You see a blanket on the ground. It's your favorite color, smooth and soft. You can sit on it, or lie on it. It's a flying blanket, and you are the pilot. You are in control. You can fly anywhere you wish, just by thinking about it. You are the pilot.

The Fixx? Jeebus, are they the guys that did that "The Politics of Dancing" song back in the day? You know, the politics of oooh feeling good. Erm.
  Mon. 10/4/10 9:20pm Marco:

Correction! The fix didn't do that song it was done by an 80's band called "re flex"
  Mon. 10/4/10 9:21pm Dan B:

@Derek, no that was Re-Flex. The Fixx did One Thing Leads to Another.
  Mon. 10/4/10 9:21pm Marco:

  Mon. 10/4/10 9:26pm Dan B:

I love the nighttime for airborne events. I'm definitely getting into it, but it's been five years at dawn, so it'll take a while to fully adjust.
  Mon. 10/4/10 9:28pm Marco:

I am also exited about airborne event on at night. I'm also trying not to get drunk
Mon. 10/4/10 9:28pm Wendy del Formaggio:

  Mon. 10/4/10 9:35pm Marco:

I have a shortwave radio. I've been looking high and low for these spy numbers stations they say are on the air
  Mon. 10/4/10 9:35pm Derek B:

There is something both creepy and hypnotic about numbers stations - listening to them online is like popping a can of Pringles innit?
  Mon. 10/4/10 9:35pm david:

my sincere pleasure

if brian eno had offspring would they resemble sea monkeys?
  Mon. 10/4/10 9:38pm Derek B:

I think "One Time Pad" would be a great name for a band or an album. Just saying.
  Mon. 10/4/10 9:38pm Dan B:

Re: numbers stations, just mean for spy agencies to communicate codes I think. @david, thanks for tuning in from Denver.
  Mon. 10/4/10 9:39pm Marco:

I just told two people in Sweden that they could have sex:-)

  Mon. 10/4/10 10:02pm Marco:

Oh it's dan's birthday:-) did you do any partying before you came to do your show???
  Mon. 10/4/10 10:03pm Dan B:

Marco, I AM a party, I don't need to do anything about it.
  Mon. 10/4/10 10:05pm david:

i am a party reference devoto and magazine
  Mon. 10/4/10 10:06pm Rick:

Dan, I was glad to hear you open with that track from Tiger Mountain. I know what you mean about that album just sticking with you for better or worse. Have you heard theDoug Hillsinger/Carolne Betty cover of the whole album?
  Mon. 10/4/10 10:11pm Dan B:

@Rick, oh no, what a great idea -- I need to find that cover! Thanks for the tip Rick!!
  Mon. 10/4/10 10:14pm Derek B:

A newbie question per the station's music library. Does the library hold "standard" rock and pop music along with the esoteric art pieces?
  Mon. 10/4/10 10:15pm Derek B:

I dunno, that story about Fleetwood Mac sounds like a rumor to me. Ehem.
  Mon. 10/4/10 10:20pm Marco:

39 years ago? Well 43 years ago on October 21st I was ejected into this world:-)
  Mon. 10/4/10 10:20pm Elwyn:

Happy birthday, Dan!
  Mon. 10/4/10 10:25pm Dan B:

@Derek, the library does have a lot of standard stuff, but not as much as you'd think. When I wanted to play Phil Collins' "In the Air" backwards, all I could find in the library was an interview LP with him, with blank spots in the interview for the DJ to ask the questions. And I had to dig around our little-used basement sub-library to find the first Doors LP tonight.
  Mon. 10/4/10 10:25pm Dan B:

@Elwyn, rthanks!
  Mon. 10/4/10 10:27pm Ike:

Hey hey hey! Listening live to the Airborne Event every week, and not just when I get up early to go hiking or visit the folks -- what a crazy and delightful new concept!
  Mon. 10/4/10 10:29pm Elwyn:

I've always thought that Jerry Lee Lewis was racist because of that rumoured/true story of him burning his piano so he wouldn't be billed under Churck Berry but according to Wikipedia, JJL toured with Berry and Little Richard in '98. Of course, maybe he put aside his racism for moola.
  Mon. 10/4/10 10:32pm Marco:

