@djsheilab: Yay! A Ruth Miller song! (Yes, I'm trying to make Ruth Miller happen.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Gaylord Fields:

I mean HELEN Miller!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm listener james from westwood:

@Sheila, that article on collecting records you linked to last week was excellent; thanks for sharing it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Gaylord Fields:

It's so easy to get old lady names mixed up.
  3:15pm JakeGould:

Whoa… Sweet Ozzy transition!
Avatar 3:15pm statoj:

Sheila's show is the culmination of a kinda very 60's week. I made the pilgrimage last Sunday to the Woodstock Museum in Bethel NY in honor of my birthday . Awesome to hear these great sounds in the show today. XX
Avatar 3:16pm djsheilab:

Yeahhh! Thanks for noticing @JakeGould. I was excited about that one : )
Avatar 3:17pm djsheilab:

@Gaylord Fields Old lady names! Hehe...! Everything Helen Miller touched was gold. Very under-rated Brill Building writer.

Kicking off my three days with Sheila! And hi Gaylord! (tracy from pier platters! xoxo)

This was around the time Ozzy was in the hospital for something... I still remember this girl in my class who was OBSESSED with him, wearing her "Bark At The Moon" tshirt and saying, "If Ozzy dies, I'll cry." That is my Ozzy memory.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Gaylord Fields:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm listener james from westwood:

Oh hell yess to this Oxford Drama cut.
  3:31pm original famous sugarwolf:

Now that yeah yeah yeah is out in paperback, I need to get it.
  3:32pm P-90:

Sheila, you ARE "a DJ from the 60's", kinda...!
  3:33pm Lightning's Girl:

Gaylord, I am so grateful to WFMU for all the good eggs I have been introduced to over the years
  3:35pm P-90:

Always interesting how songwrters whose first language isn't English will find a particular poetic feeling in an English word like "preserve" that a native speaking lyricist might not.
Avatar 3:37pm Baumer!:

I just had to go buy that Oxford Drama album based on that track @djsheilab. This seems to be becoming a weekly occurrence. You might have the most dangerous show on WFMU, and I dig it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm timurf:

ooh la la, clothilde!
Avatar 3:38pm statoj:

"Bad and crazy song"? Did I get that right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm listener james from westwood:

@original famous sugarwolf: Too bad you don't have a birthday or anything like that coming up.
  3:42pm JakeGould:

This show is so great. So many nice ins/outs between genres and styles that are tangentially related. Kudos!
Avatar 3:43pm djsheilab:

@Baumer! Thank you for making my day. That I might have the most dangerous show on WFMU is a HUGE compliment. I am delighted!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm timurf:

now what we really need is a song where Ozzy or Twisted Sister sings in French or Japanese
  3:45pm marc15:

"Oh là là," interestingly, means something like "Oh no" and usually indicates surprise and disappointment.

There you go.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Aharon:

How great was that Midori?

Hmmm...this IBC isn't bad either.
  3:47pm Dave:

Is this The Cure? Anyone hear The Trees?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Careful about calling something dangerous these days. Don't want the Department of Homeland Security to come calling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm timurf:

@ βrian; maybe thats what i meant... ; )
  3:50pm JakeGould:

@KenFromHydePark: Homeland Security just saved us from hundreds of illegally imported tamales. Never forget! www.fox32chicago.com...
  3:53pm JakeGould:

Priscilla Paris really sounds like a deluded ditz in that track. No disrespect to her vocal talents, but those lyrics… It’s like your texting under the table for a friend to rescue you if she were to talk to you like that in the real world.
Avatar 3:57pm statoj:

That was the female line to take in the 60s ( unless you really had power in the studio, and then if you were Yoko Ono it started WWIII.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Gaylord Fields:

@djsaheilab: And when you're not sending me directly to Discogs, you're sending me into the neglected corners of my own record collection to unearth cuts like that Cyrkle song.
Avatar 4:00pm Baumer!:

thanks for the shout out! Glad i made your day @djsheilab!
  4:04pm majorwaxbuildup:

Really enjoying the show. Romance Watson is a man also known as Len Watson. His version of "Where Does That Leave Me" is a huge want of mine. Gene Stridel has many great records, too.
  4:04pm stacykakes:

Re: Priscilla Paris I was just thinking that was one of my favorite tracks by her. Her voice suits the emotion of the song.
Avatar 4:06pm Lightning's Girl:

Eliot Sumner has a new record coming in 2016 and the singles so far are pretty darn good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm listener james from westwood:

Oof, utterly horrifying re: the flood. Almost lost a car that way. Fullest sympathies to Todd and Cheryl.
Avatar 4:11pm statoj:

Priscilla's look was the the "it" look in the 60. Blond bangs and heavy eye shadow. I am flashing back to the Oh de London commercials they ran during the Monkee's TV show.
  4:11pm LOUDER !!!:

MBV <3 <3 <3 :D
Avatar 4:12pm djsheilab:

Ha! @Louder!!! I just saw that and actually turned it up when I saw the words LOUDER!!!

Did the Exciters do "Tell Him"? I recognize their vibe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm doctorjazz:

Fun show, haven't caught it before, glad I checked it out.

  4:17pm LOUDER !!!:

haha :-) your program is great, it's my first time listening to WFMU. love from Europe!
  4:17pm JakeGould:

Okay! Okay! Priscilla Paris is a fine lady I would not pull an Irish exit on.
  4:17pm original famous sugarwolf:

Avatar 4:17pm statoj:

Stevie! Perfect! Sheila, your show is like a wine tasting for the ears and the heart!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm CHRIStafariRI:

I was a little disappointed to learn that that was not a shout-out to the band The Velvet Underground
Avatar 4:19pm djsheilab:

Glad we all put you in your place @JakeGould : ) @Sugarwolf An Ann-Margret gem, right?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm doctorjazz:

Nice to hear Fleetwood Mac, are they do for reevaluation, a return of "cool factor"?
  4:20pm SeanG:

Sheila, was Soulelujah in Boston a good time? I was planning to go but fell asleep!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Gaylord Fields:

  4:25pm lloyd michigan:

Brian Hyland did IBTWTPDB
Avatar 4:27pm statoj:

Thank you Lloyd- It was indeed a guy!
Avatar 4:28pm djsheilab:

@SeanG Soulelujah was IMMENSE! Massive crowd + lotsa high-fives for the DJ!
  4:28pm lloyd michigan:

You're welcome stat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm doctorjazz:

My impression is, once you get to megasuperduperstardome (unless you are the Beatles, Stone, a few other exceptions), there is generally a backlash, and you don't hear them often on places like WFMU. Not my personal opinion on Mac, like them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm listener james from westwood:

I want to see the movie this Sancherries cut would be used in. For some reason I'm thinking anime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm doctorjazz:

The Eagles had a similar progression, were cool, then megastars and not so cool, now seem to be getting some listening again.
Avatar 4:33pm famous original sugarwolf:

OH GOD I was going to bring up Jimmy Iovine!!!!
Avatar 4:34pm slocker:

I totally went to that show too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm listener james from westwood:

Jimmy Iovine: Musicsplainer. What a scrote.
  4:34pm JorgeBK:

L'echappee. Wow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm listener james from westwood:

OMG, yes, iTunes gets logarithmically worse with each "upgrade."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Gaylord Fields:

@doctorjazz: You should do a playlist search of "Fleetwood Mac" on WFMU's playlist — they have been played often and consistently since our playlists began in 2001. The Mac are definitely on the front end of WFMU's very, very, very "long tail"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm listener james from westwood:

The podcasts are another tangled mess. If you've got a human-sized finger there's no navigating them on a touchscreen.
  4:36pm nEIL cOMMA wILD:

@Listener James from Westwood-as an engineer, I totally applaud your use of the word "logarithmically".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Andrew Waterloo:

  4:36pm MONEYBAG$:

Apple is generally ruining everything that used to work fine. iTunes is probably the worst example.
Avatar 4:36pm Baumer!:

I'm curious what you will use as the itunes replacement. its become so painful.Somewhere along the line APple forgot how to make decent software. Photos is a nightmare too
Avatar 4:36pm famous original sugarwolf:

I was going to post this last week: flavorwire.com...

