A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

  9:09am

good morning. frost on the punkin sounds picturesque, but it's just cold, grey and damp in the hudson valley.
  9:11am
Pieter:

Good morning Trouble! Gavin Bryars, great choice!
  9:11am
chris:

Mornin'

Now, this is just lovely. Love, Judy
  9:14am
texas scott:

this autumn hymn is really nice.
  9:16am
trouble:

good day all. hey dale This weekend is the high holy days of sheep and wool at rhinebeck. but the weather looks less than stellar
  9:16am
Michele in London:

Hey, I only discovered this cool station cos I was on Michael Shelleys show last Saturday and keep tunin' in now - you play such great music. LOVE this Gavin Bryars tune. Mellow, chilled, just lovely. X

it's always a great weekend trouble. the sheepherders are so used to this.. i've never been to that show, but i know many who participate..
  9:20am
annie:

there was a smaller gathering up here at stone and thistle farm for a shpherd's neighbouring.. the food was fantastic, bon fire, shearing, good company.. and it was blustery!

Today's show is so cozy, perfect for a chilly, rainy Cincinnati day.

C'est l'heure de Trouble.
  9:29am
v k:

mownin' trouble...your show makes/keeps me happy
  9:29am
dale:

i've never been to the wool event. i always go to the antique power event in the spring to see the steam engines do their thing and blacksmithing, but it's been hijacked by antique motorcycle folk (which is cool, too). at least you'll be under cover in the barns, no?
  9:36am
annie:

they used to have an event called sheep to shawl...
  9:37am
trouble:

dale, most of the animals and wool people are under cover, but the sheep dog trials and pumpkin chuckin' are out in the fields. we will just wear our wellies...
  9:37am
trouble:

sheep to shawl! i love that...
  9:38am
Adrian in London:

Listening live for a change and happy to be doing so. I covered sheep dog trials as a local newspaper reporter. They're quite good fun, if you like sheep. Or dogs.
  9:42am
trouble:

adrian i lived in london one summer in the late 80's and fell in love with sheep dog trials, as that was all that was on the tv, except for wimbledon, it seemed...
  9:43am
Adrian in London:

And snooker, surely?
  9:45am
Chris from DC:

All I saw last time I was there was cricket.
  9:47am
Adrian in London:

And how did you like it, Chris?
  9:48am
dale:

here's some neat sheepherding. you decide if it's fake or not:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2FX9rviEhw
  9:50am
Chris:

Adrian, it's pretty interesting but I didn't fully understand it.
  9:52am
Adrian in London:

The complexity of the arcane rules are part of the joy of cricket I'm afraid. Neil hannon has done an album about cricket under the name The Duckworth Lewis method, named after the chaps who came up with the system of working out how many runs were needed to win after a match was curtailed because of inclement weather.
  9:53am
dc pat:

and what's wrong with Wimbledon???
  9:55am

Thanks for choosing these Brian Wilson sessions. There are lots of fascinating moments from these tapes.

  10:04am

cricket - anyone read New Yorker article last fall about Robert Stanford's impact (to put it nicely) on cricket? amazing read. Especially closing paragraph. Gotta love New Yorker's method of story telling.
  10:06am
Rob W:

Trouble: "I'm just trying to make all those sounds that people normally take out of audiobooks."

Tell me about it... At least I didn't have to work on the Ivanka Trump book.
  10:07am
Adrian in London:

Netherland is a great book about cricket in New York, incidentally
  10:07am

rob, i was thinking of you when i said that!
  10:10am
dc pat:

welllllll, alright then....

thanks for the Gavin
  10:12am

I am honored. I also like cricket. I remember the Caribbean cricket matches in Flushing Meadows park when I was a kid! Will check out the article that the peanut gallery has recommended...

I still think this is the weirdest top 40 tune ever. I remember hearing it on AM radio on summer vacation and it made me feel strange.

  10:37am

Ha DC PAT....I used to think they were saying "be poised and quiet" instead of "big boys don't cry"....many years later, i discovered the error of my ways.
  10:38am

thanks gp...will be siestering soon however, stone lettering engraving lessons beckon this evening!

LESLEY!
  10:43am

PMP:
As a graphic designer with a deep typography fetish, I give thee mega-kudos. That's hella-old-school, as the brats of today might say.
  10:43am
postmanpaul:

hi annie!!! ha ha, thanks! my teacher was trained by her dad who was trained by eric gill.
  10:44am
dc pat:

GP: yeah, I thought it was "be coise and quiet" or something...
  10:44am
annie:

ok... i do like this song, so sue me..
  10:46am
PMD:

Hi all - been sort of listening, mostly working. Music dropped out for a while, but I"m back. Thanks Trouble!
  10:46am
GP:

Me too Annie.

