Live performance by Michael Holt |

| After playing slightly off-kilter pop for eight years with The Mommyheads, Michael Holt began focusing on his own songs, full of delicate, intricate melodies. Now, after a 10-year hiatus, The Mommyheads are now back together with Michael for a new album and tour. He joined Irene in the studio to play a few new tunes and chat about his songs and the Mommyheads reunion project. | ||||||

Andrew:
Hooray for Irene! Like this start. Reminds me of the band Eloy.
|

cubicle carl:
Ahh...In a Silent Way. The mother of...well just about everything.
|
Mon. 11/22/10 12:52pm
Looms:
Hey Irene! I haven't understood yet why Cul De Sac chose that band name (translates "dead end"). They sound so good.
|
Mon. 11/22/10 12:54pm
Alan Cynic:
Great flow of sounds again.....must dig out more Curved Air!
|
Mon. 11/22/10 12:56pm
Irene:
Y'know, Looms, I've never thought about that. They certainly have musical places to go. I'll have to ask guitarist Glenn Jones sometime why they chose it.
|
Mon. 11/22/10 12:58pm
Mike East:
Glen Jones doesn't play guitar, he's a DJ, silly.
|
Mon. 11/22/10 1:00pm
Irene:
Sez You! You should know the other Glenn Jones is one of the finest fingerstyle/electric guitarists around.
|
Mon. 11/22/10 1:02pm
Looms:
Don't hurt each other, kids!
|
Mon. 11/22/10 1:03pm
Mike East:
It must be the extra "n" that does it. I must say that Glen Jones (one "n") is one of the finest DeeJays around, in this humble commenter's opinion
|
Mon. 11/22/10 1:04pm
Mike East:

glenn:
cul de sac means bottom of sack, or bag end.
|
Mon. 11/22/10 1:31pm
Looms:
Oh, cul de sac isn't used that way since the 19th century in Europe, Glenn. Maybe it still is in Canada because the language evolved differently. Here it now means "dead end" or "dead end street".
|
Mon. 11/22/10 1:37pm
Randall:
That was the perfect song for this rainy day here in sao paulo, brazil. thanks
|
Mon. 11/22/10 1:39pm

nah, canadian french isn't really that french. i reallize it means dead end. the direct, literal translation is bottom of sack.

Brian in UK:
I believe Phil Ochs played a benefit for Victor Jara who had an English wife.
|
Mon. 11/22/10 1:45pm
Looms:
Yes, it's a very nice set. @Glenn: all agreed about canadian french. I think it's much more evocative than ours, and i dig it.
