I'm really glad I got to see the reformed Stooges at Pine Knob outside of Detroit. It was one of their first US reunion shows. The show originally was going to happen on the day of the huge Eastern Seaboard blackout. The joke was that the Stooges blew the fuse during their sound check.

Thanks Fabio! Thank you Scott Asheton for it all. The Stooges were the first band I ever saw, in 1969 their NY debut (with the MC5 and David Peel) Words still can't describe it, but it blew my mind and changed my life forever. I was 16 years old.

Someone (Kenny G.?) once played different takes of "T.V. Eye" for an hour. (Or three hours?) I'm still kinda traumatized by that. Much better than any trendy top-40 stunting though.

Thanks Fabio for starting your show with tribute to Scott Asheton. I weaned my rock and roll memories seeing the Stooges and MC5 play in Detroit in the late 60's and early 70's. Scott was the driving rhythmic force behind the Stooges relentless pre-punk sounds, seeing them was like stepping into a space ship and landing on planet Punk when everyone else was doing the Hippy Dance Love In, totally unreal and unrelenting, something visceral which hit you right down to the center of your bones, bodily fluids and soul, leaving you a totally person then the one who entered the concert hall!!!!

i saw the stooges for the first time at Little Stevens Underground Fest at Randall's Island. The day was filled with a slew of great bands, but when The Stooges came on I completely forgot about what I had seen and realized I was seeing one of the greatest rock n roll bands ever....and i was there. They exceeded all expectations.

Ubu! Great track!
Avatar    Thu. 3/20/14 3:47pm Greg from VA:

Coelacanth, I think the Stooges were innovators in term of stripping rock and roll down to it's essentials, then adding a raw emotional energy that others were not yet showing on stage, Iggy wriggling on the floor, tearing off his cloths, cutting himself, jumping into the audience, getting into fights, climbing into the balcony, all the while the band played on,... so in that sense, they were a little ahead of their time.

Avatar    Thu. 3/20/14 4:02pm V Priceless:

Ubu were (and still are) a great live rock & roll band! DT only remaining original member, but the original band that recorded "Modern Dance" are still around in some way, shape or form doing other stuff.
Avatar Thu. 3/20/14 4:04pm tim from champaign:

Here's some suggestions for a Fred Phelps tribute: "Satan Is Real", "It's Raining Men" and "I'm at the Bookstore" by the Dicks.

DCE yes true, for a long time...But for the last few years i don't think people took him very seriously.
...I know, when they protested MY town,"we"(i wasn't there) just laughed at them. They left quite unfulfilled.
Avatar Thu. 3/20/14 4:11pm mariano:

Fred Phelps tribute you say?!? Lots of Queen, of course, Village People, Communards, Bronski Beat, The Homosexuals, Homo Picnic (if just for the names), and, to include female groups, Tribe 8, Bikini Kill, Seven Year Bitch... though for some reason Phelps had it in for "fags," don't recall seeing lotsa "God Hates Dykes" signs, though I could be wrong, I'm sure he hated them all.
Avatar    Thu. 3/20/14 4:15pm cklequ:

I think pretty much everything WFMU plays is a Fred Phelps tribute. Except maybe a choice few songs on Sinner's Crossroads (but even that might be a stretch).

That guy hated everybody

Avatar Thu. 3/20/14 4:17pm tim from champaign:

I have to wonder if Phelps was closeted himself. One can't spew that much hate without having a lot of internal hate. Hopefully, no one in his group will take up his baton.

Agreed, cklequ. FMU is everything that morons like Phelps are against. FMU is still standing and he's not.

Can you imagine the cheerleaders at Einsturzende Neubaten University?
Avatar Thu. 3/20/14 5:45pm tim from champaign:

Or maybe it was Doug Henning? I get those guys confused.

Fabio is to David Copperfield as Clay Pigeon is to Doug Henning.

Some guys from Munchen told me that the proper translation for Einsturzende would be "Destroying new buildings from within"
Avatar    Thu. 3/20/14 5:56pm coelacanth:

There's a version of "ich bins" on boobtube by a 3-piece child band. It's interesting.
