking. I hate Metallica.
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:13pm Kenzo:

Raw music like this is always the best
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:13pm dave:

say what you want about loutallica, but you've gotta like living in a universe where the same guy can produce 'heroin', 'metal machine music', and 'lulu'.
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:15pm PB:

@kenzo, I agree. Some of these stripped down demos are amazing. George Harrison's demo of While My Guitar Gently Weeps is great.
Avatar Mon. 1/16/12 9:15pm Bodah, DJ:

I am glad they made the Loutallica album. It makes me feel like I am actually an American.
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:16pm Destroit:

Hello everybody, Wcbn gave you, DB, some love this weekend with contributing to their Sun Ra show. hope yer feet are feelin' better.
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:16pm Kenzo:

Heard "Revolution Take...Your Knickers Off" for the first time recently. Back when Revolution 1 and 9 were part of the same song.
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:17pm dave:

inexplicable genre-mashing collabos: they're what made this country great.
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:20pm Destroit:

I like Lou reed, and mettalica, but the marriage of the 2 was an absolute trainwreck.
Avatar Mon. 1/16/12 9:21pm Bodah, DJ:

@Destroit -- thanks for the news! The gout has subsided to a dim roar, thanks.
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:23pm Destroit:

Glad to hear, we need you on your feet.
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:25pm PB:

I just read a few weeks ago in either Uncut or Mojo that the guy who wrote Wild Thing (Chip Taylor?) is the actor Jon Voight's brother.
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:28pm G:

wikipedia on Chip Tayor, who indeed wrote of Wild Thing:

"He is the brother of actor Jon Voight and geologist Barry Voight. He is the uncle of actress Angelina Jolie and actor James Haven."
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:30pm G:

...wrote Wild Thing.

was that snafu the result too much hasty editing? or not enough hasty editing?
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:33pm G:

cam out to much dismay and weirded-out concern!
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:35pm PB:

Speaking of Accu-weather it is snowing here in Westchester.
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:37pm Thierry:

I believe Brian Brain was Martin Atkins' band. M.A. drummed for Public Image.
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:38pm Thierry:

Public Image ... Limited (PIL)
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:38pm Destroit:

Brian drain. Nice.
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:41pm Destroit:

I think Adkins also worked with steve stoll out of Chicago, crazy good electronic stuff
Avatar Mon. 1/16/12 9:44pm Bodah, DJ:

I don't think Brian Drain is Brian Brain or a M.A. related project. But the name is basically ungoogleable because (1) google insists on changing the search terms to "Brain Drain" and, if you get past that, (2) there are actually a bunch of Brian Drains out there!
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:47pm Tareq:

No kidding. Just spent 5 minutes googling Brian Drain. Any hints how to find his stuff?
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:48pm rst:

Hm. Interesting.
The google-cookie remembers the second choice search I notice
Avatar Mon. 1/16/12 9:48pm Bodah, DJ:

@Tareq, sorry, I'll have to wait till I'm not in the middle of a show to employ my google-fu and crack the code! Let me know if you get anywhere.
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:55pm Fred:

yea seriously, that song at around 9:38pm or so, was awesome, was it brian drain? i cant find it.
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:55pm Destroit:

Good lord. Future pubah disco.
  Mon. 1/16/12 9:58pm damien:

Greeting, Bodah, DJ. Please play some Josef Van Wisum! (I can never spell that guy's name!)
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:02pm damien:

Or, McCoy Tyner's "Message From The Nile" (Extensions, 1970), aka, the Total Shiznizit!..........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh Oh Lord, Jesus!
Mon. 1/16/12 10:05pm ranjit (not charanjit):

He was a lineman for the county!
http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/mycentraljersey/obituary.aspx?n=brian-r-drain&pid=151472122
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:06pm rst:

I would like a woman's name analogous to Brian Drain.
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:11pm Tareq:

All I've found is a txt file from some MIT ftp mirror site (I don't know what I just typed) that seems to be a copyright record. Apparently Brian Drain's real name is Brian Corwin, d/b/a White Wolf Music, and the copyright date for Strafe on the Lane is 1984...
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:12pm damien:

To rst: Dianne Sewaire?
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:13pm bruceleh:

Peckish?
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:13pm rst:

hey, good one.
Mon. 1/16/12 10:14pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Noooo, Dan, noooooo!!!
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:14pm hotep:

One nice thing about working late in Western Europe is hearing this show live :).

