Greetings Dave and all the listeners |
![]() |
![]() "obvious whack job" -- I ride the 2 through Atlantic Avenue multiple times a week :) I would have never made eye contact with her, but I'm pretty cautious with train riders who do not act friendly :-) |

Sun. 4/7/13 9:58pm
Dave Mandl:
I never ever engage with crazy people on the subway. I can spot trouble a mile away. |
![]() |
![]() crazy angry person whose entire life is creating meaningless drama. my ex wife's mom used to claim men were always following her. trust me, they WEREN'T. she used to tell crazy stories about riding the subway, totally impossible stories about that the government had gotten Columbia to hire her to carry nuclear weapons on the subway for government tests etc etc etc you ran into the doppelganger of my ex-mother-in-law |
![]() |
Sun. 4/7/13 9:59pm
Droll:
[quick kitchen-lurking break] Anyway, I finally unbuttoned my shirt, and said, "look, look, I'm in this band, you know, I'm in this band you know, and we're makin' a recording, you know. It's about New York City, it's about crime in the streets. "The explanation was going nowhere, but, Finally, they just kinda let me go, I don't know why. So I walk around the corner, and I'm like shakin' like a leaf, and I thought, "This is a dangerous place" Who should appear, but two policeman. |

![]() You used to be able to do. Time to join me in Kansas. |
![]() |
Sun. 4/7/13 10:00pm
Dave Mandl:
This was strange because she seemed completely normal. She was kind of smirking and rolling her eyes as if *I* was some subway nut. I'd done absolutely nothing. |
![]() |
![]() OMFG Droll, what a power of association!!!! |
![]() |

G: Congratulations on your divorce. |
![]() |
![]() I gotta hear Thela Hun Ginjeet... |
Sun. 4/7/13 10:04pm
earrie:
Thinking, too -- asking a question is engaging -'what's your problem?'. Directives are better. "Please leave me alone." | |
![]() |
![]() Re divorce: We all have our weirdnesses and hard-to-live-with-nesses. I bear no grudges, and am still friends with my ex (dogsat for her for a week last month); ex-mom-in-law died in 2010. -- The issue with the divorce was not the mother in law, but not being loved. Not a tale for here and now. :) |

Richard from Venezuela:
I really like this album of a metal heavy jazz kind of thing. Available on Free Music Archive. Resistencia Chaco: goo.gl... |
![]() |
Sun. 4/7/13 10:06pm
Dave Mandl:
@earrie: I wouldn't say anything to a subway nut. They can push me very far and I won't react. This was somehow different. |
![]() |
![]() She gotcha, man. She probably does something like that several times a week, and is very good at getting around even our long-ingrained NYC subway-riding strategies and methods. -- Even the acting-normal part: Think how much effort she must have to put into *that*. :-) |
![]() |
![]() The 3 and 4 are weirder than the 2 and 5, all in all :) |
![]() |
![]() There's often a pair of cops on the Atlantic Ave 2 platform. What odds you give she knew they'd be there and had it all planned? Yeah, I can't tell you for sure, but hey... |
![]() |
Sun. 4/7/13 10:12pm
Dave Mandl:
It was convincing. I was checking myself in the window to see if there was anything wrong, like I had toothpaste on my nose or something. (I didn't.) |
![]() |
![]() You don't sound that nuts to me, Dave....for what it's worth. |
![]() |
Sun. 4/7/13 10:14pm
Dave Mandl:
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. |
![]() |
![]() You wuz set up, dude. -- Doing that to people who look like they have it together is a major sense of power and control in her otherwise semi-pointless life :) |
![]() |
![]() Kenzo has changed the handling of icons in the last two days. We're all perfectly square now. |
![]() |

![]() Noticed the squaring-off of icons immeadiately - as most of mine are not square. Prob. inevitable - simpler for 'em. Tidy little metaphor!...I was self-conscious my Rabbit one was bigger than most anyway... Another DJ played Lee Hazlewood 'It's an Actuality' this morning: Made me think of Tom Lerher... |
![]() |
![]() My favorite are the Towner/Peacock duos. |
![]() |
![]() Tom 'Lehrer'...not getting better @ spelling... |
![]() |
![]() This squaring of the avatars has cut the top of my head off. |
![]() |
Sun. 4/7/13 10:50pm
Dave Mandl:
I love those '70s ECM records. Lots of good Towner and Abercrombie stuff, together and separate. |
![]() |
![]() ...Makes me feel like a real "L 7" |
![]() |
![]() Lee Hazlewood = Tom Lehrer ... oddly congruous. |
![]() |
![]() ...eh - squaring actually improves a few of my icons - while @ least one goes back to the image program for work... |

![]() |
![]() ...sounds like she'd've been usefull on the subway... |
![]() |
Sun. 4/7/13 10:53pm
Dave Mandl:
Blame Instagram. |
![]() |
![]() I always blame Instagram, when I'm not blaming Facebook. I've dropped MySpace and LiveJournal from the "default blame list". No point any more :) |
![]() |
![]() What - *Kenzo* doesn't know why we're Square - ?! ...It's thru Amazon or something - ??... |
![]() |
![]() Oh, and Twitter. Definitely still on the list... |
![]() |
![]() Mauuice Mandelbaum. Big intellectual historian in the mid 20th century. "almond tree" |
![]() |
![]() I loved that century. |
![]() |
Sun. 4/7/13 10:59pm
Droll:
The Lubomyr Melnyk was amazing -- I thought it was two pianists. I didn't notice the change to icons. I'm so often confounded by the lack of WYSIWYG software I hardly notice. I blame defective bloatware. The two central fallacies of computing are: 1. Any problem with software can be remedied with more software 2. Testing is not way to inspect-in quality. Testing proves the presence of bugs, not their absence. |
![]() |
![]() Kenzo didn't say he didn't know. He knows. He's just in the same boat. |

![]() The only reason I can imagine for max height *and* width is if there might be a grid display of some sort. Otherwise, this design really only requires max height *or* width. |

Sun. 4/7/13 11:08pm

Kenzo, Don't get me wrong, I very well understand the allure of the tools that let you whip together a solution to the Trifecta Pseudo-Problem in a few hours... But you can't live on candy alone, you get fat. |
