John Jenkins was another promising young alto saxist. Completely fell off the scene in 1962. Some reported seeing him selling trinkets on the streets of NYC. Wikipedia says he worked as a messenger for a while. An enduring mystery.

Jenkins and the tenor saxist on this date, Clifford Jordan, were buddies from Chicago. Toward the end of his life, Jenkins started playing again, and hooked up with Jordan again. Both Jenkins and Jordan were born in 1931 and died in 1993.

Good morning, Doug! Good morning woofMoo world! And, regrettably, goodbye to Michael Snow who did indeed pass on yesterday. He was a respectably good jazz improviser at the piano, in addition his global influence on contemporary art: With a few kindred spirits, he created The Music Gallery here in Toronto in the 70s, a home for free-form musical expression. Saw a great duet there once with Marshall Allen and Terry Adams of NRBQ. Found my ex-piano teacher there too. Laters, Mike. Be cool.

I have not seen him perform, but I have met him on a couple occasions. There's a de-facto 'group of musicians around here working in areas of 'new music' who all know each other and often attend (ed) each other's performances and/or collaborate. My teacher was one. I used to see James Tenney around quite often. I never 'cozyed' up to any of them, I just met them briefly.

From memory, Franco, they were in a movie-ticket lineup, and some post-grad wonk was erroneously expounding on McLuhan's media theories to his date, while Alvy Singer rolled his eyes and squirmed, until he could stand it no lnger

This tune always makes me think of the lyric to "Time on My Hands":

"With time on my hands (and you in my arms)"