Hey Stingy.....YOu get any new neighbors yet or you still have that building to yourself?
  10:48am
postmanpaul:

hi bsi! as a 'retired' graphic designer with an abnormal degree of fondness for the letter form, its tickling my fancy enormously!
  10:49am
north guinea hills:

Damn trouble, I remember dancing/dj to this mix back in college.... damn, i'm old!
  10:49am
dc pat:

annie: my lawyers will be contacting you later this morning...

  10:50am
kham:

Hi Trouble - in the habit of playing your show during my design foundations class again - perfect. my students are all trying to understand semiotics through photoshop...
  10:52am
BSI:

PMP: funny thing about that, way too many of us are "retired" these days... Feeling like the last dodo over here.
  10:52am
postmanpaul:

bsi...eric gill, as in gill sans!
  10:54am
annie:

great pat, i could use a little excitement!
  10:55am
postmanpaul:

yeah bsi, it seems that any pimp with an apple mac believes they are a graphic designer these days. apologies to serious pimps sans macs.
  10:58am
GP:

Trouble should update the playlist via Linotype and distribute mimeographed copies to all of all...ready all at once now...hold up to nose and sniff the ammonia.
  10:58am
GP:

"All of all" usually equals "all of us"
  11:00am
postmanpaul:

...also notwithstanding your students and your good self, kham!
  11:02am
trs:

Or maybe it's a non-linear continuum of graphic designers. Fashion? Food? Photography? .. Business? Or is it yes/no like Madelaine Kahn in History of the World Part I?
  11:04am
fishmonkeystew:

The Blob! I have a '50s version of this on my ipod. Too funny.
  11:04am
kham:

If you use the word semiotics in your next mic break you'll blow their iminds, trouble...
  11:05am
dc pat:

"whadaya mean you don't do it? Everybody does it. I do it all the time. I just did it and I'm ready to do it again."
  11:06am
postmanpaul:

gp - stet. i liked it the way it was in a dyslexicographical kind of way!
  11:07am
Comicus:

But we Romans are rich. We've got a lot of gods. We've got a god for everything. The only thing we don't have a god for is premature ejaculation... but I hear that's coming quickly.
  11:08am
Gregory:

Hey! You said "every cultural phenomena"! Every phenomenON! Ack!
  11:08am
kham:

YES!
  11:09am
GP:

Comicus, you can't fail at the Palace.

Interpret Trouble Symbiotically...discuss
  11:11am
55rpm:

Trouble, Nellie McKay's latest (Doris Day tribute) is lots of fun. Got it?
  11:12am
GP:

I hear you PMP. I found an old Speedball type style guide ( probably from the 40's or early 50's) that belonged to my artist uncle.
I want to copy every letter in there....by hand.

Another vote for Nellie McKay..something about her...hmmm.
  11:12am
Laurie:

Thurston Moore got on my shit list when I saw those Nardwuar interviews.

I love that Thurston Moore inspired Andrew W.K. to not be a douchebag to interviewers.
  11:13am
Parq:

Trouble, hope you will be bringing Icepack again this year. I'm looking forward to his latest LP Modification creations.
  11:15am
Chris:

Please to elaborate on the "LP modification table."
  11:16am
trouble:

sorry to have offended gregory, but that is more likely my RI accent wreking havoc...
  11:17am
BSI:

Pray, does it involve a sewing machine and umbrella?
  11:19am
GP:

Laurie,
explain please? I'm pretty much out of every loop..or should I just search for some Andrew W.K. Interviews?
  11:24am
trent:

  11:25am

this song has a knight rider-ish vibe to it.
  11:26am
WFMU Fan:

Hey Trouble, can you play some Art Paul Schlosser... I would like to hear " I don't want to find Waldo" or you can play one of your favorite Art Paul Schlosser song, either on will do.
  11:27am

This song reminds me of a old Nintendo game
  11:29am
Mischief:

Now this sounds like Donkey Kong Jr.
  11:30am
Jim:

I listened to Nardwuar's show yesterday. Not my cup of tea.

  11:39am
Laurie:

Oh, the members of Sonic Youth were being too-cool jerks to Nardwuar and then gave him noogies and went through his stuff and smashed a rare record he brought.

Andrew W.K. saw this and decided he didn't ever want to be like that, so that's why he's such a fun guy.
  11:40am
Laurie:

PS: This is my favorite Andrew W.K. interview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6H6n_onZI0
  11:40am
timmy:

I LOVE this song!!!