Jerry lee who? Lewis? Never heard if him???
  Mon. 10/4/10 10:33pm Elwyn:

@Marco: Jerry Lee was the lesser known brother of Huey Lewis. Patrick Bateman doesn't even mention his work.
  Mon. 10/4/10 10:37pm Dan B:

@Elwyn, too funny! Yeah, moolah appears to be a major necessity for him, given the extensive work visible on his face on the cover of this new CD. He looks a little like a garden gnome crossed with a moose.
  Mon. 10/4/10 10:45pm Dave:

Getting late to this.. Marco - for numbers station info, go to http://home.luna.nl/~ary - and download the E2K newsletter - it has schedules listed for a lot of numbers stations.

Dan B - happy birthday, also - have you got a link for that Night Air track? I went to the site and downloaded the show that had it listed, but.. it wasnt there.
Mon. 10/4/10 10:50pm Wendy del Formaggio:

I have this comp! I got it at the Montague (Massachusetts) Book Mill a million years ago when they had a short-lived record annex. There's so much good stuff on this album! "My bathroom, my bathroom, is a special kind of place..."
  Mon. 10/4/10 10:53pm Dan B:

@Dave, sorry, I don't have any further info on the ABC Night Air compilation. @Wendy, ah, the Bookmill -- I love their motto: "Books you don't need in a place you can't find" -- it doesn't get much better than that. I was torn about whether to play the bathroom is a special place song or the oil song, but thoughts of the Gulf tipped the scales to oil.
Mon. 10/4/10 10:56pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Dan, half the fun of going to the Book Mill is getting lost trying to find it! Haha. Seriously, though, it's in such a lovely part of Massachusetts. I miss it up there.
I think you made a wise choice with Up Came Oil. Very pertinent!
  Mon. 10/4/10 10:59pm Dave:

No probs Dan - it's a great show, strange hearing you at this hour though :)

I really enjoyed waking up and listening over breakfast, it's just 4am here now... I guess I could grab some early for old times sake.. that or sleep.

I did a compilation of weird shortwave numbers and stuff I recorded last year, it's up on http://www.archive.org/details/ShortwaveSnippets3

It's truly awful quality but if you like odd sounds, terrible editing and preachers, it's for you.
Mon. 10/4/10 11:09pm Marco In Brooklyn:

Hendrix! Yeah! I have all his work! And some bootleg concerts!
Mon. 10/4/10 11:10pm Marco In Brooklyn:

Favorite songs voodoo child and if 6 was 9
  Mon. 10/4/10 11:25pm Sean Daily:

Parts and Labor! YESH!
  Mon. 10/4/10 11:26pm Elwyn:

I've said this before on a WFMU playlist... Hendrix is awesome. Anyone who thinks John Mayer is better than Hendrix is a moron. Anyone who thinks he's in the same league is also a moron.
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2215433585&ref=search
Morons.
  Mon. 10/4/10 11:27pm Tom Miller:

Welcome to world of the night people Dan! And happy birthday too.
  Mon. 10/4/10 11:36pm Dan B:

@Tom, thanks -- how're the lungs healing? @Elwyn, it is true, Hendrix was amazing. John Mayer? Please. @Sean, glad you were as excited about P&L as I was! @Dave, that comp sounds just about my speed! @Marco, how're the teeth healing up?
Mon. 10/4/10 11:40pm Marco In Brooklyn:

I thought I had to go back and get my stitches out but I didn't need to:-) they are the kind that just melt when healed:)
Mon. 10/4/10 11:41pm Marco In Brooklyn:

Ain't easy chewin:( with 2 missing molars
Mon. 10/4/10 11:42pm Marco In Brooklyn:

Wow! That was a fast 3 hours!
Mon. 10/4/10 11:52pm Neil in NC:

Really nice set tonight. I looked up several of the artists online and am inspired to check out this stuff. Cheers.
  Mon. 10/4/10 11:55pm Dan B:

@Neil, thanks for tuning in, glad you enjoyed!
Mon. 10/4/10 11:56pm Doug in Pittsboig:
