Constant craving.

Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 3:10pm Mike East:

i've got a thai iced coffee myself. drunken noodles advertised as one pepper, and its about that.
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 3:11pm G:

Numbers of the form M_n = (2^n) - 1, without the primality requirement are called Mersenne numbers. Just thought you'd like to know :p
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 3:13pm Kurt Gottschalk:

good afternoon, everyone! thanks for tuning in.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 3:13pm Ike:

Mike East, you didn't get it from Wondee Siam at 53rd & 9th, did you?
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 3:14pm G:

is his klavier stuck?
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 3:16pm Mike East:

no, I go to Q2 thai - though some guys here order from wondee siam, I prefer Q2..on 9th and 53rd...you know, the thai district
  Fri. 6/7/13 3:20pm common:

goes well with The Prince.

17. Pixies –
Often intangible hedgehog. They are an evil fairy who likes to play with humans and other fairy nation. They also like to steal horses to ride.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 3:22pm Ike:

IDK about the quality of their take-out or standard Thai faves but Wondee has some excellent offbeat stuff on their "secret" menu including some amazing "salads." They don't make it spicy enough though.
  Fri. 6/7/13 3:25pm r i s k y:

YEAH KURT
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 3:25pm Mike East:

cool, Ike. I can only do delivery cuz they don't let me leave the building for lunch. How do you get their secret menu?
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 3:27pm still b/p:

I just played clips of the start of Bette's Midler's The Rose and then the start of Eric Carmen's All By Myself at the same time that the steady extended, um, motif was continuing here, and it was a silly kick but worth it.
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 3:28pm G:

Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 3:30pm Ike:

Just ask for it, Mike.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 3:31pm pat.dc:

I'm just starting to make Thai stuff at home. My first attempt was a simple peanut sauce for tofu dipping. Total fucking smash hit. My kids wanted it the next night as well.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 3:31pm pat.dc:

...the tofu was done with my secret marinade, then fried...
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 3:32pm Cheri Pi:

I make the best peanut sauce! I challenge you DCP. let li'l Fearghjal be the judge.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 3:33pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Kudos, DCPat. I haven't cooked that style before, until recently: went to (aforementioned) asian market in the suburbs & scored a huge tub of prik khing concentrate. Made a huge bathtub of spicy veg...... but man, I think it should've been diluted more. hoo-boy.

quoth Dallas: "that crap is gonna eat through the goddamned hull!"
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 3:35pm Mike East:

I've been gradually perfecting my thai red curry. Tuesday I hit a new plateau. I made it with tofu AND shrimp. numnum.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 3:36pm pat.dc:

yer on Pi! I also made inari for the first time the other day (tofu skin sushi). Kids loved that too.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 3:39pm Mike East:

ohh, i used to love inari. I'd gobble it up when I worked at the sushi restaurant. They paid me jack shit, but I made up for it by chowing down.
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 3:44pm northguineahills:

Man, I haven't made inari since junior high. I need to remember how I did that.
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 3:50pm northguineahills:

(I took a summer cooking class when I was a navy brat in Japan)
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 4:02pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

Done work now. Nice food topic posts. I am going to make some stir fried squids tonight.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:08pm Carmichael:

The honey in the rice is what makes the inari for me. My kids also love peanut sauce.

DC, do you really have a son named Feargal? Or was Cheri just stereotyping?

Hi Kurt!
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 4:11pm Caryn:

Trying to listen to the show, keep up with the posts, and figure out how my new phone works. Driving me nuts. Meant for business people. Soooo not for me, but got it for free, so have to try and get a handle on it.
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 4:15pm G:

Handle? Are you worried about dropping it in your annoyance?
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 4:18pm Caryn:

Possibly. More irritated by the fact that I can't even manage to send a damn text message, 80 % of my old texts have vanished, and I can't figure out what the SMS settings mean to figure out what's wrong. I will soon be close to throwing the thing across the room.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:20pm SeanG:

I like this song
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 4:21pm Andrew Waterloo:

You know you have a reputation when people giving you a funny look when a 'normal' song comes on.
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 4:21pm hamburger:

no wonder he only took a cig break for this
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:21pm Carmichael:

I'm too old to like this song.
  Fri. 6/7/13 4:21pm common:

ooof! glad i missed out on this one back then.
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 4:22pm Caryn:

@SeanG: me too. I also remember two things from the video: 1) her old piano is nice. 2) Vanessa Carlton has fantastic eyes.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:23pm Mike East:

this song is bringing back memories of being annoyed at having to listen to this song in a very specific context...I think when I worked at the sub shop.
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 4:23pm G:

@Caryn: that sounds more like "flying off the handle" :)
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:23pm Carmichael:

I'm too old to watch the video.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:24pm Cheri Pi:

what C-michael said.
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 4:24pm MD:

LONG LIVE WFMU!!!!!
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 4:25pm northguineahills:

Never heard of her, and usually have my ear to the rail on most things mainstream (hanging out at midtown bars after work will do that).
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:27pm Carmichael:

