Any turkeys still alive the day after Thanksgiving have earned the right to go wherever they want.
  3:15pm Brendan:

Hi folks top of the mid afternoon to you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Adrian in London:

Hi Sheila and Boom-Boomers. This Soul Surfers track is good; has a touch of Khruangbin about it, which is a good thing, obviously.
Avatar 3:17pm djsheilab:

@The Contessa Yay! @Linda Lee + @TOPT This version of "Shakin' All Over" is hands down the best, me thinks.
Avatar 3:18pm βrian:

Apparently our garden wasn't good enough for him, so he sauntered off.
  3:19pm P-90:

Happy Black Friday, Sheila! You always have the throttle open wide right from the starting line, don't you?
Avatar 3:20pm Baumer!:

The only turkeys I see wandering around here are jive turkeys.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Adrian in London:

@ Brian I'm imagining a turkey 'sauntering'. Was it wearing a monocle and a top hat? Please say yes.
  3:22pm Linda Lee:

@djsheilab, agreed! & may i say, 'girls with guitars' has got to be the sexiest album cover ever.
Avatar 3:24pm βrian:

no turkeys around up here on the mountaintop lately.. though they're usually everywhere! the wild ones, that is. the smart ones. must be the gun hunters' target practice for the season coming up .. so noisy the animals get wise.

Sunny Friday for me!

@Blckdgrd Very difficult to pick a muses track. "Graffiti" + "Hate My Way" were other contenders...

I saw the picture of the album cover saying "Shampoo Trouble", and I'm thinking a shipment of leaky bottles.

@Jake, i felt sad for Sylvia. i'm sad for Joya too.

Avatar 3:54pm Baumer!:

Loving this Sachiko Nishida track. Wow.
  4:01pm JakeGould:

The Sachiko Nishida sleeve is indeed gorgeous.
  4:04pm Linda Lee:

@Baumer1, that *was* really lovely. so was the Alis Lesley .. the sweeter Wanda Jackson.
i'm confused .. is the record cover the sleeve now? the sleeve used to be the paper record holder inside the cover, no?
  4:04pm JakeGould:

The cover is quite nice: www.discogs.com...

Avatar 4:13pm The Contessa:

As a holiday job at school I worked at Garrod & Lofthouse printers and had to mark up the way the album covers would be printed. Thinking now that a lot of covers probably got printed wrong that summer! Arf!

Oh WOW, it's Baroque Hoedown! Used to be the soundtrack for the Main Street Electical Parade at Disneyland for many years

Avatar 4:30pm djsheilab:

  4:30pm Linda Lee:

gotta tell you SheilaB .. SBB is quick becoming one of my most favorite fmu shows ever! & that's a long time.
  4:34pm Linda Lee:

** yay! ***
Avatar 4:35pm The Contessa:

I definitely heard a bit of Diana Ross in that Carrolls' track
  4:35pm Listener Robert:

It amazes me that DJs can do that kind of censorship on the fly. I would have to run the audio a few times to be able to time the cutouts that well.
Avatar 4:37pm The Contessa:

AHHHH! Wild Tales!! Amazing!

  4:40pm Linda Lee:

i cannot wait til i'm done with dial-up & i can access film online!
hello 21st Century!
  4:40pm Listener Robert:

I don't even understand how DJs can dump with delay w/o losing several seconds of surrounding audio. Unless there's already an instructional video on that somewhere, I'd like for some day a WFMU DJ to demonstrate that audio-visually.

I was very impressed a few months ago when Pat Byrne streamed a segment on studio-cam & I learned how radio DJing is done seamlessly w 2 turntables, clamps on discs, cueing them up, & engaging a clutch on a turntable. I like learning stuff like that that's not so obvious.
  4:44pm Linda Lee:

that Dee Edwards side was gorgeous. & doesn't she look fly!
Avatar 4:46pm The Contessa:

@Linda Lee, I was admiring her look myself
Avatar 4:48pm The Contessa:

Shirley Abicair!!!!
  4:48pm Linda Lee:

is that a jumpsuit?
Avatar 4:49pm djsheilab:

@Listener Robert, I just mark the times where there is a curse and just pull down the level on the track during the curse and then bring it back up immediately. So I haven't had to use the dump button.
Avatar 4:49pm The Contessa:

Oh yeah, the zither!
Avatar 4:51pm The Contessa:

@Linda Lee I'd say it's a jumpsuit

Dana Gillespie! Love her
  5:03pm Linda Lee:

when i was a kid in the 60s .. listening to the radio was magical. a revelation every day. i feel the same way now.
  5:03pm Listener Robert:

Thanks for the explanation, djsheilab, but I'm still impressed that you can be so vigilant as to press some "mark" button, then subtract a little from the time while watching a readout of some kind that says when that time is coming.
Avatar 5:03pm famous original sugarwolf:

That Dana Gillespie outfit would not be out of place at a Renaissance Festival...

Avatar 5:12pm djsheilab:

@fudge I've never been a call screener. I've never picked up the phone at WFMU actually.
  5:14pm P-90:

@Sheila: I am SO thankful for that groovy shout-out! And I've been thankful for SBB since the very first show. And I'm sure Guido will be thankful you pronounced his name perfectly!
  5:14pm Linda Lee:

gratitude is one of life's finer things!
i'm grateful for: music,

Sheilab, I'm here! Thanks for the shoutout! Wanted to say earlier that Shirly Abacair put kind of a Brecht/Weil spin on that goffin king songx. @Sheila My pleasure. So glad you loved it. More to come from them, just as good.
  5:27pm Bob:

So many great Blossom Dearie records, I keep discovering more, and can't understand why I never listened to her before. Maybe because her name was too obvious, like it was almost computer-designed to appeal to me.
Avatar 5:27pm Baumer!:

Wow. I think this might be the first thing Gwen Stefani has ever done that I actually like. I'm super impressed by this track. Had no idea it was her.

I'm grateful for the relatively polite crowds in SoHo this post-Thanksgiving Friday. So few a-holes and d-bags out today! Nice person holiday!
  5:37pm JakeGould:

Heterosexual white make chiming in here: I really, really unashamedly and conspicuously line Gwen Stefani's solo work. "Now That You Got It" from "Sweet Escape" is great.
Avatar 5:43pm statoj:

Wow. This Cookies song is heavy
Some serious affirmation of doing it "her way." With a minimum of euphemism.
Avatar 5:43pm Baumer!:

I was never a fan of No Doubt, so I never really gave her solo stuff a chance at all, especially since it felt a little too... i guess disingenuous is the word I am looking for.
  5:45pm Bob:

Oh my goodness, I love this song! Can't find a UK copy for love nor money.
Avatar 5:46pm djsheilab:

@Bob I think there's a US copy on Discogs...I think!
Avatar 5:48pm Baumer!:

I just looked at the time. I can't believe its almost the end of the show. Time flies when you're listening to an amazing set
Avatar 5:49pm djsheilab:

The chorus of this Judy and Mary song makes me feel as if everything's gonna be alright : )
  5:49pm Bob:

Thanks! I'm just being a label snob, you know how it is... all my Matt Monro 45s are UK pressings. Softly As I Leave You would've onto fitted your heartbreaker shows... SO sad!
