Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

The Oblivians  Live in the WFMU Studio   Options Engineered by Juan Aboites    They've been off record since 1997, but the kings of Memphis soul-punk have returned to heap another tinnitus-inducing set of songs on the unsuspecting public. Despite a few reunion gigs over the years, The Oblivians had yet to record a new album, but that's all changed with "Desperation" out on In the Red Records. Ripped on to Dan Auerbach's Skully 8-track tape machine in Nashville, the band's no-fi live sound preserved for another go-around, and they're touring as well! Join Greg, Jack, and Eric for a blowout on Brian's show, and New Yorkers can catch them live August 16th at the Bell House. Oblivians used our Fender Bassmen a few weeks ago...or atleast I hope they did...we had to rush a couple new ones down there cuz of some blown fuses.

@Cheri: What do you need stapler for, Cheri?
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 3:20pm Chris from DC:

Oh Capt. Beyond, clicky star there.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 3:21pm Cheri Pi:

Staplers are good to have on hand if you find yourself rocking out alone in your cubicle- no pit to mosh in, no "mother' to tear down. bang on a stapler- it's a serviceable substitute. HAhahaahaha BT....

Ooh! The new Black Sabbath sounds great.

Nice work NGH. I passed my coworker outside as he was walking back from lunch, he waved at me with his bottle of Ghostpepper sauce that was in his pocket.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 3:41pm northguineahills:

My favorite (ghost pepper sauce) one I have is Bigfat's 808. It's smoky and has almost a steak sauce tinge to it. Once you work up your tolerance, it's really tasty.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 3:42pm tim from champaign:

Smithsonian magazine has a good article on chiles from Nagaland, India (ghostpepper country). www.smithsonianmag.com...

- between habaneros & pepperspray
...w/ DirtyBreed, we might need pepperspray...
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 3:53pm tim from champaign:

I bet ghostpepper sauce would be good in chilquiles.
  Tue. 6/18/13 3:56pm black gladiator:

Fadensonnen - is this the thing with the K-Tel shouts in it? FUCKING GNARLY.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 3:58pm northguineahills:

The naga jolokia has a really great flavor for a chili, unfortunately it's so damn hot, it takes awhile to build up a tolerance to enjoy it. I use on a handful of drops at a time. And, it's not for all of my hot sauce needs.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:00pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- also called the Bhut Jolokia, the ghost pepper is the Butt of many Jokes...
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:02pm Cheri Pi:

**sQUEEE!*

I'm a cholula man, myself. Not that hot, but I like the flavor.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:04pm pat from the district of columbia:

i listened to half this song without realizing it was New Rose....
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:05pm Carmichael:

Some a-hole is currently trying to morph several peppers to make a hotter version than the 1 million Scoville unit ghost pepper. Why?
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:05pm pat from the district of columbia:

I use El Yucateca green, Tabasco, and Schriracha. All I need.

Right Carm, what's the point.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:07pm northguineahills:

It's already happened. It's some hybrid b/tn the naga and the trinidadian scorpian. I tried it, almost a chocolately flavor, but super intense heat. I only could manage 4mm diameter of the pepper at a time.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:08pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- like - let's eat some pepperspray...
- heard about a guy who's turning off the more recent genes in a chicken to get a dinosuar; reportedly already got a shorter tail w/ fewer feathers. When you get a threefoot chicken w/ teeth - you may need superhot pepperspray...
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:11pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...a *longer* tail...
  Tue. 6/18/13 4:13pm xezzy:

That's like subtractive synthesis of a dinosaur...
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:13pm Carmichael:

Mmmm, dinosaur ...
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:13pm Cheri Pi:

Plank!
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:15pm Mike East:

I bet fried dinosaur is delicious...especially with some hot sauce. finger lickin good.
  Tue. 6/18/13 4:16pm black gladiator:

you know why sriracha i so good? cuz it has lotsa SUGAR.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:16pm fleep:

It might require some tenderizing, dep. on the size. Use a big wood club.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:17pm Cheri Pi:

I know I always say this around this time, but I sure could go for a beersie right now!
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:17pm northguineahills:

Which is why sriracha makes me sick, all of the brown sugar. (my GI tract doesn't like sugar, my palette does, unfortunately.)

Just rubbed my eyes which reminded me that I was cutting habaneros earlier.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:19pm pat from the district of columbia:

well so does the Thai food I put the sriracha on top of..
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:19pm Cheri Pi:

My ghost-pepper coworker is making his own striacha soon, I'll update you NGH. we don;t like all the preservatives and what not in it-but it sure is delicious.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:20pm pat from the district of columbia:

beersie is better than hot sauce.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:20pm fleep:

Trader Joe's has its own sriracha now, which means we are at peak sriracha.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:21pm Cheri Pi:

OK I like CCR now.

Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:23pm Andrew Waterloo:

A glass of prune juice is also good for me
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:23pm Cheri Pi:

Beersies-Call the Police! P@-you call Stewart Copeland, I'll call Reggatta de Blanc.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:23pm Carmichael:

The more obscure the CCR, the better they are. The 1st 2 albums were great, despite the hits.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:24pm northguineahills:

I can't have hot sauces w/ preservatives, or odd artificial colors, they make me sick. Not sure why. If the hot sauces are 100% natural, then I can eat any amount.

Gonna get my beersies on for the US-Honduras game.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:24pm Cheri Pi:

Cecile & Hugo Burnham convinced me.

Sorry, I'm only good at East Asian, Mexican and Caribbean cuisine.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:26pm Cheri Pi:

OK-if you had to balance a canoe and Steven Wilson was on one end, and Rick Rubin was on the other, what fallen-from-grace producer would you put in the middle?
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:27pm Carmichael:

@Cheri: Mutt Lange.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:27pm Cheri Pi:

I wish this stapler could run down the pub and bring me a cold-onesie.
  Tue. 6/18/13 4:28pm phat:

Once again, I'm shown that I don't know enough CCR. Holy cow, that was fantastic.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:28pm Cheri Pi:

I'll have him investigated right away, you got any dirt on him Carms? He looks about the right size.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:36pm Mike East:

@Andrew Waterloo - good cheese and maybe some fruit on a plate...doesn't get simpler than that.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:37pm northguineahills:

I'll drink one for ya, Cheri. As I mentioned on Tony's show (i found out this afternoon), I actually finally got a job that starts Thursday. I just need to study before then, and have a few pints of the good stuff b/c I know I can now afford it.

that's great news NGH! I'll toast to your good fortune in about 45 minutes.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:39pm Carmichael:

@Cheri: He was big with AC/DC and some others in the prime time of rock. Now he produces Maroon 5 and Nickleback. Can't get much more fallen than that.
Avatar    Tue. 6/18/13 4:41pm Cheri Pi:

It looks like he may have overproduced Def Leppard also, OK I've got Sting's phone tree, I'm on hold.
