Thu. 1/19/12 6:08pm
Caryn:
Just today I read a passage by Kurt Vonnegut (written in 1965) that I think the OWS wouldn't disagree with: "Honest, industrious, peaceful citizens were classed as bloodsuckers, if they asked to be paid a living wage. And they saw that praise was reserved henceforth for those who devised means of getting paid enormously for committing crimes against which no laws had been passed. Thus the American dream turned belly up, turned green, bobbed to the scummy surface of cupidity unlimited, filled with gas, went bang in the noonday sun."
|

glenn:
somebody has to. | |
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:09pm
Matt from Springfield:
@the woman speaking: THEY LIVE. WE SLEEP. (If you don't know what this means, see John Carpenter's "They Live"--love that movie!)
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:10pm
Clay:
Hi David! | |
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:10pm
glenn:
which book is that from, caryn?
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:10pm
Caryn:
@Matt: "They Live" is awesome! Probably my favourite Carpenter movie (there may be objectively better ones, but I respond best to that).
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:11pm
Clay:
I like The Thing, Matt. | |
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:11pm
Matt from Springfield:
Thanks for turning us all onto the Occupy movement. I didn't get to meet the OWS members marching to DC before Thanksgiving, but I did attend Occupy Congress two days ago! Talked to a lot of people, got plenty of photos!
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:11pm

Thu. 1/19/12 6:12pm
Clay:
Welcome, Ryan! | |
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:12pm
david:
I like that the Dusty Show background sounds we've come to love are back this week.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:12pm
Caryn:
@glenn: It's from "God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater".
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:12pm
Matt from Springfield:
@ryan: Welcome! There's no one else on Earth who broadcasts just what Clay Pigeon does.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:13pm
Clay:
Yeah, this one's analog, David. I like it, too.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:13pm
Matt from Springfield:
@david: Ditto here! Did Anonymous take down a bunch of websites or something?
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:15pm
david:
yes indeed MFS | |
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:15pm
Chris:
Come on Clay... if you haven't noticed you do tend to "push to far" with people. Not a criticism, simply an observation.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:16pm
Clay:
Yeah, I do, Chris. You're correct.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:16pm
cglenn:
Hey Clay. i was thinking how i admire your interviewing skills. And i appreciate your shows lately and getting a window into others worlds... keep up the good work...
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:16pm
kata:
yes! John Lydon! | |
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:17pm
Clay:
Thanks, Cglenn. I worry that I've lost many listeners. Never intended to do so many Occupy shows, but each week I find myself continuing.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:17pm
kata:
I like how Clay pushes "too far," most of the time the interviewee is so candid, and it's goddamn refreshing.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:18pm
cglenn:
right on Kata | |
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:18pm
Matt from Springfield:
@Caryn: "They Live" may not be a Carpenter "genre" movie, but I also think it's his masterpiece, a great movie produced out of his great mind.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:19pm
david:
The folks really pushing too far and exploiting interviewees are the mainstream media folks... IMO Clay brings an unmatched compassion and humanity to his interviews...
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:19pm
Clay:
TY Kata. | |
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:19pm
mike east:
Hey everybody! They let me go home early cuz I'm sick. Killin time before pickin up the kid. Glad to catch u live, clay!
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:19pm
cglenn:
i can dig your apprehension Clay. That's why i'm sending encouragement your way..
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:20pm
Clay:
TY David. Hi Mike! | |
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:20pm
glenn:
wait til it's warm again. occupy will be back, stronger than before.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:21pm
Matt from Springfield:
Keep doing Occupy shows as long as it's relevant, Clay! Like I said, every time I wondered if you've been going with it for too many shows, the next episode keeps showing that the movement is still so relevant! No one else is showing the humanity of OWS!
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:21pm
Clay:
I think you are correct, Glenn.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:21pm
Caryn:
@Matt: Ever see "Society"? Bizarrely jumps from "90210" territory to paranoid thriller to weirdo Lynch/Waters-esque characters to (finally) Communist splatter horror.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:21pm
david:
occupy's washington d.c. actions on tuesday were massive - 1000s crowding front of white house and steps of supreme court...
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:22pm
kata:
yes! I love this guy's answer to 'do you love America' -- my sentiments exaclty. We are citizens of the world.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:23pm
Clay:
Matt, I feel like I've had an opportunity to stick with it in the 'down time' through the cold winter months. Soon enough, the media will return en masse with the protesters. David - I've heard the media downplayed the attendance. Glad it was well-attended.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:23pm
Matt from Springfield:
@david: Ah, it's being reported now, retaliatory strikes on business and Justice Dept websites for taking down Megaupload. @Caryn: No I haven't, sounds intriguing!
