hippies are called hippies because they shoot heroin in their hips (i was told by a friend in grade school). still, i don't know if they deserve death (maybe looking out for myself here, as i have been mistaken for a hippy)
mariano!
Avatar 3:17pm Irwin:

LoT: Ribot grew up in Maplewood NJ, same town as me. He's three years younger. That would be Columbia HS. I graduated with Max Weinberg. I played drums. Max was a drummer.
  3:17pm Laura L:

Thanks, Carmichael! Hello all who are here in this wonderland.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Handy Haversack:

Hey, Mariano!

Too bad listener Snoochienucci isnt here. He sent me a cover of this tune he and his brother made.

Sorry, spod, thinking of Madness made me think of The Young Ones and in one of the two(!) eps. where Madness appears, Rick murders Neil. Or so he thinks!
Avatar 3:18pm Itzall Tumánnio:

can not see this guy's name without thinking of the (SCTV?) character, "Earl Camembert". Pretty cheesy, the both of them.
  3:19pm Hippy Haperhoop:

I'm free-associating and micro-dosing to the tunes of Bert Kaempfert.
Avatar 3:19pm Irwin:

Kaempfert ain't cheese. He's a fine wine.
  3:20pm Dean:

When I see Bert Kaempfert, I think of this record -- https://www.discogs.com/Johnny-Mathis-Johnny-Mathis-Sings-The-Music-Of-Bacharach-Kaempfert/master/394104 -- which I have and listened to not too many years ago.

Wait, speaking of Japanese Beatles, anybody remember a few years back when FMU was playing music by this Japanese guy who basically re-recorded all the Beatles songs using the same types of instruments and equipment? I was trying to remember who it was and looked online, but no luck.

It occurs to me that we might not have enough time left as a species to give that much effort to song parodies. Let’s keep that in mind.

OK, Mr. Snuggles and I are going to see about taking this show (Irwin's) on the road! That is, to the back porch. Sun is shining. Ice is melting!

I actually met Buckminster Fuller  very briefly a long time ago. I approached him after his lecture to ask a question. As I started to speak he stopped me and said "I learned everything I know by answering my own questions." A stock answer I'm sure for dealing with inquisitive undergraduates, but one I nonetheless took to heart.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Handy Haversack:

I was wrong. What I thought was my last can of cider is actually a farmhouse ale brewed with salt and lime. Kind of a wild ride!

I miss brewing, Crudbringer. Used to do a lot of it, but my buddy with a nicer apt. more set up for such pursuits moved away. Still have some gear, though.

I got the first Radiohead album, found it to be standard mid-90's alternative, nothing special. When Ok Computer came out, it was praised to the high heavens, so I took a listen. It was immaculately produced, but I fell asleep listening to it. I feel like they fit into the ecomusilogical niche that 70's Pink Floyd once occupied, very well produced music that won't make you think or feel anything.

Hey Motobro. Hi Chris.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Mr. Pumpy:

mariano, it was around '83...Killroy Was Here tour. The beginning of the end. It was cool though. No opening act, just that 30 minute film they had made about the whole concept behind the album. Man, Dennis DeYoung, while talented, really tried his best to make them into a Broadway musical. I red an interview not long ago where James Young said of Mr. Roboto, "What that song did is it killed a whole lot of people's interest in our music."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm chris:

hi, David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm mariano:

Handy: I'm not really familiar with their discography, just the few hits that saturated 70s rock radio. I think the main differentiation is that Tommy Shaw's stuff ("Too Much Time") is more rock oriented, while Denis De Young's stuff is gaudy rock-opera oriented (and I think what ended up doing in the band).
  5:24pm FلFل (:

Hi, Handy! Nice to read you again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Mr. Pumpy:

@Handy, that is true of a lot of them. They actually rocked out pretty hard for a good time. And yes, they had a chameleon-like way to songwriting. They seem to be doing well enough with a new singer these days, but I don't really know about new material or anything.
