Thursdays 9am - Noon on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Thu. 10/22/09 9:08am From: Pieter

Good morning Trouble!

Thu. 10/22/09 9:09am From: texas scott

i'm sure it will be compelling and beautiful as always.

Thu. 10/22/09 9:09am From: Bad Ronald

Wouldn't that be postmodern?

Thu. 10/22/09 9:13am From: Adrian in London

Postmanpaul: are you on strike?

Thu. 10/22/09 9:15am From: annie

see, i knew that would happen... morning trouble. sorry to bug you..

Thu. 10/22/09 9:21am From: ao

Whoa, was that a RECORD SKIPPING?

Thu. 10/22/09 9:22am From: dc pat

I wish I was on strike...always..

Thu. 10/22/09 9:22am From: annie

it sure was, ao, and wasn't it a joyous sound!??

Thu. 10/22/09 9:22am From: trouble

oh yeah, there will more of that i can assure you

Thu. 10/22/09 9:23am From: dc pat

I wish I was skipping...

Thu. 10/22/09 9:32am From: JCityJensen

Great Morning - thanks Trouble!

Thu. 10/22/09 9:34am From: Adrian in London

I got my Je t'aime seven in Folkestone, UK. Anyone else?

Thu. 10/22/09 9:36am From: fern

Love this! I have this single, too. Wonderful cover.

Thu. 10/22/09 9:38am From: annie

this is where the organizer in me would do this to those cumbersome things, trouble: a rod placed on a plywood square, for however high you want the stack to be. i'd organize those puppies alphabetically by artist and separate them with paper spacers to show the beginning and end of each section.. ok, i'm done.. back to breakfast..

Thu. 10/22/09 9:40am From: dc pat

POP GROUP!! yes, baby, alright!

Thu. 10/22/09 9:41am From: dc pat

I wish I was poppy....

Thu. 10/22/09 9:42am From: Chris - Bristol

Talking of breakfast: a toast rack would suit your purposes quite well.

Thu. 10/22/09 9:45am From: texas scott

pssst..trouble,you're leaning on the turntable.

Thu. 10/22/09 9:46am From: trouble

a toast rack! yes one of those fab little brit ones! i love those...

Thu. 10/22/09 9:46am From: dc pat

hey annie: do you throw things like brown paper bags in your compost? I just did...

Thu. 10/22/09 9:47am From: joerg

is it turntable problems or is it some annoying software Ken has found to make a recording sound warped?

Thu. 10/22/09 9:49am From: trouble

ccmon now veteran wfmu listeners. i am playing with the speed on the TT...

Thu. 10/22/09 9:49am From: dc pat

it's not sticking the plastic yellow thing in the 45

Thu. 10/22/09 9:51am From: annie

pat, i have to joys of the woodstove! i use things like that to start the morning fire... around here they have banned burn barrels, so most people are just announcing that they will continue to use burn barrels or throw stuff in the woodstove.. i'm an advocate of safe incineration over landfills.

Thu. 10/22/09 9:52am From: dc pat

ah yeah, that's the way to be..oh well, can't have one of those in my dinky row house...

Thu. 10/22/09 9:53am From: trs

it sounded like a fine song by "heer'b aaalLpe^rt`"

Thu. 10/22/09 9:54am From: annie

bummer pat... they are a comfort, for sure.

Thu. 10/22/09 9:59am From: Mr. SpellCheck

reviens

merci!

Thu. 10/22/09 9:59am From: stingy d

my new favorite speed-on-the-turntable game to play involves serato! and it makes things sound demented!

Thu. 10/22/09 10:00am From: Adrian in London

God, this is great! Zut!

Thu. 10/22/09 10:01am From: trouble

merci!

Thu. 10/22/09 10:06am From: krexus

dc pat: I compost brown bags all the time (and newspaper) I find they are a great source of 'dry browns' - especially if you're like me and you don't have a lot of leaves or grass.

Thu. 10/22/09 10:08am From: dc pat

krexus: ok, thanks. I haven't read anything about composting in about 15 years so forgot what was acceptable

Thu. 10/22/09 10:18am From: trouble

hey peeps what was the wildest single you heard this week?

Thu. 10/22/09 10:24am From: C

probably that creepy thing ken played with that kid talking to "ambrose". yikes

Thu. 10/22/09 10:24am From: Chris - Bristol

I am embarrassed to admit that I only just discovered your station a few days ago (the shame of it)!. There was a crazy single called "strokin'" played yesterday which blew my mind.

Thu. 10/22/09 10:24am From: dc pat

that would be the abba tune you're playing

Thu. 10/22/09 10:24am From: annie

pat, i've always relied on rodale : http://www.compost-bin.org/the-rodale-book-of-composting/

Thu. 10/22/09 10:25am From: texas scott

ken played a 7" by skeeter davis."we need a lot more jesus"
that was strange.

Thu. 10/22/09 10:28am From: dc pat

yeah, I have Pay Dirt in my library which I think is one of Rodale's earliest works..

Thu. 10/22/09 10:28am From: trouble

chris from bristol, no embarrassment needed. we welcome all newcomers and old. bristol england or bristol RI?

Thu. 10/22/09 10:32am From: Cheri Pi

I agree, the Strokin' single really had my attention.

Thu. 10/22/09 10:32am From: Chris - Bristol

Bristol in England. Supposed to be looking for a new job although your station is causing much distraction but pleasure at the same time!

Thu. 10/22/09 10:35am From: GP

Good morning to all of my minions ! <oops, wrong speech>
ahemm

Good morning Trouble and world.

Welcome Chris From Bristol!

Thu. 10/22/09 10:41am From: jaypee

Good morning all.

Trouble, what's the bird call going on in the background right now? I heard those things all the time in Ontario and couldn't figure them out.

Thu. 10/22/09 10:43am From: dc pat

ick.

Thu. 10/22/09 10:48am From: trouble

sorry jaypee there is no way i can id the calls, they are not listed, and they are from varied birds.

Thu. 10/22/09 10:49am From: dc pat

HEY, are the bird calls on 45s??

Thu. 10/22/09 10:51am From: trouble

the bird calls are on a 10" record, the rarest of the odd vinyl family. why won't someone grve them their own week long run?

Thu. 10/22/09 10:51am From: jaypee

trouble, Oh well, it'll have to remain a mystery! Thanks!

dc pat, ooooo busted!

Thu. 10/22/09 10:55am From: dc pat

wellllll,,,, 10" is alright I guess....

Thu. 10/22/09 10:56am From: GP

This New York song has started a dance party in my office. There is smoke and strobes........<at least in my mind>

Thanks trouble.

Thu. 10/22/09 10:58am From: Cecile

Thu. 10/22/09 10:59am From: postmodernmanpaul

Thu. 10/22/09 11:03am From: trouble

good morning postman paul and all of the lovely UK. i just want you to know that I had my coffee out of a queen Elizabeth prince phillip mug this morning. can you feel it in the air?

Thu. 10/22/09 11:04am From: Carmichael

Mornin' Trouble and fellow Woof Moo-ers.

Thu. 10/22/09 11:04am From: Adrian in London

Oh, I'd forgotten how good this song is (Colourbox). Paul, shouldn't you be out by a brazier, wearing shorts and a tabard?!

Thu. 10/22/09 11:06am From: Carmichael

Doron, the WMP stream is still down. Is there an ongoing problem?

Thu. 10/22/09 11:09am From: carmichael

It shouldnt be but it looks like it just took a dip. I have it back up. Might need to take it offline for a sec in a few mins to double check something.

Thu. 10/22/09 11:10am From: dc pat

yeah 10" week would be impossible and it would suck.

Thu. 10/22/09 11:11am From: dc pat

the only good 10 inches I have are: Husker Du "8 miles high", Clash "Black Market", and the Ex "Dead Fish"

Thu. 10/22/09 11:12am From: Carmichael

Doron, I assume that was you posting as me. Thanks for checking it out!

Thu. 10/22/09 11:13am From: Laurie

Oh, I thought I heard a fake cockney accent! Oh, Kate Mosh, you silly mockney twat.

Thu. 10/22/09 11:14am From: Laurie

Did I just call Kate Nash Kate Mosh? I don't know. I mean, I know, but I don't know what's going with synapses misfiring.

Thu. 10/22/09 11:16am From: PKNY

I love me some Freda Payne. But everytime I hear the intro to this song, I think it's "Strong Island" by JVC Force.

Thu. 10/22/09 11:19am From: GP

Laurie,
So you are saying she is faking it then?

Thu. 10/22/09 11:23am From: postmodernmanpaul

trouble! notwithstanding that it should have been english breakfast tea...yes, yes i can feel it! you closet monarchist you!!!
adrian - unfortunately i will not be replete with fluorescent tabard and placard on picket duty tomorrow because we are big wuss's down here in brighton preferring to console ourselves in beckoning inns of ill repute!

Thu. 10/22/09 11:24am From: C

about a year ago i found a secos album that looked fairly recent. it was an updated cover from their first album with everyone's head coming out of the table. however, i don't think the original singer was on this album. did they reform a few years ago and put out something without him?

Thu. 10/22/09 11:26am From: Carmichael

PMP, stick it to The Man (or "The Chap", if you will)! I'm sipping away at my Harney's Irish Breakfast tea and urging you on.

You have nothing to lose but your chains.

Thu. 10/22/09 11:26am From: Carmichael

This sounds like a French version of Caravan.

Thu. 10/22/09 11:26am From: doron

real + windows media + ogg people. you are going to get knocked off for a minute. sorry. we'll be right back.

Thu. 10/22/09 11:28am From: Laurie

I think I've bought more a few records from Wolmar in Record Fairs past...

Thu. 10/22/09 11:34am From: postmodernmanpaul

Thu. 10/22/09 11:38am From: annie

Thu. 10/22/09 11:40am From: Adrian in London

PP: ah Brighton. I was down there last Sunday, seeing Spymonkey at the Corn Exchange. It's like some old church hall!

Thu. 10/22/09 11:42am From: Mr. SpellCheck

umm, brigitte?

Thu. 10/22/09 11:43am From: dc pat

anybody else bummed that Ireland got stuck with France in the World Cup playoffs?

Thu. 10/22/09 11:49am From: Cecile

No, but I am happy with them for nuturing the talent of Rodriigo y Gabriela who were phenomenal Saturday night.

Probably BIlly Jam is...

Thu. 10/22/09 11:49am From: PMD

darn, I've missed most of Trouble. guess that's why there's archives...

Thu. 10/22/09 11:49am From: Alex

I just have to say, this is one of my favorite songs ever - I actually don't like most of the rest of the album I have which contains this song, but this one is in my top 10 list - however it is "Olhos Coloridos" not Corridos" - which would be "running eyes"

Thu. 10/22/09 11:51am From: PMD

Chris in Bristol - yeah, that single blew my mind too. Ken's show in general tends to do that.

Thu. 10/22/09 11:54am From: ?

There was a diner under the West Side Highway at 125th Street (West Side Diner, I think) back in the mid-80's that had a jukebox with Clarence Carter singles on it and I fondly remember getting nasty looks from the waitress very late one night / early one monring when I put Strokin' on - gotta love that part about "you sister will"!

Thu. 10/22/09 11:54am From: postmodernmanpaul

carmichael - is this the chap you speak of?
www.thechap.net
adrian - i missed spymonkey but after viewing on utube will def look out for them next time theyre naked in this neck of the woods!

Thu. 10/22/09 11:54am From: Chris - Bristol

It made me feel slightly violated, but in a good way.

Thu. 10/22/09 11:56am From: Cecile

This Jorge Ben song is great.
I take it this is a big satirical, the way they're singing some of the lines?

Thu. 10/22/09 11:57am From: GP

PMD, Chris, wait then, that wasn't an instructional record?

ooops

Thu. 10/22/09 11:57am From: PMD

Oh my. Hearing that in a diner would REALLY blow my mind.

Thu. 10/22/09 11:57am From: Carmichael

PMP, that's too funny! You don't see those fine upstanding gentlemen in the Land of Grey and Pink.

Thu. 10/22/09 11:59am From: Carmichael

That soccer song Jorge Ben did was wonderful. I think the English translation was "Goalie Man".

Thu. 10/22/09 11:59am From: dc pat

I think Billy Childish wins Chap of the Century hands down

Thu. 10/22/09 12:00pm From: GP

I don't even collect records but I so want to go now that it has been hyped up so much. Wish I lived closer.

Thanks Wolmar for some awesome music choices.
