Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:02pm Caryn:

Does this mean an adoption has taken place?
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:03pm Mary Wing:

This Mr. Dormouse person is off to a great start, if so!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:04pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Would it be possible to add a column in the track list that indicates what band/artist is being covered? That would save some web searching later on.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:07pm Caryn:

Okay, have managed to cut my DJ premium wish list to 43. Just a little bit more culling needed. I should be ready by October.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:07pm Mary Wing:

To quote the Rev. Turnip Druid, Jeezus on a jellyfish, this Beatles cover is wonderful!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:08pm V Priceless:

Kinks! Kinda...
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:08pm Caryn:

Maybe that's how Jesus walked on water? He was actually just treading on some jellyfish.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:09pm Mary Wing:

Heh. Caryn, you think WAY outside the box. :-)
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:10pm common:

nice animation! hey kurt and all!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:11pm V Priceless:

hey comm!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:12pm Mary Wing:

Why hasn't anyone done a mash-up of "Lola" and "Layla" yet?
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:12pm common:

how goes it, vp?
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:13pm SeanG:

Looooo Laaa---you got me on my knees!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:13pm Eyepatch Fox:

AAAAHHHHH!!!!!! This is one of the best ever live things ever. Oh, PJ...
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:13pm Mike East:

my coworker ran sound for PJ Harvey earlier this week. He said she was super nice.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:14pm Mary Wing:

Is PJ in town, Mike? Is she working on new stuff, hope-hope-hopefully?
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:14pm KP:

Hey hey hey
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:14pm Kurt Gottschalk:

hi everyone! busy juggling files and making a sloppy playlist but i'll fill in details and talk to you soon!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:14pm cory:

leave it to wfmu to play a pj harvey song that i really dig
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:16pm Mike East:

@Mary Wing - I think it was a one off thing...acoustic performance at a gallery...I think. I just took the order, I don't ask questions. Didn't even find out it was PJ Harvey til the next day when my tech came back and said he was pleasantly surprised that the gig was actually cool.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:16pm Webhamster Henry:

I kinda like DEVO's Satisfaction.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:17pm Caryn:

I still remember the Q article from the year of that performance with Björk, PJ and Tori Amos. All three got on like a house on fire.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:18pm Webhamster Henry:

You probably are all set for this show, but I also really like Linda Gibbs' version of Tennessee Waltz that's on WFMU's They Came They Played They Blocked the Driveway.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:20pm common:

with you on the devo cover, webhamster!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:24pm Caryn:

It's awfully considerate towards DJs trying to compile a covers show to just name the album "The Covers Record". Handy.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:27pm Caryn:

It was the BRIT awards, Kurt. But it did lead to the Q magazine article.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:28pm Santos L Halper:

@WHHenry & common: Uncle Michael played a demo of that earlier today
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:29pm coelacanth:

More Roxy covers!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:34pm common:

good stuffs!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:37pm Caryn:

My DVR tv listings are f-ing with me. "Master comedian Roy Schneider in the hilarious comedy..." Okay, none of that bears any resemblance to the truth.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:38pm Webhamster Henry:

Ahh @Santos - well, out to lunch again. There is now more WFMU available than one can humanly listen to.
  Fri. 4/10/15 3:40pm Mark:

Point # 1: The Clash GIF is hilarious. #2: Energy level of Pears and StreisBAND is tremendous Point #3: The delicious piano intro of "How Deep Is Your Love" is the only possible segue. THIS is great radio, all of it.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:40pm Caryn:

Duo of Bee Gees-penned hits!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:47pm Caryn:

Kurt, I think it's just that often the tracks you play are 10-30 minutes long. If you have a mic break after the same number of tracks this week as a regular week, you end up talking more often.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:52pm glenn:

nice looking playlist. i've got the ball game on, so i have to enjoy it visually.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:54pm totallybiased:

these french beatles covers are pretty good: www.youtube.com...
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:55pm Caryn:

Hmm, Blondie first recorded OITS in 1975, before their first album. But even that demo doesn't seem to have been released until 1994... It's a mystery, Kurt.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:57pm Kurt Gottschalk:

thanks, caryn. i don't remember having blondie bootlegs but maybe i did. or maybe it's wishful thinking.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:57pm totallybiased:

P.E.D.'s 'Killing An Arab', should be in the Free Music Archive
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:59pm V Priceless:

whoa! was that a mutated Jeff Beck riff in there?
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 3:59pm Eyepatch Fox:

The squeeking just make my cat wake up and run from my lap seeking something to play with.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:04pm Caryn:

@Kurt: maybe you saw them live and they performed it then?
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:05pm Kurt Gottschalk:

first time i saw them was in the late 90s, but maybe it's a transplanted memory from that.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:06pm rsj:

really walking on
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:07pm common:

this makes me like walking on sunshine
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:10pm SeanG:

Coathangers kick ass
  Fri. 4/10/15 4:10pm Trash Boat:

Give us your weed. I love this.
  Fri. 4/10/15 4:11pm Mark:

You're killing me to day with your hilariousness. I'm sitting here at work chuckling. Everybody thinks I'm crazy. (I know, why should today be any different, right?)
  Fri. 4/10/15 4:13pm Dean:

This Go Go's cover is singing about this Bob Ostertag record cover: http://images.cdbaby.name/b/o/bobostertag5.jpg
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:13pm KP:

The video for this Sealed is equally excellent. tnx
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:17pm V Priceless:

Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:19pm V Priceless:

heard their new disc of covers is pretty good, too, actually
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:19pm Kurt Gottschalk:

they are such a weird band. great, but so weird.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:20pm Kurt Gottschalk:

who does a whole album of led zep covers 30 years into their career?
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:20pm Caryn:

When the Fudge track started, I first thought it was a slow psychedelic cover of "Pictures of Matchstick Men". The chord progression was similar.
  Fri. 4/10/15 4:21pm Dean:

There are times when I refer to my 4YO as "my little Diamanda." She earns the honor.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:30pm CDToaster:

Yes indeed there is a 6:43 version of You Keep Me Hanging On and it's on the Vanilla Fudge album Best of Vanilla Fudge.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:32pm Caryn:

It's also on their self-titled debut album from 1967.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:33pm cory:

when it comes to harmony my ranking is 1. Beach Boys 2. Bluegrass 3. everyone else
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:34pm Caryn:

Apparently, the shorter version of YKMHO was released as a single from the album, but the actual album track is the long one.
  Fri. 4/10/15 4:36pm Cooh John:

Nice RT cover.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:37pm Jeff:

It's always good to hear the Vincent Black Lightning song, but there is a certain compelling darkness to Richard Thompson's rendition which I miss if somebody else is singin' it.
  Fri. 4/10/15 4:38pm Dean:

For harmony *and* counterpoint, try Les Arts Florissants delivering Michel Lambert, from 1:30: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=expB4yac2KQ
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:38pm glenn:

the thing is, the fudge cover is way more ubiquitous than the original.
  Fri. 4/10/15 4:40pm Cooh John:

RT twofer. Thanks Kurt.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:42pm common:

hey. beersies! but i'm still listening. beer time.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:45pm V Priceless:

@ glenn - plus, Fudge was one of the earlier rock bands to have commercial success with a completely 're-imagined' cover version of a song. To Kurt's earlier comment on the Zep covers, I think they still ride the fumes of the re-invented cover version to this day. It's their 'thing'.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:45pm Bryant:

Ah, this Aztec Camera track and the earlier Bjork/PJ Harvey pairing on "Satisfaction" are two of my favorite cover versions of all time. Thanks, Kurt!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:50pm Caryn:

The thing is, Vanilla Fudge have never released an album without at least one cover on it, usually several. That's their schtick.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:51pm cory:

loving the VH covers
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:52pm V Priceless:

what....no Mac Sabbath? : )
  Fri. 4/10/15 4:53pm Dean:

Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:54pm Kurt Gottschalk:

oh, i can't do mac sabbath. i just can't.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:56pm V Priceless:

@ kurt: yeah - come to think of it, it's more of a visual train wreck anyway with those guys!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 4:58pm common:

these are greeeeet!
  Fri. 4/10/15 5:02pm Shack:

Love me some Zu!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:03pm cory:

oh eff yes!! i was hoping you would play this.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:04pm glenn:

i didn't hear kurt. i'm listening to the blue jays squish the orioles.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:06pm Caryn:

Just counted all the tracks on all Fudge albums: 8 albums, 75 tracks, 9 bonua tracks. Out of the 75, 45 are covers. Of the 9 bonus tracks, 4 are covers. And considering one of the covers is actually 9 covers mashed together...
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:07pm glenn:

caryn doing her due diligence.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:08pm TDK60:

I just realized we're listening to a bunch of covers. Only have been here 15 min.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:08pm nickygentz:

listening to the show and had to complement you on how great it is!!!,....this cover of Changes was one of the best covers I've ever heard!!!,..thanks for turning me on to it!!!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:10pm Kurt Gottschalk:

thanks nicky, and thanks everyone for tuning in!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:13pm cory:

and people say nothing positive comes from horrific child abuse
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:16pm Carmichael:

Heya Kurt, stopped treading water long enough to wave hello.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:17pm Kurt Gottschalk:

hi carms!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:20pm JakeGould:

Hey people.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:21pm Polyus:

OH it hurt him so bad!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:22pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...seven times I tune in aftewrwerk !!...
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...*afterwerk (I broke up)...
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:24pm Caryn:

And he kept on going... and he kept on going...