I thought it was interesting esp. in relation to the New Inquiry article about women record collectors.
Avatar 4:37pm djsheilab:

Here's the piece by WFMU DJ Jesse Jarnow in WIRED: www.wired.com...
Avatar 4:37pm KP:

  4:37pm Cooh John:

Don't need no stinkin' Itunes. I got WFMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Parq:

I've been avoiding upgrading iTunes for years for that exact reason. Fact is, I'm like four OS's behind on my Mac, mainly because a new OS will inevitably come with the current iTunes. I'm really glad, actually, to know that others are having the same experience. I was beginning to worry that it was me.
Avatar 4:38pm KP:

These guys started as the answer to Suede.
Avatar 4:38pm djsheilab:

"It's your choice, it's your right to choose who you listen to. It's your rock n' roll!!!" Yeaaaaahh...did that lyric.
Avatar 4:38pm djsheilab:

  4:39pm modchick65:

Thank you, Sheila. As a woman, I have trouble finding music... because Apple has changed iTunes and I now have to scroll through 20k freaking songs to find something (instead of just being able to pull it up on a small seasonally curated selection of music on my iPhone). So I've just started using Spotify... Jimmy's competitor. Ha.
  4:40pm modchick65:

This Denim song is sounding awesome. I didn't really listen to them back in the day, but I'm going to look them up.
Avatar 4:41pm KP:

I subscribed to the new Apple music thing but was sickened by their choices infiltrating my playlists. So i turned that feature off. But im still paying, now not to be bothered, i guess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Parq:

The thing is, I still really like having an iPod. I'm one of those dinos with the old spinning-drive kind, and nothing beats it for car trips. Sigh. First world problems, of course.
Avatar 4:44pm Aly Dukes:

Spotify is the bomb. Worth the 10 dollars a month. Their playlists based on your listening history are great.
Avatar 4:44pm statoj:

Cooh John, I Second That Emotion!
  4:44pm MONEYBAG$:

My old iPod finally died a few months ago, so sad.
  4:45pm majorwaxbuildup:

Goldfrapp! Contemporary classic!
Avatar 4:46pm djsheilab:

I do like Spotify, but I still like "owning" my mp3s and therefore want a management system that I can work with like the old iTunes. Jesse Jarnow mentions Swinsian in his WIRED piece. Anyone try that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm doctorjazz:

@Gaylord-I didn't do any research, just my very unscientific impression having FMU on many hours a day at the office, but I'm glad to hear them any time. Bands do often have a waxing and waning of interest over time, and some do come back after the "sick of hearing them all the time" phase has passed.
  4:48pm lloyd michigan:

25,000+ songs on my ipod. Hope it never dies.
Avatar 4:49pm djsheilab:

@llyod michigan best thing is to NEVER update. I made the grave mistake last week and that's why I'm getting out of iTunes. It's a nightmare.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Andrew Waterloo:

I work with a guy who is big on Apple's 'don't make the user think' design philosophy and I've always felt there was a point where it would quickly work against.
Avatar 4:50pm KP:

Denim was the answer to Felt, not Suede. Felt was the answer to Suede. A long time ago i arrived in London, turned on the TV and there was Denim's lead singer singing "I'm Against the 80's" and i thought this is going to be great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Andrew Waterloo:

... work against the user
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm doctorjazz:

Never use iTunes...use JRiver and listen to a Pono player, Neil's player.
  4:51pm modchick65:

I understand. I have so many MP3s, and I too would like something with which to satisfactorily manage them... because iTunes is so no longer it. I'm just always apprehensive about those smaller company programs because the companies often stop upgrading or they just disappear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Andrew Waterloo:

My portable music players are an old Sanyo with a couple Coil albums, and my phone with a few saved WFMU shows.
  4:52pm modchick65:

@KP. Felt were founded in 1979, so they can't be the answer to Suede. :)
  4:53pm lloyd michigan:

djsheilab, I agree. Haven't upgraded my imac's OS either.
  4:53pm majorwaxbuildup:

You're very welcome! Neil is my main man! I want to picket the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to get him inducted. Come on people! I mean...Green Day? Neil needs to be in there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Gaylord Fields:

@doctorjazz:Please keep in mind that WFMU has a playlist roughly 100,000 larger than any other radio station (not hyperbole), and you may appreciate that even hearing Fleetwood Mac here once a week is a lot!
Avatar 4:53pm djsheilab:

@modchick65 I hear ya. I too have a large library so it's quite daunting to move everything elsewhere. Feel a bit stuck here.
Avatar 4:54pm statoj:

The genius of 60s music is how they made anxst ridden lyrics sound so upbeat and exuberant. How do they do it? Sheila you are a goddess!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm doctorjazz:

Many players will import your iTunes music, I believe JRiver (which can be gotten for free under the name Ponomusic player, or something like that) does it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Gaylord Fields:

I also have encased my old iTunes in amber by never "updowngrading" to a recent version.
  4:56pm lloyd michigan:

RE: Fleetwood Mac. Great band in all incarnations. But no radio station needs to play Hotel California ever again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Andrew Waterloo:

I think WFMU plays more music in a 3 hour set than most radio stations play in a week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm doctorjazz:

And, I still like to hear Hotel California (after being quite sick of it for a while).
Avatar 4:57pm djsheilab:

Lowly is a new band from Denmark. Have been LOVING this track all week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm doctorjazz:

Leaving the office, check out the rest of the show from the car, great weekend, all!
  4:59pm MONEYBAG$:

Gaylord, I have wondered what is defined as "heavy rotation" on WFMU... 3 plays in a week?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Guido from Cologne:

hello Sheila!
Hello people!
Avatar 5:02pm famous original sugarwolf:

But girls aren't people! Just ask Jimmy Iovine!
Avatar 5:03pm statoj:

Hello, Guido!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm Gaylord Fields:

@MONEYBAG$: There is such a thing as a "WFMU hit": usually new releases that have caught on with more than one DJ in a given month. But my guesstimate is that the most popular song in a given week would get 3-5 plays.
  5:09pm Dean from Baltimore:

Save Your Soul is a blast - it's usually held in the Lithuanian Community Center, a massive church-like relic with spires and many mirrored surfaces inside. I've seen J. Waters there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm Guido from Cologne:

I miss my local "northern soul" nights. Just know about quasi-mod parties right now.
(By the way I'm back from Wire concert. ... loud ... well, teenage nostalgia, so to say. But some people who never heard of them before were seriously amazed.)
  5:12pm Matt M:

That Gia track is what one might call a stunner :)
  5:14pm majorwaxbuildup:

Sheila-you MUST do SYS in Baltimore sometime. It's great!
  5:15pm JakeGould:

@Lloyd: You don't like "Hotel California?" Get out of my peaceful cab!
Avatar 5:16pm djsheilab:

Ok, so Isabelle Adjani is more of a sexy whisperer than a singer.
Avatar 5:17pm famous original sugarwolf:

She sings like Catherine Deneuve and Jane Birkin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Carmichael:

Making it in for the final few booms. Heya Sheila and end-of-weekers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Gaylord Fields:

@Matt M: As is the price. :(
Avatar 5:18pm statoj:

Dean, I lived in Baltimore for 20 yrs and never knew about SYS. What part of town is the church in?
Avatar 5:18pm djsheilab:

Hey @Carmichael! @Majorwaxbuildup I'd love to DJ SYS!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Gaylord Fields:

@djsheilab: Let me know if/when this happens, and I'll make the trip!
  5:20pm modchick65:

Would the Baltimore soul night happen to take place in the Lithuanian Hall? I was at a Night of 100 Elvises there once, and it was pure fabulous.
  5:21pm majorwaxbuildup:

Yes Modchick65 you are correct.
  5:21pm Dean from Baltimore:

@statoj I think it's only been going on for 5ish years.... The Lithuanian hall is off MLK Blvd, near the UM Biopark
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Carmichael:

I wonder who played guitar on that Adjani song? The style sounded very familiar. Gainsbourg?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm listener james from westwood:

Tom Jones!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Guido from Cologne:

Groovy British bass guitar
Avatar 5:23pm statoj:

Thanks, Dean! I just moved out of town in June. So much good creative stuff in Baltimore.
Avatar 5:24pm statoj:

Tom indeed!!! Unfortunately, on this note I must sign off. Til next week. XX

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm AndrewC.:

I hope all you Jarvis fans are checking out the Sunday Service every week on the BBC.
5:28pm Adrian in London and The Contessa:

Been out at a show so will listen on the catch-up, unless you want to start again from the beginning now? X

Oh, Pulp; met Jarvis at a fun fair the other week. He said he'd been on the ghost train and was scared; his wife had made him keep his eyes open!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm adrian in mpls:

love "His N Hers"!
  5:28pm modchick65:

Pulp is one of my two absolute, hands-down, complete and total favorite bands of all time.
Avatar 5:28pm Baumer!:

@AndrewC is the Sunday Service back? I thought it was gone for awhile? A great show
  5:29pm modchick65:

Wait... Jarvis is married? [Heart breaks all over desk]
Avatar 5:29pm famous original sugarwolf:

@modchick65: me too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm AndrewC.:

It was gone for the summer, been back for a month or so now.
  5:29pm MONEYBAG$:

Look for the photo of Jarvis and son!
  5:30pm modchick65:

@MONEYBAG$ I heard they got divorced. Did he get re-married? Did I miss my Window of Opportunity?
Avatar 5:31pm Baumer!:

@andrewc nice i'm glad its back. I'll have to check it out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Carmichael:

@drewo: definitely see the APP. The lead singer and keyboard player (and Alan for that matter) are friends of mine, although they don't know me under my screen name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Andrew Waterloo:

In the Gainsbourg biography, I remember Birkin talking about how Serge would have her sing in a register higher than than natural
  5:35pm Santos L Halper:

I thought the Alan Parsons Project was some sort of hovercraft, no?
  5:36pm modchick65:

Wow. That vulnerability quote is really great. Especially for those of us trying to write songs and struggling with that very issue.
Avatar 5:41pm famous original sugarwolf:

this is one of my favorite Blondie songs....

You are playing so many things I loooooove this week, Sheila!!!
  5:41pm modchick65:

This Blondie record is from 1976, not 1982. By 1982, they were breaking up. :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Carmichael:

C'mon, this is really a young Debbie Harry, no?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Carmichael:

Oh , there we go, the playlist changed. Never mind ....
Avatar 5:42pm djsheilab:

Thanxxxxxxx @sugarwolf! Oops...thanks @modchick65. Will update!
  5:43pm modchick65:

I was there. Blondie was my first ever favorite band, and, in 1982, they released "Island of Lost Souls." Even at age 11, I was like, "This isn't that good."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Guido from Cologne:

young Debbie Harry?
she looked incredible young!
she has a solid Hippie past

Sheila - it's Rob from Save Your Soul in Baltimore! We're booking the spring soon - we'd love to have you down!
  5:46pm modchick65:

Debbi Harry was born in 1945, so when the first album came out, she was 31.
  5:46pm rob_fearless:

and thanks for all the kind works, Jason, modchick & Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Guido from Cologne:

gaylord says it all
nice sunshine pop record, this wind and the willows
  5:49pm modchick65:

Wow, I haven't heard this song in SO long. Takes me straight back to folding pocket ts at the Gap in high school. Total blast from the past.
Avatar 5:50pm djsheilab:

@Rob_Fearless! Hey! Oh yes...count me in! I'd love to DJ this fab night that I've heard so much about. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Carmichael:

Thanks for the link, Gaylord. I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Gaylord Fields:

@rob_fearless: If I may be so bold, I would not be averse to DJing there myself — Sheila can speak as to my bona fides. And here's my résumé:
