Not sure!
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 12:53pm Tony Coulter:

So, I've sort of messed with the packaging of this cassette. It came loose in a stripey bag. I folded said bag and made it into a j-card-ish insert.

Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:03pm listener james from westwood:

Enjoying this trippy Geese business!
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:04pm northguineahills:

My fire escape garden has been invaded by a pair of squirrels lately. This morning, they only left when I doused them w/ cups of water. They stripped all of my chilies (buried some in other planters, just dropped others when they realized they aren't tasty food). At least the birds I can scare away.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:05pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

NOT THE CHILIES!!!!
bastards..! This is WAR.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:07pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

YAY. THIS.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:07pm Doug Schulkind:

Loving this!
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:07pm DCE:

ngh will have a squirrel hat soon, I predict. And maybe some squirrel gumbo.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:09pm Tony Coulter:

Dougles! (rhymes with snuggles)
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:11pm Cecile:

ngh, the bunnies in our neighborhood are completely immune to hot peppers, it seems.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:13pm northguineahills:

I wouldn't mind as much if they actually ate them, but the bite into one a few times, and toss it grab another, and do the same thing.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:14pm northguineahills:

Never had this problem before. W/ the thrushes and morning doves, it's hard to grow anything this year. Usually I just have aphids and scales, not a problem this year.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:19pm Tony Coulter:

I have gotten a few poblanos but zilch from my Vietnamese hot pepper plant thus far
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:21pm Jeff Golick:

dirty sweet.
  Tue. 8/12/14 1:21pm Marked Bolan:

I'm rolling over now!
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:27pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

So much of this era was fed by cassette-recording answering machines. So much great material was scored via wrong-numbers that left confused messages, or tapes left in machines donated to thrift-stores... Great stuff.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:31pm listener james from westwood:

Turnip, were you an FMU listener when the Professor was running the Audio Kitchen show? He'd play all manner of found sound, be they mass purchases of C60s at thrift stores, tape letters or kids horsing around, or scavenged answering machine/voice mail messages. wfmu.org... is where you'll find 'em.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:32pm northguineahills:

The squirrels also knocked my habaneros off the fire escape, and they weren't even fruiting yet. Only saved one, but the trauma set back it's development about a month. Thank ye gods that I've already harvested over a dozen jalapenos. Doesn't look I'll have poblanos this year, but the tomatoes should be fine if the squirrels don't get to that. Trying rainbow chard this year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/12/14 1:35pm Carmichael:

Hi Tony and listeners. Been a while.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:35pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:36pm Tony Coulter:

Nice to see ya, Carmichael-san!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/12/14 1:38pm Carmichael:

Tony, we managed to make the last day of the Rose Festival. Stayed at the hotel directly across the street, and walked up to voodoo donuts. No time for record shopping, though.

Many thanks Carmichael...
HOWARD BE THY NAME is the greatest name ever.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:48pm Cecile:

hey, Tony, what is the most rare and sought after cassette you've encountered?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/12/14 1:49pm Carmichael:

Hey there DCE, been fighting the IT man. I managed to finnagle a way through the semiconductors back to FMU. Today's my birthday, so I'm just kickin' it at work.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:51pm Tony Coulter:

@ Cecile: That's tricky -- rare and sought after don't always overlap. There were fewer than 10 copies made of the Bomis Prendin cassette I aired a while back. So that's a possible candidate....
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:52pm Cecile:

What's the one thing that is rare and people actually want most in your experience?
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:53pm DCE:

@ Carmichael, happy birthday and keep fighting the good fight!
  Tue. 8/12/14 1:53pm Dean:

@Cecile and TC: I'll answer that. It's a well-salted Porterhouse.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:54pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:55pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:57pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Kenzoesque™
...could be the name of a most confusing cologne..
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:57pm Tony Coulter:

Hey Dean!

@ Cecile: It really is hard for me to say. There are cassettes that sell for hundreds of dollars. I have some of them. Can't think of one that's "most wanted."
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 1:59pm DCE:

I'd slather that, RTD!
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:06pm Cecile:

Oh, ok, I just wondered if there was some kind of "holy grail" cassette people were after.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:10pm Tony Coulter:

Well, I see this AC/DC cassette sold for almost $3,500: www.popsike.com...
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:14pm glenn:

one hates to use the term "he has more money than brains"........but i will.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:14pm Cecile:

that is rare, but it's not like the music never came out or anything...
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:14pm Tony Coulter:

Ha! Hey, Glenn!

this is really cool release, tony.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:16pm Cecile:

a really cool release, I mean. der.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:16pm Tony Coulter:

Glad you like it!
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:18pm glenn:

it's like in the documentary, vinyl. there are guys out there who will spend 5,000$ on a record, and then can't afford a new roof for their house, and then can't seem to figure out the common denominator.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:21pm Tony Coulter:

Of course, you could make a new roof out of vinyl (vinyl siding).
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:22pm glenn:

you know, that's actually not a bad idea.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:23pm βrian:

Would a 10-year old kid recognize the sound of a film projector? 15?
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:24pm βrian:

That's only if you live in Vinylstan. I steer clear of that territory.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:26pm glenn:

they're waterproof, and they have a nailing hole in the centre. for the caps, you could just bend them with a heat gun. voila! a new roof.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/12/14 2:27pm Andrew Waterloo:

I can understand the AC/DC thing if you're a completist with a bit of extra money and AC/DC is basically the only band whose music you buy. But for me, for ever record that I can pay big money for there are 12 others I'd like to hear.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:30pm glenn:

holy fuck! it's been done. by neil young!
www.huffingtonpost.ca...
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:30pm Tony Coulter:

Hey Andrew!

Given the choice between one $50 record and one hundred 50-cent ones, I generally opt for the latter. Probably should stop doing that.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:31pm Tony Coulter:

@ Glenn! Wow! Wadya know...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/12/14 2:34pm Andrew Waterloo:

@Tony, I'm the same. Especially since you don't have to pay the big bucks just to hear something now a days.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:34pm listener james from westwood:

Chico! Groucho!
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:35pm listener james from westwood:

And Harpo!
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:38pm northguineahills:

I may collect musical media, but I'm not a collector. I buy musical media to listen to it, don't care about the monetary value. That said, I do have quite a few records (and some cassettes) that are worth something, but many of them I've played or scratched to death. (even when bought in near-mint condition).
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:38pm listener james from westwood:

(Unheard from: Zeppo, Gummo, Bongo, Bilbo, Sneezy.)
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:39pm Cecile:

yup, andrew. The most I would pay for a out of print collector album (except for a very few cases) would be the price of a new CD at the time.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:39pm Cecile:

So, if it was something I was absolutely crazy about I'd pay $12-20 (sale U.S. CD price - sale import CD price).
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:40pm Tony Coulter:

Nowadays, vinyl and CDs have switched places. It's often cheaper to get something on CD, especially used.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:41pm Cecile:

Exactly. The day of the GOOD $1 CD is here.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:41pm Tony Coulter:

The Beefheartish / Bruce Hampton-ish vocalist here is Han Buhrs.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:45pm βrian:

Damn, ça me donne des frissons.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:53pm βrian:

That would be $81,000 in today's dollars. A pretty price for a stone bird.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:55pm northguineahills:

Thanks Tony, awesome stuff!
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:56pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks everybody! See you next time....
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 2:58pm listener james from westwood:

Helluva sampler today! Glad I was here to hear. Thanks!!
