Ha, ami, if that was recent, I didn't hear anything. But NYPD boats were on *go* on Friday afternoon. I assumed they had a bridge-crossing protest to loom at since there was nothing coming over the Coast Guard radio about any PIW (person in the water).

@HH: I invited a friend of mine, who is an avid cyclist but not a paddler, to go out with me on my kayak this weekend. We paddled a bit down the Chicago River, but he was ready to turn back long before I was - his cycle-enthusiasm did not immediately translate into kayak-enthusiasm, and he felt a bit awkward in the boat. So we only went about a mile and a half (toward downtown) before turning back. Pretty uneventful trip but we saw some cute baby ducks and a HUGE barge. Hats off to my friend for his willingness to try something new on a moment's notice, but I'm still looking for a paddling partner (I don't imagine he'll want to do it again).
