Hiya, Gary!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 11:51am Gary:

Hanging out for a bit until the GF is ready for a Trader Joe's run. Play the good stuff first! :)
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 11:52am Tony Coulter:

O.K. -- I'll front-load everything. The last two hours will be horrible -- guaranteed.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 11:54am Gary:

LOL, thank you kindly, Mr. Dj!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 11:54am listener james from westwood:

Hello, all! Gary, is your TJ's one of those that carries their line of wine?
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 11:55am Gary:

Well, James, if we go to the one on 14th Street there's a whole TJ wine store right next door to the market proper
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 11:56am Tony Coulter:

Hola, James!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 11:59am Doug Schulkind:

No wine at our Trader Joe's, but plenty of whine.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:01pm listener james from westwood:

Gary: Convenient! My local TJ's doesn't have a liquor license, but they're next to a big A&P wine store, so almost no point in competing.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:01pm Tony Coulter:

Doug Doug!

What I hate are those cowbells they bang (at least out here)
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:01pm V Priceless:

Hey Tony and friends!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:02pm Jeff Golick:

LESS COWBELL!
  Tue. 8/5/14 12:02pm Dean:

I remember driving by a Trader Joe's on the Lower East Side when I was in NYC in January. There was a separate TJ's wine store adjacent to it. Shoot, here in California I can't imagine a TJ's without wine and beer!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:02pm listener james from westwood:

Doug, our TJ's only has whining when there are insufficient samples out. (The whiner may or may not be me.)
Jeff, that would be the refrain of the Bizarro Walken.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:03pm Tony Coulter:

Jeff!! V Priceless!! Dean!! Greets to one and all.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:03pm Gary:

We might go to the one in Chelsea, though. It's got bigger aisles. Dean, that sounds like the one on 14 Street.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/5/14 12:03pm Uncle Michael:

Gary, can you pick me up some triple ginger cookies at TJ's?
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:04pm listener james from westwood:

I'm intensely spoiled; mine is right across the street. Friends often give me lists when they invite me over.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/5/14 12:04pm Uncle Michael:

More bagpipes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/5/14 12:04pm Artie:

Let's all open up come Dark Chocolate Sea Salted Almonds and settle in for a spell.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:04pm Gary:

Okay, taking orders now -- will look for cookies for UM
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:05pm Jeff Golick:

I'll be the a-hole hogging all of the nuts.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:05pm listener james from westwood:

UM: I'm a Sutter's Formula addict m'self.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:05pm Tony Coulter:

Uncle Michael!! Artie! Hola Cola to you both!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:06pm Gary:

Jeff I'm still thinking about that awesome cut-up of Louis Armstrong you played yesterday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/5/14 12:07pm Uncle Michael:

What is Sutter's Formula?
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:08pm Gary:

@Gary: hit me up if you'd like to hear the rest of that CD (www.discogs.com...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/5/14 12:11pm Uncle Michael:

I must try those.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:12pm holland oats:

Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:13pm Rich in Washington:

Greedings, Tony!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:13pm Tony Coulter:

Hey there, Holland O! It's me, the real TC -- or is it?
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:13pm Tony Coulter:

Heelo, Rich!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:14pm Doug Schulkind:

Speaking of Louis Armstrong, I will be doing a birthday tribute to his brother Neil on this evening's Give the Drummer Some.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:16pm listener james from westwood:

@UM: The Sutter's Formula TJ's cookies are peanut butter cookies w chocolate chips.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:18pm βrian:

Why buy cookies when you can bake them at home?
  Tue. 8/5/14 12:18pm MrFab:

Not only do I have that Christian Marclay album, as it appears to be out-of-print I was thinking of putting it up on my blog...
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:20pm Rich in Washington:

More Encore's is probably my all time favorite Marclay album.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:20pm DCE:

Tony!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:20pm Tony Coulter:

Hey there Georgy Fab and Georgy βrian!!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:20pm Doug Schulkind:

I hope Brother Cooper is listening in from Rome. He often is.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:21pm Tony Coulter:

Hola, DCE!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:22pm Rich in Washington:

Whoops! I apostrophied in my comment
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:22pm βrian:

Soggy skies over the isthmus, by the way.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:23pm Tony Coulter:

@ Rich: Apostrophe apostate!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:23pm βrian:

Un apostrophe, c'est un catastrophe !
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:24pm Gary:

Please do, Mr Fab!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:24pm Rich in Washington:

Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:24pm holland oats:

not convinced, "tony". that's what a bot would say.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:25pm Tony Coulter:

Meaningless apostrophes were the mid-'60s rock band equivalent of heavy metal umlauts -- they just looked cool.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:26pm βrian:

Now, there must be a band named the umlauts, I would guess. Akin to the Meat Oafs, maybe.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:26pm Rich in Washington:

Hey Tony Coulter and fellow Drummers.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:27pm Gary:

Just emailed you, Jeff!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:27pm Tony Coulter:

Greetings, doca!
  Tue. 8/5/14 12:27pm Dean:

My favorite Marclay album isn't a Marclay album. It's the Kronos Q.'s blitz through Zorn's Forbidden Fruit on Winter Was Hard. Works best if you play the vinyl version.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:28pm Tony Coulter:

First album from Linda Perhacs in ... 44 years!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:29pm Gary:

@βrian: I saw the Umlauts open for Diaeresis in 1986
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/5/14 12:29pm Uncle Michael:

Rich...I'm afraid the vandal stole the handle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/5/14 12:30pm doca:

Linda Perhacs belongs to that genre of unknown-at-their-time-singers-who-came-back-after-having-to-stop-their-careers-because-of-children-and-marriage
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/5/14 12:30pm Uncle Michael:

I'm being held hostage by a plumber.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:31pm DCE:

Linda still sounds good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/5/14 12:31pm doca:

That's a wonderful album, @DCE. It is like she hasn't stopped recording music.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:32pm βrian:

Circumflex is my personal favorite.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:32pm Doug Schulkind:

Linda Perhacs is a dental hygienist!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:32pm fred:

@βrian: It should be "une apostrophe" and "une catastrophe". French annoyingly insists on gendering everything, and these two were deemed female
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:34pm Gary:

Don't be so diacritical
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 8/5/14 12:35pm steve:

hey Tony and friends
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:36pm βrian:

Ouai. It just looks masculin to me. I'm chronically gender-deaf.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:37pm Tony Coulter:

Greetings, Steve and Fred!

The next time I need a teeth-cleaning I'm going to request Linda Perhacs.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:38pm βrian:

Dental fricatives add luster.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:39pm Jeff Golick:

I can recommend Hersh's memoir RAT GIRL.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:41pm fred:

I'm kinda fond of plosives myself. Diacritics are OK, it's the combining ones that drive me nuts
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:43pm βrian:

I just saw a partial differential with combining macron the other day. In the wild.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/5/14 12:43pm Artie:

@Rich: All dots indeed.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:44pm Gary:

I always wanted to read that, Jeff. I saw her band in 1987 or 88. The Pixies opened. At the Eye Beam in San Francisco. Kristen was so amazing, her head flipping side to side as she sang.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:44pm Gary:

Off to TJ's ... have a fab day everyone!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:46pm Tony Coulter:

Ciao, Gary! Off to TJ's in your PJ's for a B... (oh, never mind).
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:47pm fred:

Though combining diacritics are the only way I know to write the Spinal Tap umlaut (and of course I can't pull it off today)
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:47pm Tony Coulter:

@ Jeff: Thanks for the recommendation! I've been told I would really like the first Throwing Muses album. To this point it has eluded my ears.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:49pm V Priceless:

this is reel purdy soundin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 8/5/14 12:50pm steve:

i am loving this. is there a name for whatever genre this is?

Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:52pm Tony Coulter:

@ Steve: Not really, I don't think. Let's make one up!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:55pm listener james from westwood:

genre = Coultercore.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 8/5/14 12:56pm steve:

Postceltic (pronounced Po-Seltic) Zarpalism. swish.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 12:56pm Jeff Golick:

@Tony: have that 1st TM on vinyl; not so share-able at the mo. But agree that you would likely dig it.
  Tue. 8/5/14 1:05pm sue lloyd:

looking forward to 'Athletico Spizz 80' !!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 1:06pm Tony Coulter:

Hi Sue -- it'll be in the last hour of the show!
  Tue. 8/5/14 1:07pm sue lloyd:

fab! all from England!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 1:18pm Tony Coulter:

Oops -- I see I added an extra syllable to the title of that Donovan album during my mic breaks. Would help if I actually looked at the cover I guess.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 1:22pm Tony Coulter:

What Dolden's great at doing, methinks, is making dense collages that still sound structurally clear and uncluttered.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 1:23pm Tony Coulter:

But then again, maybe he's driven you all away.
  Tue. 8/5/14 1:31pm MrFab:

Hasn't driven me away, Tony! Atonal art noise makes me whistle while I work.
  Tue. 8/5/14 1:32pm Dean:

Sounds a bit like Yves Daoust's Musiques naïves: http://www.electrocd.com/en/cat/imed_9843/
  Tue. 8/5/14 1:33pm Dean:

The Dolden, I mean. This sounds like Satie played on an organ.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 1:34pm Tony Coulter:

I like that Daoust a lot too!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 1:35pm Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: Satie wrote if for organ! One of the few times (the only time?) he did that.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 1:39pm Rich in Washington:

This is loverly...
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 1:48pm listener james from westwood:

Not driven away, not by a damn sight. Satie draws me in! Had 2 phone calls, incl. one with Dad re: the latest turbulence at the Elks. It's better than a soap opera, that bunch.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 1:52pm Rich in Washington:

I had no idea Satie did any organ compositions. That's a gorgeous sounding thing. I need to track that down. I also love Gorecki. I have been pronouncing his name incorrectly all these years, it seems.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 1:53pm Tony Coulter:

@ James: The Elks are always butting horns?
  Tue. 8/5/14 1:53pm Dean:

I heard "siroccan roll." Hardly a difference.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:01pm listener james from westwood:

@Tony: It's like the old gag with these clownzos: "Why are there so many disputes in academia? Because the stakes are so low."
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:04pm Tony Coulter:

And now: a psychedelic song about reality! What a concept.
  Tue. 8/5/14 2:05pm Dean:

I keep waiting for Jazz Guitar for People Who Do Like Jazz Guitar.
  Tue. 8/5/14 2:10pm Dean:

Love 'em! Ethos!

See liartown for alternative Smashing Pumpkins.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:11pm Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: Or maybe "Jazz Guitar for People Who Hate Liver"?
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:13pm Jeff Golick:

@Dean: people like jazz guitar?
  Tue. 8/5/14 2:15pm Dean:

@JG: Back in high school, a couple people did, yeah.

Dictators!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:15pm Kurt Rosenwinkel:

Who likes people?!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:16pm Rich in Washington:

God! I used to have this album on 8-track and proceeded to destroy my eardrums with it.
  Tue. 8/5/14 2:17pm Dean:

Barbra Streisand?
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:18pm Rich in Washington:

Yes. That too.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:18pm Jeff Golick:

@Dean: liartown = the greatest thing in the history of humanity, ever.
  Tue. 8/5/14 2:19pm Dean:

@JG: Now that you put it that way, yes, I think you're right.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:22pm northguineahills:

I hear a weed wacker outside my window.

Thanks for the nice dream fodder.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:24pm Tony Coulter:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/5/14 2:27pm Michael:

Haven't heard them in ages - or any of the Spizzes for that matter.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:28pm Tony Coulter:

Hola, Spizz Michael!
  Tue. 8/5/14 2:29pm Dean:

This has to be Stranglers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/5/14 2:32pm Ike:

I don't know about youse guys, but I couldn't hear the lawnmower(s). Oh, and welcome back Tony!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/5/14 2:32pm Michael:

'ello TC. Great show. A'workin' and a'listenin'
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:34pm Tony Coulter:

Hey Ike! Thankfully the mowing stopped soon after I mentioned it. Background noise always sounds louder in my headphones anyway, I think.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:39pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Tony, you promised this would be horrible, and you're failing us!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:40pm Tony Coulter:

So sorry, Kenzo!!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:41pm Tony Coulter:

... and great greasy greetings!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 8/5/14 2:42pm steve:

background noise/noise floor is virtually always more noticeable on headphones, vs speakers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 8/5/14 2:42pm steve:

hi Kenzo!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:42pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Lawnmowers, children, doorbells...what else are the special distractions that only affect home DJ's?
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:43pm Tony Coulter:

Cats!
  Tue. 8/5/14 2:43pm Dean:

Dogs, traveling sales(wo)men, tornadoes, exploding washing machines...

@Kenzo: Pets!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:48pm Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: ... and half a dozen of the other.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:50pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Fish?
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:51pm Tony Coulter:

Oh man -- the fish are the worst. They keep flying through the window when I'm on mic.
  Tue. 8/5/14 2:52pm Dean:

Comme ci, comme ça.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:53pm northguineahills:

Outside of the time I had someone using a rotary saw in the studio next to the one I was broadcasting from, the most common distraction is spilled beer, usually not mine, usually.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:55pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Has anyone in the room NOT done a radio show? If so, were you just waiting until you have some pets?
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:56pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks for showing up, everybody!! See you next week.
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:56pm listener james from westwood:

I was on one, but I've never done one. As a kid, though, I recorded on my tape deck an epically tasteless ad for an album of "The Elephant Man's Greatest Hits," though.
Sweet sweet show, Tony! Thanks a ton!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:58pm northguineahills:

Another classic Tony, thanks!
Avatar Tue. 8/5/14 2:59pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks, Tony! Fab show!
