Andres, check out Benko's video for Atlantisz!
Cecile, that was a familiar Friday WFMU DJ
Avatar 3:20pm Cecile:

Ah....got it.
Avatar 3:21pm Cecile:

The only problem I really have with Kpop is that I now expect all songs to have a mid-90s soul groove, a rap break, a fragmented English chorus, and dance numbers that are impossible to learn.
Avatar 3:21pm Jeff Moore:

For a duck may be somebody's mother.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm tim from champaign (now washington):

Ken, I'm going to squeeze some limes and get ready for the cocktail hour. This day needs some serious transitioning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Ike:

@Cecile, I really, really miss the office, despite the commute. But we're very lucky to be able to WFH in this climate of American catastrophe. (In my case, while blasting WFMU and probably puzzling the neighbors, though they've never said anything.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Fox:

Halloooooo friends!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm iiibeat:

"Culture" is short for "cult" . . I mean that in reverse . . Actually. And in fast forward . .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm fred:

@Ike: Have you thought about setting up a pirate station to jam the other pirate stations that you've been railing about?
Avatar 3:37pm Bas NL:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm fred:

This Family of God is the best Smells Like Teen Spirit cover since Eläkeläiset!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Ike:

@fred@3:36, if I were in Flatbush, which is pirate central in Brooklyn, then maybe I'd consider it! Fortunately here in Sunset Park, I'm on the right side of the hill so that the pirates don't even mess with 91.9, much less 91.1. (I only have to walk about half a block east to reach the point where a reggae/reggaeton pirate starts stomping on 91.9, but more than a mile for 91.1 to get hurt.)
  3:42pm David in London:

Fred, yeah, I really liked that one, too.

looking back on it, it was good timing to get a haircut a week before the NBA and a chunk of the world shut down for a few months. I can depend on relatives to knit masks more than depend on them to cut hair
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm royvis:

@Paul That quote sampled from Frank Zappa's Uncle Meat album.

I lack context, was the root of the misunderstanding... I’m still not sure about that quote or where it comes from. But i sure do like the music

People like to know the shard is being well viewed. Can't fault popular tastes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Scott Williams:

FOMS. I haven't got a good view of the shard.
Avatar 4:49pm Roberto:

I don't think any view of my shard could be considered good.

You are in an interior bathroom. what do you mean you've "got a good view of the Shard"?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

I just got off the phone from an hour + support call with AT&T and I need music! Hi Handy, TDK60, Ken, Scott, everybody.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm Handy Haversack:

Hey, Lizzie! Welcome to the music zone! (You might want to get a good view of the shard.)

Mariano!

Wow, what a set that was, Scott!
  4:54pm binzo:

i'm having a shard attack over here
Avatar 4:54pm TDK60:

Hi S.C. Lizzie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm mariano:

Wait, what was that 80s movie Missing Persons were in? I remember them performing this song in it though.

Scott W: Wait, Duran Duran has a Zappa connection, or you have a soft spot for them too? If the latter, at age 14 I finally bit the bullet and started teaching myself guitar after catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror playing a racquetball racket along to "Rio" (the entire album).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm mariano:

Hey Handy!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Sweet Corn Lizzie. Sun has set on the east coast already.

I immediately got that Tim Parkinson album.

  5:06pm uptowner:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm mariano:

Handy: Maybe Dweezil was playing too, but it was definitely Frank playing the solo.
  5:08pm listener monica:

hey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Scott Williams:

@mariano, the Missing Persons movie was Lunch Wagon, and Warren of M.P./Zappa was also in Duran Duran. blog.wfmu.org...

Not sure why the rusty French parts of my brain think that band would be pronounced MEE-KROH-PUH-NEE.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm mariano:

Hey ami ad! All good here, thanks, how are you? Also: isn't that a rather personal question? ;) I know, you're probably referring to the recent storm. Had a real downpour the day before Thanksgiving, couple of streets flooded.
Avatar 5:27pm TDK60:

Oh, that was Jesse K.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Dave in VT:

Oh, Jesse, you're here. was just about to say Neighbors Noise is one my favorite shows. Man, I haven't listened to your show live in so long. Excited to have just found your website and subscribed to your newsletter.

Avatar 5:36pm Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey Dave, thats awesome, thanks so much :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Carmichael:

Amariano et al, you're likely referring to WP from Does Humor Belong in Music. That was Bobby Martin on lead vocals, and a wild jazz fusion Frank solo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Rtintera:

it's weird hearing Russian on WFMU while I'm preparing Russian classes.

As a Zappa fan, I'm looking forward to seeing the doc. I remember when it was a Kickstarter campaign, then the Zappa trust blocked it. I guess they had to take control.

For a minute I thought this must be Micah’s show
  5:41pm Cumbia Phil:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Handy Haversack:

Yeah, there was a whole thing about the villain from Mandy having works seeded here in what we think of as the real world, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm iiibeat:

Probably the only time I'll ever share a verse like this . . But . .
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

@Krys, there's been a huge royalty battle between (Let's see if I can get the teams right) Ahmet & Diva vs Dweezil & Moon. don't know if it ever got ironed out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Krys O.:

I know! The trust forced Dweezil to stop performing Frank's music live. Gail was extremely litigious and the less musical children too her side.

I wonder, Did jimmy page rip off these chords for “Thats The Way”? Or vice versa?

It's probably like those *cough* real Sherman Hemsley liner notes for the fake Aphrodite's Polyp album.
