Avatar 7:05pm Linda Lee:

this piece reminds me of many, many past afternoons!
Avatar 7:05pm Linda Lee:

long past!
Avatar 7:05pm northguineahills:

I thought this was Jesse Kaminsky's Neighbor's Noise (GTDS stream)
Avatar 7:07pm Linda Lee:

how is it that kids are singing the same tunes as in the 1960s?
Avatar 7:07pm Linda Lee:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm Richard S:

I have no idea what I'm listening to.
Avatar 7:09pm northguineahills:

@Linda Lee: we sang the same tunes (when I was that age) in the 80s.....
Avatar 7:10pm Linda Lee:

pretty wild, no? only the words change .
Avatar 7:10pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Here's the thing about playing Free:
You damn well better know how to Listen to each other.
Avatar 7:11pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

(They do!)
Avatar 7:12pm Linda Lee:

& that's why we *need* interactive play with other kids!
Avatar 7:13pm Linda Lee:

we need each other to become ourselves.

Hi Vocal Fried ones: Turtle Dreams is one of my faves!
Avatar 7:15pm Dan Bodah:

Good evening Fryers! Welcome to the bus ride!
Avatar 7:16pm Dan Bodah:

@Linda: books.google.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm unpopularfred:

Imagine a bus full of third graders singing like this.
Avatar 7:17pm Dan Bodah:

That might sound like one of Phil Minton's Feral Choirs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm melinda:

Digging the Monk
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm unpopularfred:

...not that there isn't some resemblance to these melodies
Avatar 7:19pm northguineahills:

Joelle Leadndre then Meredith Monk!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm listener 126464:

the school bus audio was great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm Webhamster Henry:

Over on Scott W's playlist tonight, I was pointing to Tony Schwartz's recordings (available from Smithsonian Folkways), and I urge people who liked the bus recording to check them out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm common:

this is a good 'un
Avatar 7:29pm northguineahills:

Webhamster Henry: You can't make me!

/(you made me)
Avatar 7:31pm northguineahills:

I have at least one Folkways 10" of children's songs. Can't tell you who's behind it as I'm still at work. (I buy anything Folkways related on site).
Avatar 7:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

On Drummer's stream - Explorer's Room often - explored Exotica :
...interesting to think of it as projection of the Suburban mind
...& precursor to Psychedelia! - esp. in Album format...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm Webhamster Henry:

ngh, it is indeed Tony Schwartz!
Avatar 7:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Man - Native American...another kind of Blues - an arrow to the heart...
  7:33pm JakeGould:

I remember someone in the 1990s—or early 200s?—on WFMU who would record audio of walking through Coney Island on a crowded summer day. Now THAT is a memory.
  7:34pm Mark G:

You should have been at the "Peter Stampfel and Friends" gig yesterday afternoon at the Sidewalk. Not only is Stampfel and an incredibly loopy and creative vocalist in his own right, but yesterday he did a set (a first for them both) with Shelly Hirsch. The way they played off of each other vocally was like the wackiest classic 1940's cartoon music/soundtrack ever! -Simply astounding
Avatar 7:34pm Linda Lee:

Thanks for the link Dan! that one looks juicy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm Webhamster Henry:

Yep, Peter Stampfel and Shelley Hirsch and others have a new record coming out soon. Tracks from their previous one has been played on this very show.
Avatar 7:35pm Dan Bodah:

@JakeGould, not sure who that was but it could have been Monica Lynch? She has used a lot of great recordings of the city on her shows over the years. Also if people are interested in that kind of thing, I used to air recordings I made of subway musicians on my old show Airborne Event back in the early 2000s.
Avatar 7:35pm northguineahills:

@Jake: Then there is Meghan's Underwater Theme Park on GTDS stream that uses Coney Island recordings as her bed music.
  7:36pm JakeGould:

@NGH and @Dan I am thinking it’s more of a Meghan thing. But like I said, this was years ago. Possibly like 1993 or 1994?
Avatar 7:36pm northguineahills:

What the Rabbit said....
Avatar 7:37pm Dan Bodah:

Ah, there's a new Stampfel/Hirsch set of recordings coming?! Yay!!
Avatar 7:37pm Linda Lee:

sorry to be this way, but why does Lola Kiepja remind me of Buddy Hackett?
Avatar 7:37pm Dan Bodah:

@Marc G, glad you saw that show -- wish I could've
Avatar 7:38pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...if God can be GeorgeBurns...
Avatar 7:39pm Linda Lee:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm Webhamster Henry:

You can't beat the Tierra Del Fuegans for weirdness :
Avatar 7:41pm Linda Lee:

Avatar 7:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Gawd willin' & the Cree don't...too late!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm Webhamster Henry:

Avatar 7:42pm Linda Lee:

Avatar 7:42pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 7:42pm Dan Bodah:

Avatar 7:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The Schizzle.
Avatar 7:44pm northguineahills:

Then there is the Lomax collections of childrens songs from everywhere. I could probably do a three hour children's songs just based on my vinyl. (I already made a digital playlist for a friend of mine for his wife's preschool charity a while back)
Avatar 7:44pm Linda Lee:

got to see this. seeking ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm Richard S:

The Mighty Mouse chant was done by the Black Lodge Singers. Check the Archives; they were played a lot on Greasy Kid Stuff back in the day.
Avatar 7:45pm Linda Lee:

english clearly doesn't belong where it is though. :-D

Avatar 7:58pm Linda Lee:

the farther we get from the forest in song, the less our songs say, methinks.