VENEZUELAN BEAVER CHEESE!!!!!!
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:16pm damien:

I would like to recommend the Cabot Cellars at Jasper Hill Clothbound!
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:16pm Ignore Function:

Fun show!
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:17pm bruceleh:

  Mon. 1/16/12 10:17pm Central Brooklyn:

Kraft American Singles. Never saw the inside of a cow!
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:17pm rst:

"Joan Cheese"
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:19pm Fred:

Umm...yea so that song that goes 'lighter than air', etc. is brian drain right?
Mon. 1/16/12 10:19pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Damien, I second your recommendation. Cabot Clothbound Cheddar aged at Jasper Hill is one of the best cheeses made in the USA, and even gives Montgomery Cheddar (the best cheddar in the world, IMHO) a run for its money.
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:21pm damien:

Don't Fah-Huck with VT!

Nevertheless, this commie pinko shit had better be followed by some ROCK AND ROLL! I want MC5! I want Black Flag! I want a sonic apocalypse!!!
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:22pm ranjit:

Bellavitano is really yummy (available at Union Market in Park Slope)
Avatar Mon. 1/16/12 10:23pm Bodah, DJ:

@Fred, I think so -- hard to remember by now. I recommend the archive - it'll be up within an hour after the show is over and you can jump right to that portion of the archive by clicking the link next to the Brian Drain song. I think that's the one though.
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:23pm PB:

Make Damien happy DB and Kick Out the Jams.
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:25pm damien:

High Time. Gotta Keep Movin'
Mon. 1/16/12 10:26pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Damien, right on. Vermont is THE BEST, which is why I'm moving back there reallllly soon. Cheese!
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:28pm Kevin:

Dan,
I enjoyed the show of awesome tapes from Africa a couple weeks back.
I forwarded a link of the blog and that show to a friend, roger Peet, who remembered you from his college experiences.
Funny world
Thanks for the musical education every time I listen
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:30pm damien:

Wendy, Bless Your Cheesy Soul. Greetings from Troy, Nu Yawk.
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:33pm M, UK:

Sounding cracking, hearing those tapes, though i might have to call it a night soon, its 3:33 here.
Mon. 1/16/12 10:34pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Thank you, Damien! I have driven through your fair city many a time, when I've opted for the Thruway trip b/w Vermont and NYC/NJ, rather than the I-91 trip. The Friendly's on Rt 7 has been a popular stop for about 20 years now. Greetings back atcha from Jerrrrsey City.
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:36pm Mugsy:

and now, the larch. the larch.
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:36pm slugluv1313:

  Mon. 1/16/12 10:39pm slugluv1313:

  Mon. 1/16/12 10:45pm G:

"Rock out!" ---> STONE OUT.
Avatar Mon. 1/16/12 10:46pm Bodah, DJ:

@Slugluv, yep. Your people made that awesomeness. @Damien, ooooh, a dare! I will double that dare. @Mugsy, thanks for the ongoing educational filmstrip!
  Mon. 1/16/12 10:46pm Mugsy:

  Mon. 1/16/12 11:35pm 12539:

Avatar Mon. 1/16/12 11:37pm Bodah, DJ:

@12539, I didn't know you were along for this flight, thanks for checking in.
Avatar Mon. 1/16/12 11:38pm Bodah, DJ:

I just learned it is a myth that rubber soled shoes protect you from electricity.
  Mon. 1/16/12 11:43pm G:

Life is a long series of disappointments.
  Mon. 1/16/12 11:43pm damien:

I know for a fact that "Alicia Renee" is a denizen of the Creedmoor Nuthouse! She's a nutter, Bodah! If she requests "The Pussycat Dolls", I VERY MUCH suggest that you play SAID-such Band, or she might very well Valerie-Solanas your ass! (I jest! I jest!)
  Mon. 1/16/12 11:45pm m:

this kinda reminds me of the fiction of Stanley Elkin... always a good thing
  Mon. 1/16/12 11:48pm Alicia Renee:
