Congress voted down calling this holiday "president's day" in 1962. The holiday officially celebrates George Washington's birthday, but by popular sentiment it is now called "president's day",

Mon. 2/16/09 4:15pm
postmanpaul:
does that make it presidents' day or president's day unourman?!
|
Mon. 2/16/09 4:21pm
umourman:
Only a postman would notice my erroneous use of an apostrophe. The correct spelling is "Presidents Day".

I thought it was "Precedents Day".

Wow...this is a stellar set so far. The Harmonium was the perfect lead in to Cinematic Orchestra. Working today, and you're making it all right. Thanks!

13 years is a different anniversary, as Peter K. knows. It's our wedding anniversary. As for my WFMU anniversary, it's been 22 1/2 years.

First time on this site. Sweet stuff. A friend recommended it. We grew up on hardcore and have followed it through indie rock, etc since the mid-80s. props!

Irene, do you know a singer named Lydia Kavanagh? She sang on a couple of tracks on The Golden Palominos "This Is How It Feels" She also had an unsigned band called "She Never Blinks". Beautiful angelic voice. Would love to hear her on your show! Thanks for the great music!

Josh:
I was listening earlier on my way to work and was strongly reminded of how I consider much of the music on fmu to be food for my soul. Thank you for that. In particular I'm wondering which was the song that ended around 3:45 EST.

Irene:
Thanks a lot, Josh (and everybody listening too). I'm not sure about the song. Did it feature a woman singing? It might be Marissa Nadler's Heart Paper Lover.
|

Josh:
Yes, Heart Paper Lover is the one. Thanks. It has extra meaning for me because that sound of violins imitating shooting stars, I've heard it before, in a song accompanying something I have a fond memory of.
