I wanted to sample cicadas, but they're just not very loud in my area. Bummer. I was gonna do a mix of John Secada singing with Cicadas.

@Kurt: It's a history of the song-poem industry that aired on PBS a few years back. You know, send us your lyrics and $200.00 and we'll record it for you and make you a star? Eskelin's dad Rodd Keith (Eskelin) was one of the most talented and prolific *translators* of customer material in the business. Very insightful, sad, and a very entertaining 56 minutes.

@Kurt: I really liked what little I heard of Rodd Keith's music. I know he used a mellotron on a lot of it, which was rare in the early 70s. I'll look up the CD you're referring to.

oh god north, don't ask...we've had some trashy people move in my place over the past year and some guy was going off on the two "slimer grannies" (after The Slime People film) sitting outside smoking cigarettes and being a pain in the arse.
  5:13pm
Scott B.:

I have an apt. complex full of morons! and slimers. Anyway, I need to get to Downtown Music Gallery again now it's down in Chinatown...anybody been there recently?

  5:16pm
Scott B.:

Yeah, North I know what you mean. My disposable income is limited at present esp. for expensive music, books etc. Nevermind that, I ripped this guy's bookstore in Bellmore a second one the other day on Yelp...total assclown. He wanted $700 for old issues of Crypt of Cthulhu mag.!!! 26 issues and not even early ones. What a putz. Such an obnoxious old man.

  5:18pm
Scott B.:

nah it's just some of the characters that have moved into my apt. complex the past year or two were such cretinous white trash (almost anyway) that i had to dub them The Slime People after one of my fave old SF movies. Two of them are like these old nasty ladies that sit there wearing shitty dirty sweats clothes whatever and chainsmoke all day long and do little else. Plus one of them granny of some obnoxious feckin little kid
skateboarding around and being a total nuisance.
  5:19pm
Scott B.:

I live in LI so it figures.

The Heavy Winged is brutal. Thanks.

let's put it this way: not reading books and i don't think the slime grannies are big Morton Feldman fans!
Avatar 5:20pm
northguineahills:

I grew up outside of Jacksonville, FL, I know the type.
  5:21pm
Scott B.:

The Slime People is that movie where the things with tritons come out of the Labrea LA hills and start killing humans and making a ruckus!
  5:21pm
Scott B.:

yeah they're like greasy grannies but the LI version!
Avatar 5:22pm
northguineahills:

Southern white trash only differ from northern white trash only by accent and amount of rebel flags.
Avatar 5:22pm
spodiodi:

Who doesn't love a good ruckus? Especially Labrea-style?
  5:23pm
Scott B.:

Some moronic neighbor told me one of the grannies the one watching the annoying little psycho kid on the skateboard are like mob types...i doubt it. If so, they are destitute mob types!
Avatar 5:24pm
spodiodi:

Southern white-trash are nicer, and cook better. Source: I've lived among trash all over the place.
  5:24pm
Scott B.:

especially when the slime people come out of the sewers and viaduct elevators and stab you with their triton!
Avatar 5:24pm
spodiodi:

Even mobbed up grannies like to be comfy.
  5:25pm
Scott B.:

they ain't like the Gottis over there in Old Westbury believe me! But they dress about the same, all told. oh and the kid and some cretin uncle were playing with like guns or pellet guns the other day!
Avatar 5:25pm
spodiodi:

Getting stabbed once with a triton, is like getting stabbed three times with a more ordinary weapon.
