I've really got a feeling for Secret Affairs' My World.
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 12:18pm Carmichael:

Sweet Little Lisa is the real capper on this album.
Avatar Wed. 6/5/13 12:18pm G:

I used to see those blue with columns paper coffee cups from Manhattan "Greek"and other delis all the time in the 80s and maybe 90s. Are they still in use?
Avatar Wed. 6/5/13 12:19pm joe:

@ Carmichael en.wikipedia.org... you can actually get ceramic ones now
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 12:19pm Rich in Washington:

Dave Edmunds writes the catchiest pop songs ever.
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 12:19pm Uncle Michael:

Sweet Little Lisa owes it all to Albert Lee.
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 12:20pm Uncle Michael:

Elvis Costello wrote that!
Avatar Wed. 6/5/13 12:21pm joe:

Not really sure if they are still out there. According to the wiki entry Solo now owns the trademark on them.
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 12:21pm Amanda:

I'm charmed that you guys are discussing the "We are happy to serve you" cups. I loved that article they put out when the designer passed away...
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 12:21pm listener james from westwood:

G: I believe they still are in use.
C: The designer of the Anthora cup got a good writeup here: www.nytimes.com...
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 12:22pm Carmichael:

Interesting, thanks. I had never seen nor heard of them before.
Avatar Wed. 6/5/13 12:22pm G:

Coffee now comes so upsized many places that size cup would not work for most people. I suppose they could upsize the cup. But it's just another example of (as the ancient Greeks would say) panta rhei -- all things flow/pass/change/disappear. you can't step into the same river of coffee twice.
Avatar Wed. 6/5/13 12:23pm G:

The wiki article seemed to say the sale per year of it are way down from the 90s...
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 12:24pm Uncle Michael:

The cup peaked during the NYPD Blue era...no doubt.
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 12:25pm listener james from westwood:

with its recent appearance in a popular cable drama, sales might ... perk up.
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 12:27pm listener james from westwood:

during the 2000s, a coffee cart used to park down the block from the starbucks in the ground floor of my nyc office bldg. 75 cents a cup. huge line. still a market for affordable, human-sized portions.
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 12:27pm Uncle Michael:

I will return shortly.
Avatar Wed. 6/5/13 12:28pm joe:

Starbucks and Starbucks like places put the knife in the heart of the cup as it killed most of the corner deli cup of coffee buttered roll/bagel breakfast.
Avatar Wed. 6/5/13 12:30pm joe:

I grew up in the diner industry with my mom as a waitress in many diners in north eastern NJ so it's an image that sits very comfortably with me.
Avatar Wed. 6/5/13 12:30pm joe:

@james was just in the middle of reading that.
Avatar Wed. 6/5/13 12:32pm G:

He's goin' to Jackson, ever since the fire went out
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 12:32pm listener james from westwood:

i asked a former nj resident, visiting from new mex., if among the dinner options we had, she'd consider a diner. her face lit. up. she didn't find the diners out there to be the equal of those in this area. that goes double for the bagels.
Avatar Wed. 6/5/13 12:36pm G:

Many bagels here in NYC are actually too illegit not to quit any more. Without the boiling step, it's a muffin with a hole practically. Wrong crust.
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 12:47pm listener james from westwood:

a boss of mine used to bring in bagels every time she visited nj from the maryland office ... but she'd get panera. i volunteered one week to get bagels for her and brought in the real deal from a jernt that had been making them for 40+ years. she was converted on the spot.
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 12:49pm listener james from westwood:

(no slam intended on maryland and its own culinary achievements, of course ...)
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 12:50pm ndbob:

greetings Amanda and everyone!
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 12:51pm listener james from westwood:

howdy, ndbob!
Avatar Wed. 6/5/13 12:51pm G:

i have family near baltimore. maryland ≠ acme of bageldom. my family has me bring some down sometimes.
Avatar Wed. 6/5/13 12:51pm Doug Schulkind:

Oh I am so all over this Otis G. Johnson treasure!
Avatar Wed. 6/5/13 12:52pm G:

nyc ≠ acme of crabcakes and scrapple.
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 12:52pm Amanda:

It is amazing. From the new bin treasure chest!
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 12:56pm Brian in UK:

@Doug The Latin Playboys?
Avatar Wed. 6/5/13 12:57pm Doug Schulkind:

I miss the new bin something awful.

@Brian in UK
I hear what you hear in this that makes you think Latin Playboys!
Avatar Wed. 6/5/13 12:58pm G:

croon it, babee!
Avatar Wed. 6/5/13 1:01pm joe:

Anybody know what it was making the really "spooky" warbally sound near the beginning of the Bing song? Was it a muted clarinet or something?
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 1:07pm Uncle Michael:

We want digitimized new bin!
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 1:11pm Stanley:

Hi Amanda.
Hi All.
Brian - I think you've got a Red Sports Car.
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 1:13pm Amanda:

@joe -- I am not sure, but I am guessing too that it was a clarinet.
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 1:15pm Brian in UK:

Stanley Do not know what you mean!
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 1:16pm Brian in UK:

Got to get some tea on the go and apply myself to a beverage.
Avatar Wed. 6/5/13 1:18pm G:

he thinks the icon is your wheels. it's obviously your da's :p
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 1:18pm Brian in UK:

Amanda, is this GP the gatefold sleeve with the big straw baled load?
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 1:20pm Stanley:

This Gram Parsons track is one the most played songs in our house. I never tire of it.
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 1:21pm Amanda:

No gatefold, it is a reissue that I just got.
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 1:28pm listener james from westwood:

must descend into conference call perdition. lower a full anthora coffee cup at the hour mark if i don't re-emerge....
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 1:28pm ndbob:

a pre-JT version I'm pretty sure
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 1:29pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Hello Amanda & GTDSers. Just crossed over. Looks like I've been missing great stuff. Yeah! The GOOD Rush!
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 1:29pm Carmichael:

OK, back to the desk. That Leo Kottke album is probably the best of the bunch. He's a talented and kinda funny guy.
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 1:31pm Amanda:

Thanks for crossing the stream, Kevin!
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 1:33pm Brian in UK:

Avatar Wed. 6/5/13 1:48pm G:

Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 1:50pm Amanda:

We can do Fields of Dick as a singalong in the future, maybe?
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 1:52pm Amanda:

Eh, @G, it's always all over the place.
Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 1:54pm Carmichael:

Avatar    Wed. 6/5/13 1:55pm Uncle Michael:
