Every show starts with a cut from the ‘70s: Rediscovering the forgotten rockers, revisiting the once-hated disco beats, replaying the power-pop favorites. Next: copious amounts of new releases and occasional live bands. Also: I’m the biggest Nick Gilder fan on WFMU.

This show is going to the dogs tonight.
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:10pm G:

Has it been awhile, Sybil? Or am I having the very early onset Alzheimers over here?
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:11pm Sybil:

The dogs are going to the show.
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:11pm Atomic Dog:

Bow wow wow, etc...

Ceausescu (spelt like that), the romanian dictator who was killed around 1990?
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:13pm SteveL:

efd: You going to post the shot of you and dusty watching the dogs or should I?
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:13pm Sybil:

Ney, G, it's been awhile. I've had weird schedule, but now, weird or not, I'm such an Evan fan... I'm, here!
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:15pm G:

Here's where I flunk the Alzheimers test -- You're a math teacher or math grad student or something along those lines???

If so, the comment authentication is not as challenging for you as for some of us.
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:16pm Sybil:

But dang efd... ceauseseau??? Beyond expectactions!
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:16pm G:

Fatima Mansions is a somewhat infamous Dublin housing project, by the way. (I've published about Irish stuff, and spent time in Dublin.)

Hey G... You're the best! Yeah all that! Wow!

Mathetatician me!
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:19pm Sybil:

P.S. the alleged "math" is the pits for me. I can't add.

That math is too simple, eh? :-P

Hi everyone! Special hi to Sybil!

Going a little crazy with the dog-wrangling just now, but thanks all for listening!
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:22pm Sybil:

Evan, I'm planning to do an early pledge to tie down my naming. Sorry about that. But I promise to bug people here!

  Wed. 2/15/12 9:23pm Sybil:

No, G, I can't add! :)
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:23pm G:

Whose dog pics? They're good...
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:24pm john:

Hey Evan, and all! I know, but I sort of cheated. And I loved Inspiral Carpets 20 years ago.
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:24pm Barkevious Shabazz:

The Mini-Pinscher peed on the inspiral carpet?
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:25pm Sybil:

john o john! You're john I hope! Hey you!
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:26pm john:

Sybil! My gosh, I mean, criminy!
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:27pm 12539:

EFD - I think I know the connection too, but I sort of cheated, probably the same way as John.

Reverse image search--you're twisting my melon, man. Nothing too technological. Just a little memory-jogging re breed varieties.
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:31pm EL:

Whither Nazario?
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:31pm Barkevious Shabazz:

Bull Terriers kickin ass.

Whippet good!
Wed. 2/15/12 9:33pm Kat in Chicago:

"whippet"? *groans*
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:33pm john:

After which, I remembered I could have just grabbed the pic and got the name. But why do something the easy way when there's a difficult one? And Sybil, you've been missed!
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:33pm Joe D.:

that whippit pun. God. Dammit.
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:34pm PB:

Anyone remember the Toronto punk band Nazi Dog & The Viletones. I don't even remember if they were any good, just remember the name.
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:34pm Sybil:

OK y'al... I am the owner of a certain part of the WFMU infrastructure... and I plan on owning it this time around! I'm making my pledge before the deadline so that I can have my stuff named after me again. But you all? I dare you to match me!

And efd.... you played "whip it"? I so love you!
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:34pm Joe D.:

sorry, whippet. Not whippit. Heh.
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:34pm 12539:

John O'Hurley better watch his back.

  Wed. 2/15/12 9:40pm john:

We live in hope.
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:41pm Sybil:

This is possibly the best efd show of the year, every year. And I say that as a RSfan. How brilliant is this?!
  Wed. 2/15/12 9:43pm Barkevious Shabazz:

Even Joe Garagiola eventually released his deathgrip on the Westminster mic. There's hope yet.

Wed. 2/15/12 9:59pm Kat in Chicago:

Hey Sybil, pledges have to be paid in full in advance for naming rights, correct? I always do the $15/month but might see if the budget allows a paid-in-full this year...
  Wed. 2/15/12 10:00pm Credit Card:

You rang?
  Wed. 2/15/12 10:02pm Sybil:

Gee-ah! I'm fighting Kat! I'm loving it! Because if I lose out to her, I'll find another part of the infrastrucrture to pown!

Consider it mentioned.
Wed. 2/15/12 10:06pm Kat in Chicago:

Sybil, I doubt we're eyeing the same prize - I've got a couple of alternatives in mind actually.

  Wed. 2/15/12 10:45pm Dame Edna:

How did the possums trap come out, possums?
Wed. 2/15/12 10:45pm Holly in NC:

@Kat - the 15/month definitely gets you naming rights.
@Sybil - I remember us reveling in our naming wins last year. Time flies!
  Wed. 2/15/12 10:48pm EL:

Gotta run out efd. Talk to you via marathon dollahs soon.
Avatar Wed. 2/15/12 10:49pm efd:

bye EL, and thanks in advance!
  Wed. 2/15/12 10:49pm G:

I believe they changed it to one-time paid-in-full pledges this year, for namings. I'm guessing at least a few people got naming rights last year, and then stopped their monthly payments somewhere along the line during the year.
Wed. 2/15/12 10:50pm Holly in NC:

@Dame Edna -
Thank you for asking! One possum & one neighbor's cat (oops). And, elsewhere, 1 dead squirrel & 2 dead birds.
@Destroit - no rush!
Is Danne here tonight? I need his no-fail Stratego strategy, a six year old thinks I'm, er, 'challenged'.
Wed. 2/15/12 10:51pm Holly in NC:

@G - :-(
  Wed. 2/15/12 10:51pm G:

Danne was in 7SD earlier...
  Wed. 2/15/12 10:51pm Possum:

