Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

This sounds sorta like Toussaint's "Get Out of My Life Woman"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/22/16 12:14pm listener james from westwood:

I will be copyediting in northern NJ through tomorrow's torments as long as power holds out. We actually might be better off than coastal bits of NYC, so I predict lots of hours being racked up.

OK, so I lied about Radiohead.

Did I hear that right? The Sweeny
What ever it is causing you to lean towards that song has peaked my interest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 12:25pm Uncle Michael:

The Sweeney...and it didn't inspire the selection...they just seem to resonate.

Hiya JOE.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/22/16 12:26pm Spaniel:

That's the guy that plays Inspector Morse, love that show! Have to check Sweeney out. I just powered my way through a 70s Thames documentary series "The World and War" which was incredibly fascinating WWII history documentary (on youtube in HD).
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 12:26pm Uncle Michael:

Theme song from the alternate universe version of Cheers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 12:27pm Uncle Michael:

Thaw's Jack Regan character was a badass...a maverick and a bit of a whinger...not like Morse...but like Morse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/22/16 12:27pm Jeff Golick:

Tim is not a perfect-sounding album, but I kinda love it for it.

just figured out that their group name is Staple singular...family name is Staples plural. Woulda thought I'd have caught that earlier, but there you go. Always an education here on HDT.
Avatar Fri. 1/22/16 1:42pm Doug Schulkind:

I much prefer the Office Depot Singers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 1:43pm Parq:

Saw the Outlaws in '77. Good playing, but man, their between-song patter was moronic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 1:43pm Uncle Michael:

That's a funny joke there, Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 1:44pm Uncle Michael:

What did they talk about, Parq?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/22/16 1:44pm listener james from westwood:

Enjoying our weekly visits with those (ghost) riders! They still ain't caught 'em yet!
Avatar Fri. 1/22/16 1:50pm Lane Gray:

Speaking of Cab, last night's ISIHAC (on the ROK British Comedy stream) features My Favorite Things to the tune of Minnie the Moocher, with the rest of the cast hollering back "Crisp Apple Strudel" and "Schnitzel with Noodles" (possibly of interest to nobody but Brian. Love those Willie Rushton years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 1:52pm Uncle Michael:

That sounds rather brilliant.
Avatar Fri. 1/22/16 1:54pm Lane Gray:

It was. And since I forgot it above, )

I remember those days.
Avatar Fri. 1/22/16 1:55pm Lane Gray:

Were they trying to combine yankee and southern accents?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 1:57pm Parq:

Lane, my regional phonetic spelling is imperfect.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 2:00pm Brian in UK:

@Lane Sometimes One Tune etc is the best moment of the show.
Willie Rushton was a great loss.
Avatar Fri. 1/22/16 2:01pm Doug Schulkind:

It's snowing in Nashville.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/22/16 2:01pm joe:

Not in North East NJ yet
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/22/16 2:01pm listener james from westwood:

No flakes yet in Bergen, close to the NY border.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 2:03pm Parq:

Cold and raw in midtown NYC, but no snow yet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 2:03pm Brian in UK:

Snowing in Great Nose, Montana? Apologies to Glenn Frey.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/22/16 2:22pm mauri:

good set for sure. here its finally getting back to near 0C after weeks of near -30C
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 2:24pm Rich in Washington:

the show's awesome - I'm just too lazy and hungover to type anything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/22/16 2:24pm listener james from westwood:

I'm across from a Trader Joe's that is likely a riot scene right now, denuded of bread and milk in some sort of play to use sympathetic magic on the storm by pitting white against white.
Avatar Fri. 1/22/16 2:25pm βrian:

It's the Tom Yum Hour, U.M.
Avatar Fri. 1/22/16 2:26pm βrian:

Trailer Joe's means mahi-mahi and coconut milk to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 2:28pm Rich in Washington:

I need to try Tom Yum. I am hooked on Tom Kha Gai something fierce.
Avatar    Fri. 1/22/16 2:29pm Roberto:

I know that TJ's in Westwood. I used to shop there before there were any in Manhattan. It's next to a liquor wholesaler, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 2:29pm Uncle Michael:

I'm loving "Trailer Joe's."
Avatar Fri. 1/22/16 2:30pm Lane Gray:

I'd like to get back to OC. Tired of this cold
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/22/16 2:32pm listener james from westwood:

