You see a blanket on the ground. It's your favorite color, smooth and soft. You can sit on it, or lie on it. It's a flying blanket, and you are the pilot. You are in control. You can fly anywhere you wish, just by thinking about it. You are the pilot.

Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 10:06pm steve:

hi Wendy. cheese rules.
  Mon. 3/11/13 10:08pm 4blueSalamander:

I know it sounds really sappy to say that I want to give a stranger a hug based on a common interest - but wfmu is so special today. It is very inspiring, and full of good. Maybe one of the best things is learning tolerance, learning to actually love shows that we once despised! It's just so genuine.

Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 10:33pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Home of McNeill's, one of my favorite bars in New England!
Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 10:34pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Pete, I live in that very town. I used to go to McNeill's when we still referred to it as "Dewey's". In fact, I used to live just a few doors down from the joint. I could almost smell it from my porch. You know the smell!
Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 10:35pm Wendy del Formaggio:

(But I'm from NJ, too, Pete.)
Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 10:37pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

Hey! I sensed someone on here mentioned McNeaill's. Even though I was not listening. Tuned in and sure enough.
  Mon. 3/11/13 10:37pm monte:

woman walks into a bar, says 'give me an entendre'. bartender says 'make it a double?' she says yes, so he gives it to her.
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 10:38pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I know the smell.
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 10:39pm steve:

Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 10:40pm Uncle Michael:

I am a fromagophile.
Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 10:40pm Wendy del Formaggio:

GMM Mark, your spidey sense is admirable! Where in our fair state do you reside? BTW, did you go to Town Meeting last week? (This is where non-VTers leave the room, confused.)
Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 10:40pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

The guy that used to deliver McNeill's in the kegs to places around VT would stink of pot. And often the 22 oz bottles would have the labels upside down or sideways.
Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 10:40pm Wendy del Formaggio:

What Steve said! Both times!
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 10:41pm G:

This guy sounds like he really *does* hate that job -- more so than Reggie Dwight anyhow.
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 10:42pm Parq:

I gotta admit, I prefer Shatner.
Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 10:42pm Wendy del Formaggio:

GMM Mark, which guy? They ALL did! hahahaha.
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 10:42pm Ken From Hyde Park:

A string kept coming into the same bar and causing trouble. The bartender bans him. To disguise himself, he undid his ends and twisted himself up and went back in. The bartender asks "Aren't you that string I just threw out?" To which he replies, "No, I'm a frayed knot."
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 10:43pm steve:

i just slightly upped my mouse pledge. this song represents everything good about wfmu.
Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 10:44pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Ken, there's also a similar joke that ends with "We don't serve string here", to which Jonathan Lethem used to great effect in "Motherless Brooklyn", which YOU SHOULD ALL READ, if you haven't already.
Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 10:44pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

I have heard of you, Wendy. Cheese. I live in the granite city.
Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 10:45pm Wendy del Formaggio:

No way, stop! That would be the Land of Ruts, right? I was in your fair city eating mass quantities of maple products at the State Fair in September.
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 10:46pm Carmichael:

Hiya Dan and devoted woofers/moo-ers.
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 10:47pm G:

We out of staters still know what you're talking about :p
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 10:47pm steve:

you Vermonters sure know how to have fun.
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 10:48pm G:

I want cheese with maple syrup sauce. NOW
Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 10:49pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Hello Carmichael. Howya doin?
Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 10:49pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

Not Rutland. the granite city is in Barre where all the famous granite quarries are. Not too far from the capital and of course somewhat near where Ben & Jerry's factory is.
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 10:50pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

At least once a month, I consider for a moment the idea of living in Vermont.
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 10:50pm chinchilla:

greetings! phmoo!!
Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 10:51pm D in Miami:

Hey, Dan and all! Just tuning in now and.... CAN!
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 10:51pm fleep:

Lose a salamander, gain a chinchilla. It's a menagerie.
Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 10:53pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Whoops, sorry GMM Mark! I'm really from NJ, and even though I've lived in VT a total of 13 years or so, I haven't left Windham County much. Yes, of course Barre is Granite City. I knew that... I swear! haha.
Pete: do it!
  Mon. 3/11/13 10:55pm charlie:

whoops, was the dvd a different pledge amount than the cd(s)? I meant to pledge for the dvd, oh well no biggie
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 10:55pm steve:

ooo we can make this goal people
Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 10:56pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

We will be coming down the weekend of the finale and hoof. But this year it is not at Maxwell's. I have heard different reports as to access for listeners in the new ground floor studio. Been trying to find out if there might be a listener meet up somewhere during the hoof.
  Mon. 3/11/13 11:01pm penelope:

hi Dan!
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 11:01pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I once ate lunch in the Green-something restaurant in a strip mall in Barre. I was served by a charismatic if not all that competent teen named Zeus. That is the extent of my time in Barre.
Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 11:03pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

soup n' greens, Pete?
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 11:03pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Same here, Mark. I will be in town that weekend, and was going to drop in at Maxwell's. Not all that upset not to go to Hoboken on St. Vomit-on-the-sidewalk Day, though.
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 11:04pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

That's the place.
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 11:04pm steve:

Vermont is the best. my mom used to live in the worlds smallest house in a one street town in Southern VT. i loved that place.
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 11:04pm fleep:

Move that cow head! Congratulations.
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 11:04pm steve:

Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 11:05pm Wendy del Formaggio:

The dog wags its tail! If I were a pup, I'd wag my tail right now, too.
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 11:06pm steve:

i think it was Rocketman that did it
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 11:07pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Me and the woman drove through Montpelier a couple of months ago, though, and it seemed livlier than I remembered. Where's the best hole-in-the-wall to grab a pint there these days?
Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 11:08pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

We are just going to be in Jersey City and see what happens. Will be there Saturday night, Sunday and leave Monday mid morning. I am bringing some Vermont beer for Joe M and Scott W.s promised. And some for anyone else if there is a meet up of listeners.
Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 11:10pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

In Montpelier Charlio's has been the dive, charming hole in the wall place. But the newer Three Penny Taproom has become a popular award winning place.
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 11:17pm Andrew Waterloo:

I would like to make the trip down for the record fair
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 11:18pm Carmichael:

Hi Wendy, doing OK. Speaking of paying, I'm doing taxes ....
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 11:28pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I think if you're bringing beer from VT, you get in.
Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 11:32pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Ugh, taxes. I can't even venture to do mine these days, but they still give me High Anxiety (it's always the same...)
Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 11:33pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

And if Wendy brings some of her wonderful cheese she should get in.
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 11:35pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

What is this, the Three Wise Listeners?
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 11:36pm Uncle Michael:

Idiazabal for me, please.
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 11:42pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Have either of you tried anything from Hill Farmstead Brewery? I listened to a couple of beer geeks at the Copper Mine Pub in NJ talking about it like it was Shangri-la -- revered, and only dubiously real.
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 11:45pm fleep:

Sold!
Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 11:46pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

Hill Farmstead is the best beer I have ever had in my life. it is magical. You can go to the brewery and fill up your growlers and chat with the masters. about 45 minute drive for me. but can get it at some more local pubs.
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 11:49pm Mutant:

Avatar Mon. 3/11/13 11:51pm Wendy del Formaggio:

GMM Mark, I'd love to bring down some cheese. I'm sad I'm not there for the marathon this year. Usually I'm the one knitting in the phone room. But I can't get there this year. Next time, and with cheese!
Avatar    Mon. 3/11/13 11:51pm Caryn:
