Avatar Fri. 9/13/13 4:05pm Caryn:

Dammit, missed an hour. I blame Friday the 13th bad luck.

Speaking of numbers, brief chuckle today when flight 666 arrived at Helsinki airport (IATA code: HEL) today. The only thing that would've made it better is if the plane had come from Singapore (from SIN to HEL).
Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:05pm Carmichael:

Is that really Chuck Negron? I just pulled that name outta my ass!
Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:05pm Kurt Gottschalk:

nope, not negron.
caryn, hilar.
Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:07pm fred:

@Caryn: that flight was chartered by prof. Dum Dum, but his battle attire got him held up by security. Hopefully next time won't be so close to 9/11
Avatar Fri. 9/13/13 4:09pm Caryn:

@fred: the common joke here seems to be that they should've gotten Bruce Dickinson to pilot the flight.
Avatar Fri. 9/13/13 4:10pm Caryn:

I'm gonna guess Yanni for the gif.

If that fails, James Taylor during a mustache phase.
Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:12pm Kurt Gottschalk:

caryn, i need a full name please.
Avatar Fri. 9/13/13 4:13pm northguineahills:

I saw that flight info today, Caryn. Those finny Finns!
Avatar Fri. 9/13/13 4:13pm Caryn:

Yiannis Hryssomallis, or if you prefer: Γιάννης Χρυσομάλλης
Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:14pm Kurt Gottschalk:

FOR THE WIN!
Avatar Fri. 9/13/13 4:15pm Caryn:

Yay! Ooh, that head shake and sweater kinda tipped it off. I'm just hoping this doesn't mean some Yanni is coming up during the show?
Avatar Fri. 9/13/13 4:18pm Caryn:

But Yanni does seem to be enjoying the sweet trumpet sounds...

Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:20pm Kurt Gottschalk:

no yanni on cue. my guess was someone from grand funk railroad!
Avatar Fri. 9/13/13 4:21pm unununun:

The new Mary Halvorson (first Septet) record is great! 'Illusionary Sea'.

As is the new Kayo Dot ('Hubardo), which I'm slightly surprised to find that nothing has been aired by anyone on WFMU from it, including the tracks that were available for streaming prior to and after it's release Aug. 30th.
Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:25pm common:

hey unununun, i love kayo dot. haven't heard the new one. one of my all-time favorite songs is pitcher of summer. good stuffs!
Avatar Fri. 9/13/13 4:25pm northguineahills:

Fred, you're a God! THANKS! merci!
Avatar Fri. 9/13/13 4:26pm Caryn:

@Kurt: I think we're all thankful for no Yanni on cue. Seriously, had to go to google to get his full name, and google offers for "other searches made by people who searched for Yanni": Enya, Vangelis, Kenny G and Richard Clayderman. Oy. Although I suspect Ken could make an entertaining and terrifying feature for his show based on these google searches: google a performer and then play them and the 4-5 other names that are offered by google to accompany the name.
Avatar Fri. 9/13/13 4:26pm northguineahills:

I'm already going to a MacAllen tasting on the 27th!
Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:28pm Mike East:

holy crap, fred, I wanna go to that. Anybody wanna babysit for me?
Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:30pm Stanley:

@fred and northguineahills. That does it. I'm reaching for my bottlle of 14 yr old single cask Bowmore as I type. (Was saving for a special day but hell, isn't today good enough?)
Avatar Fri. 9/13/13 4:33pm Caryn:

I'll forgo whisk(e)y in favour of some apple soda and OD'ing on birch sugar & tar candy.
Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:33pm fred:

@Caryn: the guy in charge of sales at work has been a recidivist collaborator of Vangelis. Saying that name within his earshot gets you a mandatory minimum sentence of one hour of dreadful stories about that guy and how the olympics made him rich enough to bail out Greece, though he won't
Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:34pm Carmichael:

I'm hitting the boozer in about 90 minutes. Cold cold IPA ....
Avatar Fri. 9/13/13 4:34pm unununun:

Although, I did catch Jesse Krakow talking about KD on this Monday's Minor Music just as I was tuning in. And he mentioned their show tomorrow night at the Bowery Electric (I live in Milwaukee, otherwise I'd definitely be there). But he's friends with Toby Driver, Keith Abrams, etc.

Common: I was introduced to Kayo Dot & maudlin of the Well in 2008. I've been a huge fan ever since. Choirs of the Eye is a great album, 'Pitcher of Summer' was one of the more immediate songs to hit me when being introduced to their work.

I had to gather some funds in order to get the deluxe package of 'Hubardo'. Very pleased that I could.

That Peter Evans piece was nice.
Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:35pm Carmichael:

Martin Short does a great over the top version of Luck Be a Lady.
Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:35pm common:

i would love to see them live, unununun
Avatar Fri. 9/13/13 4:35pm Caryn:

@Carmichael: Martin Short does a great over the top version of everything!
Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:39pm Carmichael:

I'm gonna have to get Suppaphon! This actually sounds kitschier than the original (no small feat).
Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:39pm fred:

Wow, that's a fantastic cover
Avatar Fri. 9/13/13 4:42pm northguineahills:

darn, the laphroiag tasting doesn't have a registration or a location of the event.
Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:43pm Kurt Gottschalk:

Suppaphon was the gov't label in Czechoslovakia. Pretty much everything was released on it.
Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:44pm common:

i can almost taste the beersies.
Avatar Fri. 9/13/13 4:46pm Caryn:

This reminds me, can't wait until Monday, when I go pick up a package that's arrived at the post office. I suspect it is my Marathon swag. (At least I damn hope it is...)
Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:49pm dc phucksorry:

I can almost taste the leek and potato soupsies...
Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:49pm Stanley:

@ ngh - I visited the Laphroaig distillery when i was on a golf trip to the Hebrides. The gimmick was by signing up as a 'Friend of Laphroaig' you actually got given one square foot of land (peat bog actually), with legal title as the owner and all, and the rent was a nip of whisky per year. Catch was that you had to visit the distilery to collect your 'rent'.
Avatar Fri. 9/13/13 4:50pm northguineahills:

Sounds great, Stanley. I'll keep that in mind the next time I'm in Scotland.
Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:51pm Stanley:

@ngh - look me up if you ever get over here.
Avatar Fri. 9/13/13 4:53pm northguineahills:

I was last there in '93 when I was 17.
Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:54pm Stanley:

Well overdue for another visit
Avatar    Fri. 9/13/13 4:56pm fred:

@ngh: I haven't seen a place either, but I guess there will be local events around that date.

You can sign up and get your plot with the card that comes with every bottle of Laphroaig. I never did, but a friend did that and got enough points to get some goodies and taunt me about it
Avatar Fri. 9/13/13 4:58pm northguineahills:
