You see a blanket on the ground. It's your favorite color, smooth and soft. You can sit on it, or lie on it. It's a flying blanket, and you are the pilot. You are in control. You can fly anywhere you wish, just by thinking about it. You are the pilot.

Mardi Gras Eve!
  Mon. 2/11/13 9:09pm adamnspy:

I always meant to ask~ which came first, the Modern Lovers reference in this song or the band?
Avatar    Mon. 2/11/13 9:10pm duke:

I like this moon duo thing..very nice start to the show
Avatar Mon. 2/11/13 9:11pm Dan Bodah:

I am woefully uninformed about the Modern Lovers
  Mon. 2/11/13 9:13pm PB:

Moon Duo features one of the guys from Wooden Shjips, doesn't it. Certainly has that great Shjips sound.
Avatar    Mon. 2/11/13 9:14pm fleep:

First star of the night goes to Moon Duo, DB
Avatar Mon. 2/11/13 9:16pm tikbartok:

I know that the album taking tiger mountain was like 74-75 I'm not sure that the modern lovers go back that far
Avatar Mon. 2/11/13 9:17pm Dan Bodah:

Yeah Moon Duo is Ripley Johnson from Wooden Shjips and Sanae Yamada on keys. This is their 2nd record, came out a couple of months ago. There's a video from another cut off that record which is a hoot: youtu.be...
  Mon. 2/11/13 9:18pm PB:

I think the first Modern Lovers album came out in 76. Features Roadrunner and is a really good album.
Avatar Mon. 2/11/13 9:20pm Dan Bodah:

Oh yes @adamnspy, the Eno track. Yes, apparently Eno was hanging around NYC a lot during the time when the Taking Tiger Mt record was written (it was out in 1974). And the Modern Lovers were playing from 1970-1974 before ever recording/releasing anything. It's hard to imagine Eno wasn't at least aware of the Modern Lovers at the time, and given his proclivity for word play, well...
  Mon. 2/11/13 9:20pm PB:

DB do you prefer the CSN or the Jefferson Airplane version of Wooden Ships. I'm slightly partial to the Airplane's version but do really like them both.
Avatar Mon. 2/11/13 9:22pm Dan Bodah:

I like how abstract Airplane's version is...they are so much less precise and the overlapping voices kind of devolve into slurred clouds in the chorus. I always liked that.
Avatar    Mon. 2/11/13 9:23pm Sugarfly Waterloo:

Modern Lovers self-titled is a classic
Avatar Mon. 2/11/13 9:25pm Dan Bodah:

Another classic miscue, courtesy of your expert DJ
  Mon. 2/11/13 9:32pm PB:

DB, messing with PiL fans.
Avatar    Mon. 2/11/13 9:33pm joe:

That guy Keith Levene played with some shitty punk rock band back in the 70's was smart enough to jump ship before he ruined his life.
  Mon. 2/11/13 9:37pm michael:

The dj doesn't know Jah Wobble? And insults him? Sad.
Avatar    Mon. 2/11/13 9:37pm joe:

Moonlighters are so good. Last time I saw them was on a boat in NYC where they played and then showed a Marx Bros movie.
Avatar    Mon. 2/11/13 9:37pm Blacktooth:

Ha ha! "Some old duds in a bar band."
Avatar Mon. 2/11/13 9:39pm Dan Bodah:

@michael, um, tongue was firmly in cheek
Avatar Mon. 2/11/13 9:39pm Dan Bodah:

Love Jah & Keith

Any upcoming shows at castello planned?
Avatar Mon. 2/11/13 9:45pm Dan Bodah:

@irban, I'll be back at the Castello Plan in April. Bands TBA.

