We had to go 9 days without house water awhile ago due to a snowstorm that took out power in a wide area. We live in the woods, thankfully near a lake. I had some gallon containers of store bought water so that was drinking, cooking, washing water, but I made several daily trips to the lake with 5 gal buckets for toilets. Gives you an appreciation for what those before us had to do.

I felt the earthquake in this old 1920 building in upper Manhattan. I do have a Godzilla walker in the apartment above me. It's uninsulated between storeys, so at first I thought the person upstairs was doing a new heavy jogging in place that shook the whole building. I then said, "nah" and ran toward the center of the building. I do blame it all on NJ.

At least we have freedom of speech/assembly…not like those other countries, right?
Would have thought that after the George Floyd lynching things were moving in an anti-police way, or at least a fundamental distrust of them which led to some institutions(in Minneapolis for instance) breaking their contracts with police security on campus.
NYC is still in the process of being transformed post-9/11 into a corporate and institution sprawl, thanks to Mikey Bloomberg selling out the city (or rather giving it) to his criminal country club cronies. The sprawl of NYU, Big Tech and hi-rise “luxury living” makes a mockery out of a place no longer in reach of the artists who have traditionally come and given it life.
Bloomberg also let slip once infamously that the NYPD was “his private army.”
This transformation has become so ubiquitous two decades later than hardly anyone notices anymore how there’s a gleaming new bank on every corner, franchise corporate chains up and down our city blocks, along with of course the ever insane price-gouging in housing and at the grocery stores/restaurants.
At least in my kids’ school in Queens there have been lunchtime protest chants in the cafeteria of Free Palestine.
We need an Occupy Wall St/Black Lives Matter/Union solidarity/Free Gaza movement to record this insanity.
The fight remains the same as ever: it’s the 99% that needs unification, to defeat the real enemy.

Selfish desires are burning like fires
Among those who hoard the gold
As they continue to keep the people asleep
And the truth from being told
Racism and greed keep the people in need
From getting what's rightfully theirs
Cheating, stealing, and double dealing
As they exploit the people's fears

And for a few dollars more they'd start a war
To exploit some brother's mother
Then there's the pyramid that stands by itself
Created by Black people's knowledge and wealth
And over the pyramid hangs the devil's eye

And tells how they fooled the people
Into thinking paper money was real

Now "THESAUR" means the treasury
Where they store the gold they stole
And "AMER" means to punish
Like the slaves they bought and sold
Then "SEPTENT" means seven
Like 1776
When the thirteen devils gathered
To unleash their bag of tricks
Then "SIGEL" means the images
They've created to fool the world
Like the colors on Old Glory
The flag that they unfurled
