Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm WR:

Book Off didn't close their NYC store. They moved off of 43rd Street and my shelves and pocket book gave a sigh of relief because somehow I just never get over to the 45th Street location. When I go to Japan I spend a day at the Akihibara location and they sell via Amazon Japan too. My daughter grumped when I ordered something and had it delivered to her in Tokyo to hold until I made my next visit. Everything is conspiring to make me just go totally digital.

So did you select these from the names and song titles?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm Gary:

Partially, but mostly flow
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm Gary:

He said as the shitty transition transpired
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm chresti:

Ha did not notice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm chresti:

I meant when you purchased them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm Charlie:

I forget, do you read Japanese, Gary?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm Gary:

OH, haha -- that's more complicated because sometimes it's because I knew the band sometimes the name was too much not to pick up and sometimes it was the image or design
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm Gary:

I learned to read hiragana, briefly, but alas, that's it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm Charlie:

Yeah, I often bought Japanese-only releases by bands who'd had some American releases, or by look. On a few occasions, I bought the CD they were playing in the store.
Avatar 7:30pm LambdaCalculus:

I've bought bis albums through their Japanese releases, since they get more tracks included.
Avatar 7:32pm LambdaCalculus:

It was on 41st Street originally. They moved to 45th because of how much they outgrew the old store.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm WR:

Oh, right, 41th.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Charlie:

love tenniscoats
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Carmichael:

Heya Gary. Late working these days ...
Avatar 7:35pm LambdaCalculus:

I remember the 41st Street Book-Off store had tons of Japanese VHS tapes. Being a giant trashy anime nerd back in the 90s, I used to grab tons of tapes there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm Gary:

Carmichael!
  7:40pm Jreems:

I love Tenniscoats so much. Their stuff coming out of spirit fest has been really good

Doing OK here in Richmond CA. Been working from home for a few weeks now. I live with a lot of family, so I'm not too isolated on a day-to-day basis. Hope y'all are holding up, staying safe and afloat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm Gary:

Things here are good -- I'm getting out for some sun when I can and working hard otherwise

Avatar 7:53pm tim abdellah:

Hi Carmichael - hope things are OK in Sacto. The governor seems pretty sensible, when I've seen him speak recently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm Carmichael:

We're doing OK, Tim. I'm in County purchasing, so we're running around with our hair on fire.

Avatar 8:06pm LambdaCalculus:

What I find really funny is that Book-Off sent back all their Japanese CDs, but got in a bunch of Japanese video games in turn.
  8:07pm rw:

Evening! We’re making beef stew.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm Gary:

RW!
Avatar 8:07pm Franco Twinkie:

Okay! Let's talk about food! I am about to make a tomato, garlic, arugula sauce to slop over ravioli.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm coelacanth∅:

nothing new. rice, legumes, vegetables.
i love it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm Gary:

I see you picking up a lot of stuff at Book-Off on your twitter, Lambda-C
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm chresti:

Having a banana.
Avatar 8:10pm LambdaCalculus:

Yeah, all the Super Famicom games I managed to snatch up! :)
Avatar 8:10pm LambdaCalculus:

Gary, check this channel out; it's a bunch of really good Filipino recipes: www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm WR:

I've been happy with having a reasonable selection of restaurants nearby for pickup and sharing with my partner (we budget ourselves to twice a week just as we did for going out). I hope the restaurants are able to stay open. Many have not. I'm missing being out seeing other people enjoying themselves.
Avatar 8:11pm LambdaCalculus:

If you can manage to get to Phil-Am Food Market in Woodside (on the 7 near the 69th Street stop), they can help you get some of the needed ingredients.
  8:11pm peter:

my new favorite that i've learned since confinement is a fish-ball basil stir-fry with a fried egg over rice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm Charlie:

lovely boredoms
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm Gary:

Oh, thank you! Actually, I stopped in at a Philippine market in my neighborhood Saturday! I wonder if I can get the ingredients there -- it was small, but well-stocked, on 30th Ave here in Astoria
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm WR:

Phil-Am in Woodside is closed for the duration. Walked past there on Sunday. I was checking to see if Ihawan was open for pickup/delivery. They had a sign saying they would be but weren't open on Sunday at 6PM. Took down a phone number but havent called yet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm Gary:

Peter, what does a fish ball have in it besides fish? Or is it just fish? I've never understood how they are made
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm Gary:

CHARLIE WHEN ARE YOU COMING BACK TO RADIO?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm WR:

I think fish balls are to fish like bologna is to pork, both with some variations.
Avatar 8:16pm LambdaCalculus:

There's a Philippine market in Astoria!? NICE!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm Charlie:

Dunno, Gary. Still too swamped navigating other life paths. But I think about it, so it could happen!
Avatar 8:17pm hyde:

Avatar 8:18pm hyde:

also, i am very sorry to miss the filipino fish ball discussion
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm WR:

OK speaking of food, time to cook something and eat it, so for the duration ya'll be spared my pithy ramblings but will continue listening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm Gary:

Yes! www.yelp.com...
Avatar 8:18pm tim abdellah:

Hey Hyde! Hang in there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm Gary:

Hyde! I just mentioned you earlier vis-a-vis Doji Morita, who you turned me on to
  8:19pm peter:

mine contain "fish meat, tapioca starch, corn starch, water, egg white, salt, msg, white pepper, garlic, onion and baking powder".. i buy them from the freezer section!
Avatar 8:20pm Franco Twinkie:

WR, we have lots of restaurants around us as well, but here in L.A. they're saying this week is going to be really bad, so stay home. I'm an old fucker, so I take the warning seriously. Hopefully we will once again mindlessly eat wherever we want, But right now....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm Charlie:

This discussion reminds me: I'm out of Thai curry paste, a staple in my diet. I must order some!

Charlie i ordered pop tatari a few years ago used -my preferred way and it came in a chocolate synthesizer package. it took some deep research to figure out which one, if either, that i got, since their packaging is usually a bit of a riddle.

Shit. I'm determined to make it through the 3CD record of Zelenka's orchestral music before tuning in here. Got another 40 minutes or so...which means I miss this altogether. OK, fuck Zelenka.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm WR:

Franco @820. I understand. This morning the plan was for me to go to grocery store at 7am for seniors only shopping. My partner had to wait 2 hours to get in the store at 8am on Sunday. But for the last two times for seniors only I was waved right in. This morning I cowered in bed and said, tomorrow, tomorrow, I'll go tomorrow.. . . . .
