Doug Schulkind:

Bluestar was a remarkable creature. He had long flowing hair and wore it proudly. Had the clown face of Pagliacci that made him hard to ever take seriously. Was the most nimble beast, able to tiptoe amongst the most precarious objects with nary a jiggle. Could fly like the wind, jumping up to amazing heights. We called him the Up High Guy, because he loved to climb up to lofty perches and then gargoyle his head over the side and watch the world. He slept with me and Jessie every night for the last 17 years, and he was the softest and the cuddliest. He was also a real asshole, making life miserable for another of our cats and peeing all over everything everywhere. But we loved him dearly.

Brian in UK, that is reminiscent of this excerpt from Frederick Douglass' famous "there is no progress without struggle" speech:

"If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom and yet deprecate agitation are men who want crops without plowing the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the roar of its mighty waters."

SoP, BiUK, Doug, ifny, 100%. I often wonder what might've been if, in that moment when the world held its breath and extended its hand, ready to grieve with us, we'd been able to own our vulnerability and our pain, instead of burning it out with our hate.