The horror. The horror.
  Wed. 2/15/12 10:53pm G:

Just play possum, dude.
  Wed. 2/15/12 10:55pm Droll:

@G, Glad they finally got rid of that naming rights loophole. If I pay in full for a restoration of "Midnight Ticket Oasis" do I get a quality "Ticket" overdub every week? None of this 'Oh! [Cough, fumble] Yeah, Uh, Ticket!" stuff?
Wed. 2/15/12 10:55pm Holly in NC:

@Possum - hush. I personally transported you 2 blocks away to our awesome neighborhood park where people grill out ALL the time & there's tons of nice sceaps for you. And an abandoned bathhouse for your shelter.
  Wed. 2/15/12 10:55pm G:

Ask efd, he's the one who has to execute every week. :-)
Wed. 2/15/12 10:57pm Abandoned Bathhouse User:

Abandoned? So you think.
Wed. 2/15/12 10:57pm Holly in NC:

As a paid and paying in full $15/monther, I protest. NOT that I will rescind my pledge!!!! Just sayin'

Wed. 2/15/12 11:32pm Holly in NC:

@mb - I thought the very same thing
@Destroit - most definitely, if I'm not caring for little ones! And I of course love Ringo, as do all Yankee fans who remember 1978 ;-)
@Danne - hope you're feeling better & I would *love* if you'd share your Stratego hints. I've been cajoled into a rematch on Saturday - winner takes on his 2 older & equally precocious brothers.
efd, thank you for Pony Time.

  Wed. 2/15/12 11:33pm Danne D:

okay Holly - I always do two bunkers in the back (i.e. surround by 3 bombs). One will have the flag in it, the other will have a "7" to take out whatever miner might have gotten to that point.

Mike, thanks for listening and checking in from the dark!
  Wed. 2/15/12 11:37pm Danne D:

I tend to keep the 1, 2, and Spy close to middle for easier deployment, sweeping up. I'm trying to remember the rest as it's been some years. I know that none of the pieces was the same value as its neighbor. Pretty sure I did some sort of deal with a 5 and 9 in the front on one side and maybe a 6 and a 9 on the other. Generally kept the miners toward the back/middle - generally wanted to deploy those once I had a good idea of where the flag is. Generally found it easier to win by attrition.

I will school you in Risk. Any of you. Step to this and get SONNED.

efd -
That totally sounded like the opening to Superchunk's "Precision Auto" - wait there it is again!

Very tough to knock out his 1 with a Spy - generally you have to keep the Spy close to a 2 or 3. About those 3's - I seem to recall I used them to the mid-back. I tended to play fairly non-aggressive, that is I'm willing to move pieces forward, figure out what's out there and then retreat - I'm content with laying back and letting the opponent expose pieces and picking 'em off. I like having a good piece like a 5 around to pick off the guys your opponent uses to pick off the scouts.

A big part is making sure you remember what a piece is once it has been exposed. Shuffling your pieces back to your lines and moving them around helps to obscure their identity.

Scouts I like to use if they have a piece that's exposed/uncovered and I want to find out what it is.

this is kinda like the Judgement Night soundtrack crossed with a car crash

Joe, EXACTLY.

I love Ice-T on this song.

Hi Joe D. I cede Risk. Basically I cede anything except for backgammon, Monopoly & (bar) shuffleboard, I'm kind of a shitty gamer.

Danne - I am going to memorize your tips. You rock.
  Wed. 2/15/12 11:45pm Danne D:

Played a lot in college. Always went with a pretty standard set up, flipping what side the key pieces might be on, but largely it was a similar deal. Btw, if you're opponent decides to get cute and put bombs right in the front, blocking out the front line - don't bother to take those bombs out - let them bottle themselves up, it makes it much harder on them.
  Wed. 2/15/12 11:46pm Danne D:

Thanks :) Oh, if you get an advantage (say you have an extra 3) you should have no problem with trading pieces (like say your 1s).
  Wed. 2/15/12 11:47pm Danne D:

My college roommate once set up bombs in 4 of the 6 front positions (leaving only the left side open for movement). He put 7's behind each of those bombs - and I figured that's what he had done. So I left the bombs alone and forced him to play everything to that left side.

Even more phlegm than usual. Get that man a suction tube!
  Wed. 2/15/12 11:49pm Danne D:

I hope to avoid suction tube duty during EFD's marathon show next week :)

"according to the band's Myspace Page Ugly Kid Joe has reformed, with plans to tour in 2010-2011 and possibly write new material."
Wed. 2/15/12 11:51pm Holly in NC:

I suppose I should clarify that I was referring to Mark E.
Danne, you're not that ill,are you?
  Wed. 2/15/12 11:52pm Droll:

I also got the crooked-head quizzical look when Ice-T put together to two words "Motorhead Fool". Glad it wasn't just me.
  Wed. 2/15/12 11:52pm glenn:

devastator!!
  Wed. 2/15/12 11:53pm Danne D:

lol I'm fine Holly. My throat seems to be doing better. Still a little stuffy
  Wed. 2/15/12 11:53pm Joe D.:

the cover of that Born To Raise Hell single is something else. Really fantastic. It has "Motorhead, foo'!" written all over it
  Wed. 2/15/12 11:54pm Danne D:

Will be in the phone room the next 2 weeks so you'll probably not see me here on the comments board (except perhaps for a blind hello from my phone) :)
  Wed. 2/15/12 11:55pm G:

@Danne: So it's free rein for gossiping about you on here, huh? :-P
  Wed. 2/15/12 11:57pm Danne D:

Thought it always was, G :)
  Wed. 2/15/12 11:57pm Danne D:

I've got to be the most boring gossip topic ever, anyway.
  Wed. 2/15/12 11:58pm Danne D:
