I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Hi from Eastern Kentucky, pretty place for a quick vacation... Heading out for KFC soon, seems required.
Avatar    Sat. 8/5/17 12:11pm Mayuko:

This is a track that illustrates the battle of Dan-no-ura, the bloody final sea battle in a civil war in 12th century. The samurais of the losing clan are all killed and the women and children jumped into the sea so that they wouldn't get caught by the enemy.
Avatar    Sat. 8/5/17 12:11pm fred:

I like this Kinshi Tsuruta track. Now that I have a new computer, I can see the kanji characters! Not that I can read them, but that's still an improvement
Avatar    Sat. 8/5/17 12:12pm Mayuko:

Hi doctorjazz! how is the temperature like there in Kentucky?
Avatar    Sat. 8/5/17 12:14pm Mayuko:

Congrats on the new computer, fred! How are you health-wise?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 8/5/17 12:14pm coelacanth∅:

i have an album with a song called "kurokami" which is very different...pretty sure traditional song. (?)
Avatar    Sat. 8/5/17 12:16pm Mayuko:

Hoichi the earless, a blind genius Biwa playe were taken away by ghosts, and performed this track in a cemetery for those dead people to relieve their souls. In the film Kwaidan & the old folklore.
Avatar    Sat. 8/5/17 12:19pm fred:

I had two weeks off work, so that threw the whole blood-thinner thing into a roller-coaster. Two blood tests a week, that sucks. But I feel good, so it's only annoying
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 8/5/17 12:19pm doctorjazz:

Really varies in the few days I've been here, now 60 degrees, high 78, yesterday really hot and muggy with short showers of and on (mostly off)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 8/5/17 12:20pm coelacanth∅:

Thankful you're okay fred.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 8/5/17 12:21pm doctorjazz:

Sorry to hear it, Fred, glad your doing better.

...i don't eat chicken, but i wonder if "kentucky fried chicken" is better in kentucky, or worse
  Sat. 8/5/17 12:23pm Rickwaukee:

Maybe when these folks get done hissing and shushing each other, we'll get to hear Mr Cage play
Avatar    Sat. 8/5/17 12:25pm fred:

Playing Takemitsu, Cage, and traditional Japanese music in the same set makes a lot of sense
Avatar    Sat. 8/5/17 12:26pm Mayuko:

@coelacanth∅ yup you're right, there is a Nagauta song titled Kurokami, which is indeed a traditional thing. The one we heard was from the first story in this 1965 film called Kwaidan directed by Masaki Kobayashi.

I remember Kwaidan, the Snow Lady was really spooky and mysterious
  Sat. 8/5/17 12:29pm Gary:

Yay, I was looking for ghost tracks this week
Avatar    Sat. 8/5/17 12:31pm Mayuko:

@Rickwaukee that one said it's only an excerpt, the hissing and shushing must have gone on for a pretty long time.
Avatar    Sat. 8/5/17 12:38pm Mayuko:

@P-90 The snow lady story was a sad one.

Gary!! Glad to have you here!

In the past 45 min I've had my upstairs neighbor, mistaken re: his location, attempt to key my door open, AND my smoke alarm shriek out of nowhere (it's evidently dying). So this show has been a fine baseline of calm for me to get my heart rate back down each time.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 8/5/17 1:31pm coelacanth∅:

Mayuko @1.03 kingston ny isn't far enough upstate to be much cooler than jersey city. new paltz, just 15 miles south of kingston, was between 90-105 degrees F for 6 weeks straight a few summers ago. (& humid)
  Sat. 8/5/17 1:34pm Jeff g.:

There are worse jobs. But there are also better jobs for paying the bills. You'd have more to tell me than I, you, I'm sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 8/5/17 1:34pm coelacanth∅:

(although we do have hiking spots that are 10-20 degrees cooler, sometimes with water to get into.)
Avatar    Sat. 8/5/17 1:38pm Mayuko:

@coelacanth∅ oh! I just assumed anything above Westchester would be upstate, haha. Nobody had defined it for me, now that I think!
Avatar    Sat. 8/5/17 1:39pm Mayuko:

@Jeff g. there are EASIER jobs for paying the bills, I'm sure about that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 8/5/17 1:42pm coelacanth∅:

people call it "upstate"...technically it is; but new paltz is 1-1/2 hour drive from jc at most. kingston maybe another 25 minutes.
  Sat. 8/5/17 1:43pm Jeff g.:

@mayuko: do tell. I'm always looking for those.

interesting story... my friend in college said her mom acquired healing powers after her home burned down. apparently kannon-sama appeared in her dream after the fire and gave her the power. I met her once and she was a funny lady giving healing sessions to a golf teacher for free lessons.