Avatar    Mon. 2/11/13 9:46pm steve:

hi Dan. just tuning in
  Mon. 2/11/13 9:48pm irban:

cool, thanks dan. Will plan accordingly.
Avatar Mon. 2/11/13 9:50pm Dan Bodah:

@michael, your outrage was understandable -- my humor is a little on the dry side tonight. @irban, not yet sure what night at Castello in April, but likely 15 or 21.
  Mon. 2/11/13 9:51pm irban:

could be a bit awkward doing my taxes in that tiny joint.
Avatar Mon. 2/11/13 9:53pm Dan Bodah:

@irban, great idea: April 15th Tax Party at Castello!
Avatar    Mon. 2/11/13 9:56pm Sugarfly Waterloo:

@irban, Maybe they'll finish before 11:55 and free up that last minute for you

Even the wfmu soap won't wash off the subdermal fluorescence?
Avatar Mon. 2/11/13 10:05pm Dan Bodah:

No, sorry 12539, it merely fixes the subdermal stains for the remainder of the aeon.
Avatar    Mon. 2/11/13 10:05pm Sugarfly Waterloo:

I thought the subdermal stain was the miracle
Avatar Mon. 2/11/13 10:10pm Dan Bodah:

Jarboe on this track
Avatar Mon. 2/11/13 10:11pm Dan Bodah:

Also, the band Moira Scar that I played a little bit ago...they will be here to play live on the show on 5/27/13
Avatar    Mon. 2/11/13 10:16pm joe:

I love me some random black metal
  Mon. 2/11/13 10:19pm PB:

Am I the only one whose comments board doesn't automatically update? I have to constantly hit my refresh button. Very annoying.
Avatar    Mon. 2/11/13 10:22pm fleep:

@PB Had that problem, switched to Chrome, works fine there
Avatar    Mon. 2/11/13 10:24pm joe:

@PB I have that problem in explorer as well
  Mon. 2/11/13 10:25pm PB:

Thanks Fleep & Joe. I think it's time to switch to Chrome.
Avatar    Mon. 2/11/13 10:28pm joe:

Yeah the new FMU friends network does not work right in explorer either if you needed any other reason to switch
Avatar Mon. 2/11/13 10:31pm Dan Bodah:

Anyone else have any issues with the board not updating? Let me know details (browser & version, what the problem is) and I'll forward to our tech guru -- he will want to know this and get it working.
  Mon. 2/11/13 10:35pm Frisco Squid:

I have to update the comments section manually as well. I'm using an old version of Explorer at work -- v7.

Sorry I missed Moon Duo, Wobble/Levene, Coil, Moira Scar etc.! Will have to revisit the archives.
Avatar    Mon. 2/11/13 10:38pm joe:

@Dan B using Explorer 9 playlist or comments board do not auto update. In regards to the profile issue when you favorite something an then check it on your profile you can see where it should be but it does not actually show up. This seems to be an all Explorer issue as using Chrome and checking anything on my phone all seems to be hunky dorey.
  Mon. 2/11/13 10:40pm Thierry:

Hi Dan, no pbs with XP + Firefox 18, updates nicely.
Also, your program is like a narrative, striding forward, with the Scar/Deacon/Jarmush section a true beacon.
Avatar Mon. 2/11/13 10:40pm Dan Bodah:

Thanks for info on probs with display -- if anyone else has similar probs, please let me know here or at danb at wfmu dot org
Avatar Mon. 2/11/13 10:41pm Dan Bodah:

@Thierry, thanks man

Visions of an unshaven Clint Eastwood, on horseback, in the desert, dressed in a pancho, smoking a cigarillo and spitting om the ground.
  Mon. 2/11/13 11:02pm penelope:

hiya, D.
     Mon. 2/11/13 11:05pm 12539:

Dan, are you sure this isn't Mulatu Astatke?
Avatar Mon. 2/11/13 11:08pm Dan Bodah:

@penelope, hiya. @12539, most of the cuts on that CD *are* Mulatu, but that one is not.
Avatar Mon. 2/11/13 11:09pm Dan Bodah:

Hey all, glad to have some heads along for the ride. Cheers! And @john, you're welcome re: K-Scope -- I just got it and haven't spent enough time with it yet myself, but love it already.
