Venting: An Italian friend has been stuck in Paris for a week. He teaches at Berkeley, was in Europe for work and got stopped at the airport and interrogated. He'd been careful and showed letters from Berkeley lawyers and the state dept. allowing him back in to the officer. She replied "I don't care, I'm immigration and they're not, no way you're going back". He's been couch surfing for a week, while his partner and kids are in SF wondering whether they'll be deported

@Sylvia: Teaching is remote, but there are conferences, and since he's a composer, premieres (he teaches electronic music at CNMAT). Agreed, I wouldn't have done it, but he sought and got ample backing. His mistake was thinking the State department had any weight in this administration
  7:35am Earth Walker:

Fred was he carrying drugs bad breath CIA. I remember being frisked all time about 20 years ago I ended up always telling them In a sincere apologetic way I was homophobic ( which wasn’t true but worked ) Then female guards would then frisk me. They didn’t like it when I played with the situation I’m not a big fan of men’s thumbs pressing up against my testicles
In the end it worked Haven’t been frisked in 20 years Always for fun !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36am Pablexa™:

  7:39am David in London:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41am fred:

@Pabs: he has no clue, the denial isn't virus-related, it's about the H visa. He'd like to go to Italy and stay with family, but if he gets the go ahead from the US he has a short window to get to the Paris airport, and borders might be closed by then. Very stressful times for him
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41am CarolCrow:

@Roger@7:30: Really?? My cat, Poppy, seems unperturbed...then again, I have my headphones on...

Avatar 7:52am Sylvia (France-NYC):

@pab I also use the US citizens line at border, for being a returning ESTA, but there's still the questioning by an agent part to go through

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07am theia:

Avatar 8:08am John from NP:

I'll catch it on the archive, thanks Carol.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08am Pablexa™:

@ Long Hair posts - I have had long hair (on & off) for the last 30 years and just recently "had" to get it cut, as due to nerve damage in my right hand, I couldn't put it in a ponytail anymore and I was having to wake my wife up every morning to help - That didn't work well.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09am Ken From Hyde Park:

You should apply for a slot on the Rock 'n' Soul stream like a couple other DJs, Carol. Bonus: You can cuss like a sailor on your mic breaks.

Swag For Life Member 8:13am 12539:

Carol, I tune in to hear what you like, not what I like, because you often know what I like before I do.
Avatar 8:15am John from NP:

@Carol What was the piece with the cell soloist that you played earlier?
Avatar 8:20am Fredericks:

Hey, LiXiviated Life, what is the word after "heading" in your 7:16 AM Herzog quote? I don't recognize it and assume it is a typo.
Avatar 8:20am DL in LA:

Dropping in from LA for a bit. Been sounding fine. And not too rowdy, which is good for 5 AM-ish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21am Pablexa™:

Hiya Deborah!
Avatar 8:27am Deborah:

Hi Pablexa! Yes, I love Sunday and Saturday early mornings! Weekdays too, but a different energy.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29am Pablexa™:

Avatar 8:33am Deborah:

@Pablexa. Yes, I want to lessen my teaching burden right now. Going to teach one less course starting next semester. Want to have time to just be. So, I hear you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34am WR:

@Fredericks @820, I think the Herzog quote was meant to read "heading for an era". I puzzled over for a bit as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35am Pablexa (TM):

@Deborah - I work in a school system, so I get it, but I dunny have to deal with students in the way a Teacher does
