Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Listener comments!

  6:23pm
Clay:

Hello
  6:23pm
Cecile:

LOL! you guys.

I remember Heart and Joe Jackson being coffee achievers.
  6:24pm
Matt from Springfield:

I never heard "Keep on keepin' on" until Joe McG played a solo Martha Reeves from the 70s--now I hear it more and more. Is there anyone particularly famous for saying/popularizing it?
  6:24pm
david:

I like that you guys just went 17 hours and now are hitting homers.
  6:24pm
Listener Dave from Seattle:

Let's see if we can do 18 hours!
  6:25pm
david:

Nobody's Fault But Irene's.
  6:26pm
Matt from Springfield:

Suriname--great tropical plantations, cash crops, better than chilly New Amsterdam!
  6:26pm
dale:

rent wars happened right in roxbury, kelly's corners.
  6:27pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Clay: Sing "Doe - A Deer"! I bet you know it!
  6:28pm
Greg from Bloomfield:

Sing some barbershop!
  6:29pm
dave from knoxville:

Getting to listen live is a thrill! Hey, Clay and Julie, your storm show really lifted my spirits. It was fun throughout, especially Clay playing Wild is the Wind, and then Julie coming up with Running Up That Hill, 2 of my very favorite songs. Love you, Clay, you like to run yourself down, but it's one of the 2 or 3 best radio shows anywhere, in my opinion.
  6:29pm
Ike:

Is the Starcastle over yet? Is it safe to come back now? LOL
  6:29pm
depressed Persian cab driver:

Oh, thanks God! Playlist on.., I was afraid it might mean I would have to call to thank you for working the extra time last weekend. Another station in NYC comically outsourced their call in show to a studio in Hollywood. I tried to call and ask them to stop. They wouldn't hear me.
  6:29pm
Fredericks:

Self-centered. Yes. Yes. And for good reason.
  6:31pm
Greg from Bloomfield:

Ferdericks AND Dave from Knoxville! I am humbled by your presencesses.
  6:32pm
Fredericks:

Hey Greg
  6:32pm
Rich:

Clay Is an entertainer provocateur.
  6:32pm
PMD:

Clay does great impressions...

But he does like to control!

Clay, have you ever been interviewed?
  6:32pm
david:

See, Fabio's voice *did* get a little higher.
  6:33pm
Cecile:

I have to go. I'm falling off my chair. Stop eetttt.
I will have to listen to the archives.

LATER
  6:34pm
dave from knoxville:

Wait! Not THE Fredericks? I used to know a Fredericks, but then he quit taking my calls.
  6:35pm
dave from knoxville:

Gee, Greg, Fredericks puts on his pants one leg at a time just like everybody. I would do that too, but I can't get my hands on his pants.
  6:35pm
Matt from Springfield:

@PMD: Clay and Julie were talking a lot this weekend, particularly sensitive stuff the last 3-6 show. But I think Clay should do a pre-recorded "interview" of himself! After all, everyone deserves "the Clay Pigeon treatment", even Clay!
  6:36pm
PMD:

@dave from knoxville, if you are listening live, call in!
  6:36pm
Mike East:

hey dave from knoxville - I just watched your segment on the Best Show DVD. Good stuff. I liked the comics on your door, but couldn't read most of them.
  6:36pm
Night Al:

WOW!! I never would have guessed that Vermont would be the state devastated from a hurricane this year. Are we sure this global warming thing is just a hoax?
  6:36pm
Listener Dave from Seattle:

Yeah, get Knoxville Dave and Fredricks in on this!
  6:36pm
dave from knoxville:

Clay, I picked up the first Starcastle for a buck this week at a new local vinyl shop. I had it in high school (class of '76 baby!) but wore it out.
  6:37pm
PMD:

@Matt, guess I will listen to the archives... and I agree re: Clay interviewing himself! I wonder if he'd try to leave and then convince himself to stay.
  6:38pm
dale:

always stared at my moody blues covers. lot going on there.
  6:39pm
Ike:

I hear that VT had a lot of trouble because so many towns there are so low-lying, way down in valleys near rivers, built before modern planning methods, etc.
  6:39pm
dale:

that was la choy makes chinese food
  6:40pm
depressed Persian cab driver:

@Night Al - tropical storm, but all the same, bad. If it had no "eye" it was no longer a hurricane. Latrobe is out near Pittsburgh BTW.
  6:40pm
dave from knoxville:

PMD: I can't call in live, I am on ban, Hey Mike, thanks a lot! The easiest ones to describe are 1) A professor standing in front of a projected image of a pie chart with only two sections, one a tiny sliver, the other the rest of the pie. The huge portion says "people who don't like dave". The tiny sliver says "undecided", and 2) a Family Circus cartoon with the caption " Distrust everyone in whom the urge to punish is powerful. Thanks for the thumbs up!
  6:41pm
Ike:

Telephones and I don't really get along, Julie. @Dave, bans don't apply station-wide, just on Tom's show, unless I'm wildly off-base.
  6:42pm
Matt from Springfield:

You can call Dave, the ban is only for the Best Show. If that affects other shows, Spike called 7SD last night, so punishments would have already been issued!
  6:42pm
Mike East:

Awesome, Dave! Thanks! I gotta get one of them HD TV's. Then maybe I could pause to read the rest.
  6:43pm
Night Al:

We have a feeder band brushing by us here in Saint Petersburg, but my hurricane force field I've been summoning is still working. NOLA, not so lucky. Another no-namer causing problems.
  6:43pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Ike: Come on, all fans should call in at some point! Clay is a great host to talk to.
  6:45pm
Ike:

I was on the air w/Clay at one point, briefly, but in person, not via phone, when Clay helped out with Billy Jam's live remote from the Knitting Factory.
  6:46pm
Matt from Springfield:

Cool! I actually first talked to Clay via phone, but not on-air. I placed a pledge on Julie's show and Clay took it.
  6:47pm
Listener Dave from Seattle:

I am voting to make the Triumvirate an official show on WFMU
  6:48pm
dave from knoxville:

Mike East, the real in-joke was the image on my computer; it was Mickey Dolenz holding his patented hardware invention, the "Hang It All".
  6:48pm
Night Al:

I won a free pass to see Colombiana last night, but after getting my free popcorn I slipped into Conan 3D for 15 minutes, then slipped into Midnight In Paris for my free movie. Colombiana didn't interest me but Paris was OK.
  6:49pm
PMD:

What's this about a ban?
  6:50pm
Matt from Springfield:

On Tom Scharpling's show, the latest "gimmick" is a temporary ban on the regular callers, to mix it up a bit.
  6:50pm
samuel henry:

who is this playing again?
  6:51pm
Frances:

I've phoned in on air a few times. The first time I was put on the spot to sing something, so I sang a little of "Afterhours" awkwardly .
  6:51pm
Matt from Springfield:

P.J. Proby
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P.J._Proby
  6:51pm
PMD:

Is this Dave from knoxville on the air now??
  6:52pm
Listener Dave from Seattle:

Hey Dave from Knoxville, we have the same birthday!
  6:53pm
Night Al:

My Aunt June and Uncle Tom live in Knoxville. The Best!
  6:53pm
PMD:

@ matt, thanks! I must say, I've listened a couple times and don't understand the show... overthinking likely
  6:54pm
samuel henry:

thanks, matt!
  6:54pm
Mike East:

off to catch the bus. Have a great evening, all!!! - nice singing Julie!
  6:54pm
dave from knoxville:

Don't all daves have the same birthday?
  6:55pm
Matt from Springfield:

I LOVE "Waking The Witch"! I was also unaware Dave from Knoxville was such a Kate fan.

@Julie: I had suggested that song as the opening track of a set/show for you!
  6:55pm
dave from knoxville:

Hey, Night Al, want me to give them a call and let them know you're thinking about them?
  6:55pm
Ray L:

Best Show strays looking for a new home
  6:56pm
Ray L:

Dave from Knoxville, are you a regular-enough Best Show caller to be affected by the ban?
  6:56pm
dave from knoxville:

In fact, I am a huge Kate Bush fan. I found the Dreaming first and worked my way backwards, then have purchased every new release since then the week it came out. This Woman's Work is one of the very few songs that can make me cry. After all, I am a grizzled old man.
  6:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

No prob, samuel and PMD!

I frequently miss something that's said, if I'm trying to read something and listen at the same time. I once explained this on another playlist--music+reading=okay, listening to words+reading=difficult.
  6:57pm
dave from knoxville:

Best Show stray? DAMN. That hurts.
  6:57pm
Night Al:

Yes Dave! They'd LOVE that. Let me find their phone number and address for you.
  6:58pm
dave from knoxville:

Anyway, I was banned, but my ban is over.
  6:58pm
david:

Glad to see DFK here.
  6:58pm
Matt from Springfield:

That's awesome, Dave! I like a bunch of stuff from The Sensual World album "This Woman's Work" is from--they've used that in a PSA in England. Powerful.

(You should check Julie's archives, she LOVES The Dreaming!)
  6:59pm
dave from knoxville:

NIGHT PEOPLE. Tell Sandy that dave; uhhh, Ed from Chattanooga says hey!
  7:00pm
david:

that gentleman was whiskey drunk.
  7:00pm
Matt from Springfield:

Glad to have both Clay and Julie are back (and on their Normal schedule!) Have a good night everyone!

And, always remember.
  7:00pm
Night Al:

Don't forget to remember.
  7:34pm
Fredericks:

Distrust everyone in whom the urge to punish is powerful.