Hmm, did he ever say his name was Michael Caine?
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:25pm JakeGould:

I like when Isaac Hayes has long intros. I know I can go to the bathroom and come back to enjoy the rest of the song when the song happens.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:25pm Fredericks:

This Leslie organ chord is... changed.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:25pm Kurt Gottschalk:

caryn, ha!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...damn but them Fender Basses is made solid...
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:26pm Polyus:

By the time I get to stop playing this ride cymbal, my arm will be one massive cramp.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:28pm Caryn:

Changed the channel to catch the end of Close Encounters. Somehow, Isaac seems to meld together with John Williams quite nicely.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:28pm Kurt Gottschalk:

i can see that.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:29pm V Priceless:

By the time I get to Albuquerque, she'll be worky...
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:30pm dale:

damn epic version.
  Fri. 4/10/15 5:30pm Dean:

Take a wrong turn at Albuquerque and you'll end up at Pismo Beach.--B. Bunny
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:31pm Caryn:

@VP: You'll be feeling quirky (as usual), and hoping she won't end up all twerky.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...by the time I get to South Park
...this Bass had better come apart...
  Fri. 4/10/15 5:32pm Dean:

I keep wanting to read "phoenix" as a verb.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:32pm dale:

like scott muni used to say in a bumper - 'turn it up and rip the knob off!'
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:33pm cory:

this song feels longer than ken's bohemian rhapsody show
  Fri. 4/10/15 5:33pm Dean:

Any way to lead this into the closing jam of Boz Scaggs' "Loan Me a Dime"?
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:33pm Caryn:

@Dean: maybe it is. "By the time I get to construct a bonfire, set myself on fire, and then rise from the ashes..."
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:34pm dale:

i first heard this on a compilation of songs that inspired nick cave. this blew me away.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:34pm common:

all twerky. hee, caryn!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:34pm Caryn:

Close Encounters was followed by Judas Priest. It's kinda clashing with Isaac, sadly.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:34pm V Priceless:

good one, Caryn!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:34pm JakeGould:

@dale: “Turn it up, rip the knob off, lock your doors, rip off your clothes, finish that bottle of beer, open the window and shout in the courtyard… THIS is rock and roll radio and YOU are about to LOSE your APARTMENT!”
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- yeah Dale - 'Kicking Against the Pricks' is a great album.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:35pm dale:

i didn't want to bore people jake
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:38pm dale:

'original seeds' was the compilation. just great stuff

Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:39pm Caryn:

I'd like to give props to Polyus for his comment @5:26. I get the feeling the drummer spent the vast majority of Isaac's intro talk and the rest of the song glaring at him. "Oh, just get to the point already!"
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:40pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Cheers Dale ! 'Pricks' impressed me - so good for someone known as a Writer; shows how great they were as a band to do all Covers that well...
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:40pm JakeGould:

@dale: This Nick Cave cover of “Something’s Gotten Hold of My Heart” is amazing. www.youtube.com...
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Isaac was a Writer before a Performer, right? Did he arrange & produce all that himself?
- Yeah Jake - that's on 'Pricks'...
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:41pm cory:

sad kermit will always have a place in my heart as one of the great cover artists.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:44pm dale:

there are no bad versions of 'something's gotten hold of my heart' . it's one of pitney's best too.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:46pm dale:

frank sinatra covered kermit with 'it's not easy being green' . nice verion, too.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:49pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Kermit was equally adept @ interpreting the folk ballad & the crooned toon...helps to be amphibious...
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:51pm V Priceless:

great show, Kurt! Thank you kindly!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:52pm Kurt Gottschalk:

thanks, pops!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:53pm dale:

i hate to admit i was watching the rifleman for the first hour.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:53pm Kurt Gottschalk:

well, you don't _have_ to admit it...
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:54pm cory:

damnit dale, now i kinda want to listen to a have guns will travel
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:55pm Caryn:

As long as you were watching it, but listening to MM, you're fine.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:55pm Mugsy:

This was a real fun show, have a good night.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:55pm dale:

it's a good show - kinda weird knowing chuck connors was gay the whole time.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:55pm coelacanth:

Thank you Kurt
ciao people
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:56pm cory:

seriously awesome show kurt. seriously awesome chatting ppl
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:57pm Risky:

Kurt, this is amazing! Making my day right here.
  Fri. 4/10/15 5:57pm Dean:

By the time I get to Polwechsel...

What a way to wrap up an hour!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:58pm dale:

think i have to go back and listen to the whole shebang. did anyone ever cover "she bangs" by william hung?
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:59pm Kurt Gottschalk:

thanks all. the show is over....
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 5:59pm Carmichael:

Let's see the weirdos top this show!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 6:00pm Caryn:

@dale: not on this show, but there is this: www.youtube.com...
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 6:00pm JakeGould:
