Woah, I played w/ Joana Sa back in 2005. At that time, she had a solar powered doohickey amongst other instruments. It was myself, her, Toshio Kajiwara, and o.blaat.

Might have to listen on my phone, as I'm running out of things to do, and no one from my dept is still in the office to notice if I put my 8 hours in or not. I can probably BS around the office for quite a while.

Kristen:

I tuned in while I was doing some work around the house and heard The set starting with Duke Ellington's Caravan to Sophisticated Lady. It can't even begin to describe how good it made me feel hearing those tunes. Thanks for playing beautiful, eclectic music consistently, wfmu!

ngh, I may be in the same position as you next Monday. My IT folks announced "enhanced network security settings" beginning July 1st. I'll have to test their blocking abilities.

I actually am now able to use the popup stream, I had to wait for all of my permissions to go through the IT dept, which happened about an hour ago.

Three words, people: "TSA Security Theatre"

I'm struggling right now with a new add-on employer whose IT people think it more secure to make me log out from all my other four Outlook work accounts in order to be able to log on to theirs and check email there, then log everything else back in again. None of the other Outlooks I have are login-incompatible with each other. It's a dumbfuck pseudo-security feature at the one place.
Avatar 4:30pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

afraid the rest of the best of the arbors doesn't quite hold up to that tune, tho.
Avatar 4:31pm

Hey, I noticed the hearts are now complete, as they were cut in half lengthwise previously. I wonder if that was intentional?

Mungo Jerry! When this 1st came out, summer '70, I was driving to Cincinnati, along the Ohio R., the looong way Mungo Jerry played the AM airwaves like forever, man!
Avatar 4:40pm
northguineahills:

woah, that was an awesome Prince track! Never heard it!
Avatar 4:41pm
Carmichael:

I'm just guessing that Prince doesn't spend his summers at the beach. However, he does like the snow. He's the face down body they find at the beginning of Fargo, according to the credits.
  4:43pm
ian:

ahh. well try listening to just one channel, the stereo separation is extreme on those vocals. I thought it was one of those WFMU thaaangs like the dude who plays 45s at 33. Just hearing every other line gives it a more avant garde feel.
Avatar 4:45pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

the story with prince's symbol in the credits to fargo is they needed a body in the snow and so they used a tech guy but then he was union so they couldn't use his name. they asked him if he had a pseudonym he wanted to use and he said he wanted to be the prince symbol.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm
Mike East:

@ian - the stereo mixing is excellent on that song. I took note.

No kidding, Kurt? A story within a story. Those pesky unions are so strong, they can influence movie credits.

I starred the Fiery Furnaces. Finger-poppin' coolness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm
Mike East:

@w41 - good luck! I replaced the habit with chewing gum. I've even got a brand I stick to. Much healthier, much much cheaper!
Avatar 4:56pm
northguineahills:

I replaced smoking cigarettes w/ drinking beer. I quit 15 years ago. Although, now, I'll have a cigarette or two per month , by bumming off one of my friends while drinking. I spent four years of not touching tobacco after quiting before having a social cigarette.

Mike, thank you. As Mark Twain said, quitting is the easiest thing in the world to do :)
Avatar 5:04pm
northguineahills:

Well, there's douchey corporate bar at the bottom floor of my office building, but if I walk 9 minutes, I can make it to Hank's Saloon, where the drinks are cheap, they play good music, and the sexagenarian bartendresses are sassy and fun to talk to. oh, the beer is cheap, and I get a buy back every 2 or three drinks. Unfortunately, it's closing in December, the last of the old bars in downtown Brooklyn.

Uhmm, I'm playing a recorder mouthpiece in a bowl of water, as well using said bowl as precussion, and field recordings. () (jeremy slater) did table top bass guitar and field recordings and electronics. I'd credit every one else but, my browser at work won't open the page w/ the info.
