Avatar 3:22pm

Fabio, do you have a good Lou story for us?
Avatar 3:23pm
Cecile:

I don't know to feel good or bad that Lou Reed's album sales went up 700% after his passing.
Avatar 3:24pm

man, I was impatiently waiting for this page to appear so I could say THANKS for playing "Ocean." Love it!

I thought I had all the Lou records I needed but then I heard The Bells. That will be the last Lou record in my collection. Honest.

they are so ON, they are in synch.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm

I don't think I EVER heard VU until I came to NJ and started listening to FMU in the early 90s. But of course, I already knew many of VU's descendents.
Avatar 3:32pm
Cecile:

yeah. I made fun of him at times, but some of my very favorite stuff is from the Velvets/Lou Reed.
Avatar 3:32pm
Cheri Pi:

best picks ever!
Avatar 3:33pm
Cecile:

WCBN in A2 turned me on to them.
Those records were SO beat up in the studio by the time I got there to DJ.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm
Rich in Washington:

this is great, Fabio. Thanks.
For some reason, listening to solo Lou didn't do it to me this week quite like listening to the Velvets, especially What Goes On. I just fucking lost it listening on my way to work Monday.
Avatar 3:34pm
kirk from beer city usa:

Cecile, are you from MI?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm

Oh man, The Gift is my favorite Lou solo song.
Avatar 3:35pm
slugluv1313:

excellent Fabio story, for which i am grateful to this day: one day i came home from a REALLY crappy day at work -- Fabio's show just came on the air (maybe you were doing an evening show then??) and he opens with ONE WHOLE SIDE of "Metal Machine Music" -- it was SO perfect, so SOOTHING!!! just what the proverbial "doctor" ordered (i think i even called you to THANK YOU, Fabio, it was THAT healing!!!)
Avatar 3:38pm
Cecile:

I am, kirk. Born and raised in Houghton, went to school in A2 and Marquette.

@ slugluv: I'll be playing some of that again in a bit.

I just realized that I shouldn't think of folks on this comment page as being in the vicinity of WFMU, duh. Cecile is a yooper! I was born and raised in GR. (once dated a girl from Gladstone, BTW)

Gladstone! hahahah
I had great college friends from GR.

kirk and Cecile, since you're all calling people out for fronting on where they're from I've got to confess that I grew up in Kentwood, not Grand Rapids. Hope you don't think anything less of me.
  3:56pm
Melinda:

yeah, it's moving to hear these songs, great selection Fabio. Lou was Lou, you kind of knew what to expect even if you didn't realize it. A very cool dude and great artist. I love that he ended up with a very intelligent and talented artist and woman.

Avatar 4:03pm

re: Lou's music in 50, 100 years and beyond -- i recall reading an interview in which he said how he ultimately wanted to create songs/music/etc. that were universal and would stand the test of time, and not just "stuck" in one era

PERFECT! do not think i have heard this Zeitkratzer version before!

Cecile, see if we have any extra copies of Kraut-Yoopernaught heavies Aphrodite's Polyp, Kirk could probably use a little pick-me-up.

Avatar 4:17pm

no. I think they are stil trying to wrap their heads around Dark Side of the Moon up there (and largely failing)
Avatar 4:20pm

Yoo betcha Kirk, the legendary-wicked influencial on the UP kraut rock scene Sherman Hemsley wrote that review for Da Wired. Wine vat? More like a Ram-Van isolation chamber! Sadly cecile speaks truth. there should be a small prison built on reclaime KOA land up there just to punish the Floyd-jackers

Mike Tyson was said to have said, something like: "Yeah, everybody's got a plan, until he gets hit in the face." I love that.

According to Proggers almanac you want to hunt defamed producers on either November: 21st, 22nd, or December: 19th, 20th. Don't even waste your BBs.

I carry a vial of simulated Keith Emerson urine in my hunting gear, it comes in handy during the peak of season when the Prog Producers are rutting and wandering the universities, uttering that haunting mating-cry that sounds a bit like a damaged Hammond B-3...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm
Andrew Waterloo:

In my area the popular hunting season is in late spring and late fall. It's for modern rock fans and it requires condensed Coors light and a sub machine gun.
Avatar 4:38pm
Cheri Pi:

Word to the wise there, you can't have too many padlocks on your sound labs this time of year, in a pinch you can always flush them out of the shrubbery using an old-fashioned mellotron-call just like grandpa used to do.
Avatar 4:40pm
Cecile:

Ghost pepper spray around the perimeter doesn't hurt, either.
Avatar 👻 4:41pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

Use a regular cotton pillow-case: flap it GENTLY to simulate the sound of Rick Wakeman's majestic flowing sleeves. Works in a pinch to lure them out into open space if synthetic Keith Pee isn't available.
  4:43pm
ScottC:

With the passing of Lou Reed - I think it will be one of those deals where as the years go by there will seem to be a bigger and bigger hole in the fabric. He was not the productive lately but it still leaves a big What If? I'll bet somebody is pitching a Biopic right this very second. Such an interesting life...

To ScottC:--biopic, yes. Hopefully it would be done tastefully. You know who might be good in that? That actor who reads The Raven on one of Lou's albums... great actor, in a lot of movies and part of an awesome theatre company. Laurie will surely stop any exploitive crap if she can.
