Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Was trying to think of the best FMU to post this on, and I think it's this one. You know those DIY dance tracks where someone loops a clip from a movie or news event? "They're taking the hobbits to Isengard" -- "Hide ya wife, hide ya kids" -- that kinda thing? The mighty TV Tropes has assembled all of them -- *all* of them -- onto one page. Prepare to waste the rest of your day.

@Dean, really like Ken Peplowski on the clarinet as well...he's kinda interesting, in that I don't find him as compelling on tenor (not that he's bad, mind you, but there is more of "him" in the clarinet).

@doctorjazz, I agree. The clarinet playing surpasses the tenor. He has some lovely records on Japan's little Venus Records, e.g., http://www.discogs.com/Ken-Peplowski-Quartet-Memories-Of-You/release/4379555 Worth hunting down.

10cc reminds me of seeing 10cc a few years ago. Almost a totally different band. We were the youngest people there. Some church on the upper west. I smoked a joint in the bathroom.
It ruled.

Parq, it might be the beer.
  Fri. 1/29/16 1:19pm Dean:

On a first reading, I thought the Giuliani Parq was referring to was the former conductor of the LA Philharmonic. Then I remembered that other guy.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/29/16 1:21pm Uncle Michael:

I never had the good fortune.
  Fri. 1/29/16 1:25pm βrian:

I discovered that seeing Sun Ra, immediately following Dexter Gordon, is a cognitively jarring experience. But wow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/29/16 1:26pm Parq:

Dean, did the LA conductor also think that what New York needed was family-friendly entertainment and lots and lots and lots of chain stores? Because if he did, then he's on my shitlist, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/29/16 1:26pm doctorjazz:

Used to play downtown Manhattan quite often, sometimes in punk clubs, sometimes jazz clubs, went from rags to dissonance to big band to parades, costumes, it was a trip.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/29/16 1:37pm doctorjazz:

Sun Ra would bave been on the keyboard, he liked the electric piano and similar keyboards.

@Parq, Not to my knowledge. I suspect his motto was more like, "Fuck families. Sit down, shut up, and listen again to this Beethoven."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/29/16 1:38pm Uncle Michael:

Yikes.
  Fri. 1/29/16 1:39pm Dean:

So glad American laws rendered cabovers obsolete (we don't have overall length limits, any length of tractor you want, 53 foot trailers)

Cabovers less comfortable and harder to work on. Short wheelbase makes them bouncy, and your feet are first to the scene of a wreck.

Never heard of Martin Logan. What sort of speakers?
  Fri. 1/29/16 3:02pm Dean:

Electrostatics, including hybrids: panel on top, woofer below. Once upon a time, very nice gear. Now that they're heavy into "home theater," I'm not so sure.
Avatar    Fri. 1/29/16 3:02pm Alex In Illinois:

@Lane: So your feet end up being ahead of the front wheels, a lot like the older VW busses, right? In those, the feet were also first to the scene of the wreck.
Avatar Fri. 1/29/16 3:03pm Rich in Washington:

@Dean: Cabover Pete would make a great solo musician name.
Avatar Fri. 1/29/16 3:04pm Rich in Washington:

It hadn't occurred to me that I haven't seen a cabover semi around here in years. So, there was a law against them?
Avatar Fri. 1/29/16 3:05pm Lane Gray:

My new Milkman amp has a Telonics 12 made by Eminence. For beefing up the lows I have a Sica 15 in a closed-back cab. Like the new neodymium speakers.
Avatar    Fri. 1/29/16 3:06pm Alex In Illinois:

@Rich in Washington: I think Lane was suggesting that maximum overall length limit laws gave cabovers an advantage, because they were shorter.
Avatar Fri. 1/29/16 3:07pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks UM!
Avatar Fri. 1/29/16 3:07pm Lane Gray:

We didn't outlaw cabovers, but we took away their advantage. We used to have overall length laws, and the only way to get a 53' trailer under 65' was a cabover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/29/16 3:07pm Uncle Michael:

Bye folks! Thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 1/29/16 3:07pm doctorjazz:

Martin Logan stuff is indeed fine gear.
Avatar Fri. 1/29/16 3:10pm Lane Gray:

Since drivers hated driving them and mechanics hated working on them, people stopped ordering them. So they stopped making and importing them. Still big in Europe, though