@Roberto: Correct-a-mundo! The combo makes for a very full parking lot around holidays.
Avatar Fri. 1/22/16 2:33pm βrian:

@Rich: try two drops of fish sauce in your next dry martini. No joke.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/22/16 2:34pm Alex In Illinois:

I swear that he is singing "smell" and not "sell".
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 2:34pm Uncle Michael:

All this Thai talk makes me want the roast duck with ginger from Tuptim.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 2:36pm Rich in Washington:

I have fish sauce. I may have to try that. Truth told, I use fish sauce as a magic secret ingredient in lots of stuff I cook.
But, MAN does it smell horrible on a hot pan or wok.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 2:37pm Uncle Michael:

They sing both, Alex...gotta sell because it smells.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 2:38pm Rich in Washington:

"Trader Joe's? - more like class traitor Joe.." Me after looking at my receipt the first time I ever shopped there.
Avatar Fri. 1/22/16 2:39pm βrian:

Our kitchen once got too crowded with guests during a dinner party. Fish sauce in a hot pan gave me room to work, pronto!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 2:39pm Uncle Michael:

There are really great deals to be had there, in my opinion, Rich.
Avatar Fri. 1/22/16 2:40pm Lane Gray:

Is the roast duck good? I love the Tiger Cry beef appetizer, and everything else I've had there
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/22/16 2:41pm Alex In Illinois:

I'm heading there on the way home to pick some hot cereal and goat cheese. Their goat cheese is priced better than everywhere except Costco.
Avatar Fri. 1/22/16 2:41pm βrian:

What is it with TJ's antagonism toward checkout counters, anyway? Very annoying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 2:43pm Rich in Washington:

Trader Joe's is actually the only place near me for miles where I can get decent stuff. I kid, but distinctly remember the sticker shock once I started shopping healthy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 2:46pm Uncle Michael:

Lane, the duck is great...tell them you want lots of ginger.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/22/16 2:48pm Mike East:

Is Tuptim a thai place by you Uncle Michael? We have one by me, too...though I don't think it's a chain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 2:49pm Uncle Michael:

Yes...not a chain. Our only Thai restaurant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/22/16 2:50pm Mike East:

Ah. I'm lucky to have more than one option, cuz I don't like their attitude at Tuptim.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/22/16 2:51pm Alex In Illinois:

I find prices for the same items found at regular grocery stores lower at TJ's, but higher at WF's. For example, items like a pound of 96% lean ground beef.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 2:54pm Uncle Michael:

TJ's can exist if only for the triple ginger cookies. That's enough to justify.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 2:54pm Brian in UK:

Nice one, Uncle. Take it steady, folks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/22/16 2:54pm Jeff Golick:

Hey, I'm back! HOPE THERE'S LOTS OF SHOW LEFT!
Avatar Fri. 1/22/16 2:54pm Lane Gray:

Named after a character in The King and I, I bet there are 975 Thai restaurants in the US with that name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/22/16 2:55pm Uncle Michael:

Define "lots."
Avatar Fri. 1/22/16 2:55pm ndbob:

lovely version of this - and excellent show UM!
Avatar Fri. 1/22/16 2:55pm Lane Gray:

Let's Gofundme a watch for Jeff
Avatar Fri. 1/22/16 2:57pm βrian:

I know there's one in Ann Arbor. Good food, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/22/16 2:59pm Mike East:

NO GUILTY PLEASURES!!!

Here in Portland OR/Vancouver WA, there are a lot of Thai restaurants and many of them use some variation of 'Little Home' in their name but I don't think any of them are affiliated with one another.

Not a huge fan, but I remember when this "new" Eagles song came out. I remember it as being a touch faster.

Say what you will about the Eagles (and many have), there is perhaps no better sing-along-to-the-radio band.

See you next week

Thanks, Lane, but as Doug and others will tell you, I don't think a watch would help me much. The problem lies elsewhere.

One of my friends on social media summed it up pretty well - something to the effect that, had the Eagles not been so successful, not garnered so much airplay, they'd be lionized by hipsters rather than being so reviled. It seems really shitty that just days after grieving Bowie, people seemed to be celebrating Glenn Frey's death.

"It's a girl, my lord, in a flat-bed Ford, slowin' down to take a look at me." Yep, I see your point, Jeff.

@stevel; seemed faster when Clay played it last night too.
Great show UM, thanks!

Always liked the Eagles myself, but I'm a sap.