Speaking of which, NGH, are you gainfully employed at last?
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:33pm Cheri Pi:

Has anyone ever, or presently, loved/dated someone who listens to only "normal [top 40?]" music? Is there baggage that comes with it or can they be cool, ecept for their music tastes?
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:41pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

heavy question, CP.
Mrs.Druid was exclusively pop-country before I moved in with my record collection, reeking of devils and acid nightmares...
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:43pm Cheri Pi:

Yeah, as soon as I typed it I knew it was almost impossible to ask. Sounds like Mrs. T-nip is cool, or has a great personality etc. regardless, transcending it. yet-who are we to judge-yet who aren't we??
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:46pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

During early dating times, our classic quid-pro-quo was her taking me to see Charlie Daniels Band, and I took her to see Stereolab/Olivia Tremor Control. Both shows were the same week. Mid '90s, so it was peak Stereolab. Loud as hell. And she was still speaking to me afterwards... success!
Fri. 6/7/13 4:46pm The Little Prince:

But he signed the contract, and took the money
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:46pm Carmichael:

@Cheri: no, they can't. Run away and find someone with a FMU tee. Accept no substitutes.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:47pm Mike East:

my wife listens to some pretty mainstream music, but to her credit, she tolerates my weird music better than I tolerate her crappy top 40 stuff.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:48pm Ken From Hyde Park:

How does one participate in National Donut Day?
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:48pm Cheri Pi:

oh - you're crafty RTD, I remember that era well...Don't worry Carms-it hasn't happened yet, just wondering if I'm missing out on something. I'm "top-40" curious.
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 4:49pm Caryn:

@Ken: by going to get a free donut from one of the places you can get them.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:49pm Cheri Pi:

...but I could never listen to that shit so I'd probably piss them off, and rightly so.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:49pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Of course it makes for some really strange "fairness" playlists during long drives...
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:50pm Cheri Pi:

Funny doughnut day op-ed piece: www.foxnews.com...
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 4:50pm Caryn:

I guess most of my family listens to pretty "normal" music. I listen to it too. But then again, my idea of "normal" extends outside the top 40.
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 4:51pm Caryn:

@Ken & all other donut people: this might help: gma.yahoo.com...
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:52pm Mike East:

I maintain a pretty dictatorial control of the stereo
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:53pm Cheri Pi:

Fairness... I guess if I loved them I'd let them play their music in the car w/o making too many faces. But on the other hand, I could be a dick like ME- which is more like me anyway.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:55pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

but then I did infect her with a love of DECENT psytrance, so that's a victory. No waterboarding required.
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 4:56pm Caryn:

Ok, have managed to change the volume and ring tone. Still can't figure out the messages. Phone is still at risk of being thrown at the wall, but a little less so.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:56pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

and after 14 years, she even claims to dig Druid-made noise. The odds against this were beyond beyond.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:58pm Cheri Pi:

well look at the time, it's 3 before BEERSIES! happy pierogi-dogs this weekend to everyone!
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 4:58pm chris:

Sounds like mix-master Mike.... could it be?
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 5:00pm Carmichael:

Mrs. Carmichael and the teenage Carmichaels listen to Top 40 noise. I came with a Top 40 muting circuit built-in. Reciting the song lyrics as deep spoken word poetry usually clues them in that I hate it. And that I'm an asshole.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 5:01pm chris:

According to this: princevault.com... Prince was on the decks...
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 5:01pm chris:

@Carmichael - nice!
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 5:33pm davex:

Evening all, I hear funky pop and poppy funk.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 5:35pm Mike East:

btw, djkg - loving the Prince party!
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 5:35pm Caryn:

Dammit, how did I miss the news that Esther Williams died? Aww...
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 5:38pm Carmichael:

I didn't realize this show was a rerun. I should pay closer attention. No wonder Kurt hasn't said anything ...
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 5:39pm Mike East:

oh shit...morris county? my cars parked in a flood prone area. yikes.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 5:40pm davex:

How is this a rerun? It is Prince's birthday, isn't it?
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 5:41pm Mike East:

yeah...also the flash flood warning seems very current.
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 5:41pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

No Batdance?
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 5:42pm davex:

Flooding seems to be a global problem at the moment - big problem here, anyway. Everyone stay safe!
Avatar Fri. 6/7/13 5:51pm G:

it's pouring in brooklyn. i got soaked on a five minute walk.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 5:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

*Rev.TD* shacked up w/ a MusicalDullNormal - ?!?!
- Wow.
...I try listening to Mainstream - like the PopCountry that is *rampant* here in smalltown NewHampshire - & @ 1st think some has virtues - but after a fraction of an hour it is *literally* unbearable.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 5:51pm Carmichael:

Shit. See? I'm not paying attention. I thought it was August already.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 5:52pm Carmichael:

It is 100 degrees here, and dry as a bone.
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 5:53pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Geminis...when discussing, must specify which of the three of the individual your are talking about...
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 5:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- certainly versatile tho'!, them ♊s...
Avatar    Fri. 6/7/13 5:57pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:
