I love the nighttime for airborne events. I'm definitely getting into it, but it's been five years at dawn, so it'll take a while to fully adjust.

|
Mon. 10/4/10 9:38pm

Rick:
Dan, I was glad to hear you open with that track from Tiger Mountain. I know what you mean about that album just sticking with you for better or worse. Have you heard theDoug Hillsinger/Carolne Betty cover of the whole album?
|
Mon. 10/4/10 10:11pm
Dan B:
@Rick, oh no, what a great idea -- I need to find that cover! Thanks for the tip Rick!!
|
Mon. 10/4/10 10:14pm
Derek B:
A newbie question per the station's music library. Does the library hold "standard" rock and pop music along with the esoteric art pieces?
|
Mon. 10/4/10 10:15pm
Derek B:
I dunno, that story about Fleetwood Mac sounds like a rumor to me. Ehem.
|
Mon. 10/4/10 10:20pm
Marco:
39 years ago? Well 43 years ago on October 21st I was ejected into this world:-)
|
Mon. 10/4/10 10:20pm
Elwyn:
Happy birthday, Dan! | |
|
Mon. 10/4/10 10:25pm
Dan B:
@Derek, the library does have a lot of standard stuff, but not as much as you'd think. When I wanted to play Phil Collins' "In the Air" backwards, all I could find in the library was an interview LP with him, with blank spots in the interview for the DJ to ask the questions. And I had to dig around our little-used basement sub-library to find the first Doors LP tonight.
|
Mon. 10/4/10 10:25pm
Dan B:
@Elwyn, rthanks! | |
|
Mon. 10/4/10 10:27pm
Ike:
Hey hey hey! Listening live to the Airborne Event every week, and not just when I get up early to go hiking or visit the folks -- what a crazy and delightful new concept!
|
Mon. 10/4/10 10:29pm
Elwyn:
I've always thought that Jerry Lee Lewis was racist because of that rumoured/true story of him burning his piano so he wouldn't be billed under Churck Berry but according to Wikipedia, JJL toured with Berry and Little Richard in '98. Of course, maybe he put aside his racism for moola.
|
Mon. 10/4/10 10:32pm
Marco:
Jerry lee who? Lewis? Never heard if him???
|
Mon. 10/4/10 10:33pm
Elwyn:
@Marco: Jerry Lee was the lesser known brother of Huey Lewis. Patrick Bateman doesn't even mention his work.
|
Mon. 10/4/10 10:37pm
Dan B:
@Elwyn, too funny! Yeah, moolah appears to be a major necessity for him, given the extensive work visible on his face on the cover of this new CD. He looks a little like a garden gnome crossed with a moose.
|
Mon. 10/4/10 10:45pm
Dave:
Getting late to this.. Marco - for numbers station info, go to http://home.luna.nl/~ary - and download the E2K newsletter - it has schedules listed for a lot of numbers stations. Dan B - happy birthday, also - have you got a link for that Night Air track? I went to the site and downloaded the show that had it listed, but.. it wasnt there.

Wendy del Formaggio:
I have this comp! I got it at the Montague (Massachusetts) Book Mill a million years ago when they had a short-lived record annex. There's so much good stuff on this album! "My bathroom, my bathroom, is a special kind of place..."
|
Mon. 10/4/10 10:53pm
Dan B:
@Dave, sorry, I don't have any further info on the ABC Night Air compilation. @Wendy, ah, the Bookmill -- I love their motto: "Books you don't need in a place you can't find" -- it doesn't get much better than that. I was torn about whether to play the bathroom is a special place song or the oil song, but thoughts of the Gulf tipped the scales to oil.
|
Mon. 10/4/10 10:56pm
Wendy del Formaggio:
Dan, half the fun of going to the Book Mill is getting lost trying to find it! Haha. Seriously, though, it's in such a lovely part of Massachusetts. I miss it up there. I think you made a wise choice with Up Came Oil. Very pertinent!
|
Mon. 10/4/10 10:59pm
Dave:
No probs Dan - it's a great show, strange hearing you at this hour though :) I really enjoyed waking up and listening over breakfast, it's just 4am here now... I guess I could grab some early for old times sake.. that or sleep. I did a compilation of weird shortwave numbers and stuff I recorded last year, it's up on http://www.archive.org/details/ShortwaveSnippets3 It's truly awful quality but if you like odd sounds, terrible editing and preachers, it's for you.

Elwyn:
I've said this before on a WFMU playlist... Hendrix is awesome. Anyone who thinks John Mayer is better than Hendrix is a moron. Anyone who thinks he's in the same league is also a moron. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2215433585&ref=search Morons.