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:24pm
frances:
Hey folks! @Matt/Springfield: Good on ya for making it to Occupy Congress! I visited & donated to Occupy DC when I visited up there in Nov.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:24pm
Clay:
This woman happened upon OWS at 60 Wall Street - she wasn't an OWS participant.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:24pm
kata:
I feel a Newt sound bite coming on...
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:24pm
Clay:
Hi Frances - thanks for listening!
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:24pm
Caryn:
I think the way mainstream media ignore OWS (hell, Occupy Congress was ignored by many channels, including CNN) makes Clay's effort all the more important. Not only is this important and interesting programming now, this will also be an important historical record.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:25pm
Matt from Springfield:
@david: I measured the route we marched afterwards on Google Earth--5 miles of marching in the streets! But I'm glad we hit all 3 branches of Government: Legislative, Judicial, Executive! And it was downplayed in the local media. (At least it made the front page of WaPo's local, "Metro" section).
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:25pm
Clay:
Wow, Matt. That's significant. Maybe you can phone in with an update for me.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:26pm
Clay:
I just wish I were more intelligent, Caryn. I don't have the intellect to pull off some of the interviews with certain people.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:26pm
kata:
that is very cool, Matt!
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:27pm
Matt from Springfield:
@Clay send an email to the address I'm using--if you like I can help you out!
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:27pm
david:
Right on Matt - you guys hit the trifecta!
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:28pm
Matt from Springfield:
Clay!--minus points for cutting yourself down to beg for reassurance! :)
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:29pm
Clay:
I suppose there was an element of that in there, Matt, but the insecurity is real and my statement was true, I believe.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:29pm
glenn:
i'd like to be more self deprecating, but i'm so bad at it.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:29pm
Matt from Springfield:
One virtual 100% position of all Occupiers is anger at the Citizens United ruling--it was intense on the Supreme Court steps, but cathartic! Some people really went to town, I thought they were going to be arrested.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:30pm
frances:
Hi Clay! I never miss an episode--& you're wrong about not having the intellect~~you are smart & you bring a lovely, welcoming, challenging and patient -but not a doormat- vibe to all of your interviews--and that tone has never been more than now with OWS coverage (esp since it's totally ignored by media so most mainstream folks are clueless that efforts are still going strong)
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:31pm
mike east:
Nice one glenn | |
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:31pm
Matt from Springfield:
Clay, as a (unauthorized, non-)psychologist, and someone who also is a anxiety-riddled perfectionist, I do that myself sometimes. Insecurity can't be cured, but I know that cutting yourself down just kills your confidence, with no guarantee of people lifting you back up.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:32pm
Clay:
TY Frances. You're nice! Your right, Matt. THIS is what I was looking for! hahahaha
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:32pm
david:
chuck schumer... he goes after rent-a-center but not PIPA...
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:32pm
glenn:
i think that's a stephen wright line.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:33pm
frances:
i'm not nice, just honest!
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:33pm
glenn:
from personal experience, i know that people who are very good at something usually think they suck at it.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:35pm
kata:
is this a group therapy session ? ;) [I got a 666 math answer! yow!]
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:36pm
Clay:
I didn't know this John Barlow guy was a lyricist for The Grateful Dead.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:36pm
Matt from Springfield:
Thanks for your solidarity with Occupy Congress, everyone! Here's my flickr photoset of pictures. Unfortunately my battery ran out quicker than I thought, and I don't have another! But it got dark soon afterward and difficult to take photos. http://www.flickr.com/photos/56767296@N05/sets/72157628934247593/

Thu. 1/19/12 6:36pm
glenn:
after robert hunter. | |
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:37pm
Caryn:
On a slightly tangential political line: I'm just rooting that Gingrich's latest dumbass titbit (announcing that if he becomes president, he'll ignore the Supreme Court rulings he doesn't like) will turn off even the GOP-endorsed Supreme Court Justices.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:38pm
Clay:
Gingrich is desperate.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:38pm
Matt from Springfield:
All of them are posted, but not all are annotated yet. Proud to be an engaged citizen-photojournalist in the spirit of Mr. Pigeon!
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:38pm
Clay:
Yes, Glenn! | |
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:39pm
Clay:
Thanks for that link, Matt.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:39pm
glenn:
about the only thing keeping the fascists who currently run canada in check is the supreme court. i support them unequivocally.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:40pm
Caryn:
@Clay: I think it became obvious that Gingrich was desperate the minute his campaign put out those attack ads, where the whole point was: "You can't trust Mitt Romney because he knows how to speak French!"
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:40pm
Clay:
Matt - call me and give me an update on the Anonymous stuff when I play my first instrumental. 201-239-9368.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:41pm
Matt from Springfield:
I'm still at work! Can't talk right now Clay...I can tell you that the DOJ site is back up, many images still not loading.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:41pm
Clay:
Haha Caryn. Love your posts.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:42pm
Clay:
OK Matt | |
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:42pm
kata:
good photos Matt ! thanks for sharing !
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:43pm
Caryn:
@Clay: Aww... a compliment from Clay really helps with my insecurities.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:44pm
Matt from Springfield:
@kata: My pleasure! @Caryn: Gingrich is always one step from falling apart, when he's desperate, it gets even better! ;)
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:45pm
Matt from Springfield:
@Clay: This was a short and busy week, next Thursday I could get out early and call to talk about Occupy Congress, if you're taking calls.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:45pm
frances:
thanks for posting the link Matt, I just sent you a message via Flickr
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:45pm
glenn:
"newt" is not a name that inspires confidence in me.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:45pm
kata:
um, actually I don't think it's very cool to pit "old media" against "new media" like that speaker just said. Collaborate bitches!
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:46pm
Clay:
Gonna go live. More later.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:47pm
kata:
the "old media" do need some convincing though..
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:48pm
kata:
hey I just got into Wes Montgomery too!
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:49pm
Matt Fan:
He's infamous! | |
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:49pm
Matt from Springfield:
Thanks frances! A co-worker into the Tea Party went to that. He may be one of the few to have attended that, and the Rally For Sanity. (I attended just the latter).
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:49pm
Caryn:
@glenn: yeah, I keep wondering which of the two, "Newt" or "Mitt", is the dumber, less confidence-inducing name. Of course, Romney's real first name, Willard, doesn't inspire much confidence either, what with the "loner controlling killer rats" aspect of it. Though the Crispin Glover connection is quite pleasing to me.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:49pm
Matt from Springfield:
Yes Clay, and RIAA is still down! Down like the ground!
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:50pm
glenn:
crispin in 2014! | |
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:51pm
glenn:
or i guess it would 2013, wouldn't it?
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:51pm
Matt from Springfield:
Justice Dept having difficulties loading, might be a malicious script running.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:51pm
Caryn:
Yeah, Crispin could decorate the White House with his fake eye collection! That would give visiting foreign dignitaries pause.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:52pm
kata:
sing, Clay ! | |
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:52pm
frances:
@Matt: I attended both. The former as a spy w/a camera , the latter as a fan/supporter @Caryn: That Crispin cd is awesome
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:53pm
Caryn:
Will be counting presidential election votes here all Sunday and Monday. My candidate is currently 2nd in the polls, so rooting for a 2nd round and for him to get in there.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:53pm
Matt from Springfield:
@frances: Re: the 9/12 photos, "Jesus Didn't Heal The Sick For Free Obama" "WTF??" W-T-F indeed!
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:54pm
david:
I love Clay's freestyle
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:54pm
frances:
This is my set of photos that Matt's referring to www.flickr.com/photos/francesrust/sets/72157622421540406/ ;)
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:54pm
Caryn:
@Matt: Man, I must have missed the part in the Bible where Jesus demanded some sheckels before he healed the lepers...
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:55pm
Ray L:
Phil's sentiments seconded
|
Thu. 1/19/12 6:55pm
Matt from Springfield:
"My hands are proprietary, leper. They don't come free. If you don't have have BlueStar or other insurance, you'll have to wait in line at the emergency healing room run by my Nigerian disciple. The line runs for days there.." :D

Thu. 1/19/12 10:27pm
Night Al:
The 2012 United States elections will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. The presidential election will be held on this date, coinciding with Senate elections where 33 races will occur, as well as elections for all 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives. Democrats are expected to have 23 senate seats up for election, including 2 independents who caucus with the Democrats, while Republicans are only expected to have 10 seats up for election. You can occupy anything you want, but if you don't vote democrat down the line this next election, you are siding with the 1 %.
|
Thu. 1/19/12 10:31pm
Night Al:
How ironic and moronic it would be for any person supporting an occupy movement but not voting Democrat come November 6th, 2012. If you are an ex-felon, petition your governor for reinstatement.
|
Fri. 1/20/12 3:56am
Srsly?:
@Night Al, Have you been listening to these? Obama signed NDAA, hasn't prosecuted any financial types, hasn't closed Gitmo, and passed Mitt Romney's healthcare plan. Do you really think there's a difference?
|
Tue. 1/24/12 1:34am
Night Al:
Reality check. It's Obama or Romney. Take your pick. Dennis Kucinich is my choice, but he's not running.
|
Tue. 1/24/12 1:36am
Night Al:
By not voting, you voted for Romney.
|
Tue. 1/24/12 1:38am
Night Al:
I just wonder how many of these OWS protesters camping out are not registered to vote.
