Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

*SWAG FOR LIFE RENEWALS & PRIZE ELIGIBILITY*
Everything you need to know about how to credit Swag for Life renewals to the shows you wish to support, and how to make those pledges prize-eligible can be found here:

DON'T PLEDGE UNTIL YOU'VE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE FIRST COMMENT!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 3/11/16 11:00am Uncle Michael:

Step 1. Enter a dollar amount (Pledges of $20 or more make you eligible for fabulous prizes that I'll be giving way during each of my two fundraising shows.)

Step 2. Select either "Per Month, Swag for Life," or "One-time." (Swag for Life provides the station with sustenance till you ask us to stop. It's the best way to support WFMU!)

Step 3. (IMPORTANT!) Click the PLUS (+) button to support the selected show.
Additional shows may be selected. After each selection, click the PLUS (+) button to add it to the list of selected shows.
(if no shows are listed BELOW the menu, pledges go the station as a whole, not to specific shows and will not be thanked on the air or be eligible for prizes)

My unsolicited suggestion: revamp WFMU's 'net presence to require command line control exclusively. Much more reliable.

Since I have the same first and last name as an infamous conspiracy theorist, maybe I should propose a conspiracy theory about Bryce's show getting the credit for the Drummer stream shows.
Avatar Fri. 3/11/16 12:30pm Alex In Illinois:

βrian: We are no longer a "dry" village any more. I don't remember when Oak Park started allowing liquor sales but has been at least 25 or 30 years.

Avatar Fri. 3/11/16 12:33pm Doug Schulkind:

As many of you know, I have been pulled away from my usual Drummer Stream/Marathon duties to take care of my father in the aftermath of my mom's passing two weeks ago. Uncle Michael has stepped in to handle all of the behind-the-scenes work and preparation for me—and I just wanted to express my gratitude publicly.

Give the Drummer Radio would not be participating in the 2016 Marathon without the tireless and generous efforts of Uncle Michael.

Thank you, my friend.
Fri. 3/11/16 12:33pm Nine in PGH:

Another cause of Pledge Crediting error is when filling out the pledge form make sure that the amount of pledge is entered before crediting the show desired.
If the amount is changed after selecting and ADDING (+) show to credit, the pledge will go to the current WFMU Over The Air show.
I think that can be fixed before getting to the personal info page but it can be easily missed and there is no indication on the final pledge page of the show selected for credit.
That was my dillema this morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/11/16 12:34pm Listener Scott:

I emailed Joe to switch credit. Either way, I'm re-SWAG'ed up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/11/16 12:35pm Listener Scott:

Nine in PGH--I think that's what must've happened to me, thanks for the explanation. There should probably be error checking programming to force you to choose a program instead of picking one by default.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/11/16 12:36pm Listener Scott:

Doug--I'm real sorry to hear about your mom. :(
Avatar Fri. 3/11/16 12:37pm Alex In Illinois:

βrian: Yes. There was one on Marion Street Mall for a little bit. Now, the Marion Street Cheese Market would be a place to buy choice wines. You can also buy wine at the Jewel grocery stores, the Pete's Grocery store, the CVS sores and the Walgreens stores.
Avatar Fri. 3/11/16 12:37pm Doug Schulkind:

Thank you much, Scott.
Avatar Fri. 3/11/16 12:37pm listener james from westwood:

Lee Hazlewood is a perfect example of an artist who I never would have gotten even casually acquainted with had it not been for WFMU. Even his big "hit," "Some Velvet Morning," which Art Bell used as bumper music and so gave some publicity, likely would've slid by me, and I NEVER would've heard as many of his deeper cuts. As it was, my mom asked me what this one song was that she was hearing late at night on Coast to Coast, and she hummed some of it for me. And this WFMU listener closed the circle for her.
So thanks to UM and GTDR and WFMU for closing so many of my musical circles.
Fri. 3/11/16 12:39pm Nine in PGH:

It's not quite like an online purchase in the sense that one cannot see ALL of the details before hitting the Pledge button. But Joe is correcting my account after I made another pledge the right way.
  Fri. 3/11/16 12:40pm Dean:

Another Pilot tune worth racking up frequent flyer airplay miles: "First After Me," from Morin Heights. And William Lyall's solo work, too.
Avatar Fri. 3/11/16 12:40pm Alex In Illinois:

I never noticed that this Magic song had so many hand claps in it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/11/16 12:40pm Webhamster Henry:

And one of the things hooking me on WFMU early on was the Some Velvet Morning DECTALK cover by WFMU fan Peter Langston. Played on David Newgarden's show.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/11/16 12:43pm Goyim in the AM:

Also if you messed up the credit and you're a swag-for-life renewer playing the Marathon slot machine style, maybe take a look at who is deejaying on the other side and pledge for both of 'em! I listen to Doug live and Marty McS on the archive, so I just tossed in another pledge!
Avatar Fri. 3/11/16 12:46pm βrian:

Some web developer should be put through the Spanking Machine! (à la Stephen Colbert.)
  Fri. 3/11/16 12:47pm Dean:

Dire Straits-themed show?
Avatar Fri. 3/11/16 12:47pm Wilson K:

Yeah the pledging's all effed up. Ironically it credited my pledge yesterday to one of the few shows that I specifically avoid. But at least it's all going to WFMU!
  Fri. 3/11/16 12:49pm Dean:

If we're casting asparagus, I blame Steve Jobs and, somewhat, Sir Tim Berners-Lee. Life was so much easier with csh.
Avatar Fri. 3/11/16 12:49pm βrian:

@Wison. Let me guess... Anyway, I hope that's fixed by next Thursday. I'll have my tax refund.
Avatar Fri. 3/11/16 12:50pm Wilson K:

See but that's the beauty of the streams—when FMU is in non-musical gear-grinding feedback mode, you always have something dope to switch to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 3/11/16 12:50pm Goyim in the AM:

There's no live dj on the alternate streams when my mortal WFMU enemy is on air, thank goodness.
Avatar Fri. 3/11/16 12:51pm βrian:

Mmm, asparagus. I like it lightly seared in olive oil with salt, cracked pepper, and lemon juice.
Avatar Fri. 3/11/16 12:51pm Lane Gray:

I give up on qualifying. I hit the plus sign. My second 75 was uncredited anyway. Y'all can have the money, but I'm done trying for the prizes on the plinth. I meant to give 75, and you have 150.
Avatar Fri. 3/11/16 12:53pm Lane Gray:

Avatar Fri. 3/11/16 12:54pm Lane Gray:

We lost electricity for 5 1/2 hours yesterday, foiling my plan to pledge to Matt Fiveash.

Kelie McIver pledged $75 to your show Michael.

UM, I am coming back from being out of the room. Are you doing next week's show from Monty again this year?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 3/11/16 2:28pm Uncle Michael:

Yessir.
Avatar Fri. 3/11/16 2:32pm βrian:

I googled "Wounded D.J. Project" and ended up here. You're not whooping it up at D.J. conferences, are you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 3/11/16 2:33pm Uncle Michael:

Ummm...not the fake me, no.

Okay, "Jesus Christ Supercut" is a fairly brilliant title.
Avatar Fri. 3/11/16 2:39pm βrian:

@James: especially for a bris.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 3/11/16 2:39pm pacific standard simon:

I'm wondering why Jesus Christ Supercut isn't the DJ premium this year.
  Fri. 3/11/16 2:41pm Kelie Jane:

Did my pledge to your fabulous show, but online burped it out to Bryce's show instead! The fabu team at WFMU quickly is putting it right -- good job, Ken -- so that YOUR show gets the thumbs up from it! Looking forward to my DJ premium!!! Love your show, Uncle Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 3/11/16 2:42pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Fri. 3/11/16 2:47pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Yup UM(2:42), That's why I never get listen to my gazillion CDs & LPs. Between live and archives I rarely get past FMU!

  Fri. 3/11/16 2:57pm Dean:

Seriously? That was entirely unexpected. Bad times for our generation of rockers.

There's something like that, Brian...but that's another story.
  Fri. 3/11/16 2:59pm Dean:

Geez, and I'd just read Charles Pierce's post wrapping up with a reference to "the collective works of the late political philospher, Dr. L. Kilmeister: DON'T FORGET THE JOKER!"

See you next week, Uncle.
