How's quarantined life?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02pm Gary:

It's increasingly weird, but okay, ultimately. How are you holding up?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02pm chresti:

Hi the Bodegas and Gary! Hi Lambda!
Avatar 7:04pm LambdaCalculus:

Heya chresti! Doing work from home, gardening, reading, and lots of cooking!
Avatar 7:04pm TDK60:

Hello Gary and Bodegans. My attention will be divided for a while here between a news show, this show and an article to read. 3-way brain...

I want to go to Renee's in Woodside again so damn bad!

Heya Gary, long time no hear!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm Gary:

Hey there, Chresti, TDK, and Carmichael!
Avatar 7:07pm LambdaCalculus:

Sounds like the audio is cutting off a bit.

Avatar 7:08pm TDK60:

..increasingly weird is right Gary. Biggest problem for me so far is inside my head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm Gary:

How's the sound now?
Avatar 7:08pm LambdaCalculus:

Found the problem: my stream stopped.
Avatar 7:09pm LambdaCalculus:

Audacious had crashed.

Gary, you're in Queens?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm Gary:

Yes, Astoria! Where are you, TDK?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm Carmichael:

Lambda, you're not quarantined?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11pm ParUbi:

Good evening, everyone! Hi, Gary!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm Gary:

You must be seeing less traffic, TDK -- I'm right near the RFK, and noticing a lot less traffic these days
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm ParUbi:

I love this, she's great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm Carmichael:

Information released today indicates that one third of our confirmed COVID cases trace back to church gatherings.

Just checking, Lambda. Making sure we all suffer equally :)
Avatar 7:17pm LambdaCalculus:

There is very little traffic even in my town. I went for a morning walk today to get a little exercise in and the main road was deathly quiet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm chresti:

I know, the last two weeks I worked, it took a lot less time to get there@Carmichael

Avatar 7:36pm northguineahills:

Thanks for my sndtrk for my daily constitution.
Avatar 7:37pm TDK60:

Chresti, I've been writing myself notes: not to lose my temper, use humor, take deep-slow breaths. And try to get a walk while I can. More reading and movies, and playin' guitar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm chresti:

WFMU is a constant companion, that helps for sure. Along with the thing Marcel's lighting up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm Gary:

Avatar 7:41pm TDK60:

I think I told you Chresti but I've been taking midnight walks in order to better avoid people. It's been surreal, the city almost empty. Thanks to my two neighborhood bodegas (Arab-run) that are open all night.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm chresti:

I've gotten to the point that I'm at a Food Network kitchen challenge to see what food I can make for how cheaply I can make it, b/c the question is, booze or food. I have a job ready to start, and potentially a real one, but... nothing is going to start any time soon....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm Webhamster Henry:

so @ngh, how did the census go? How many did you count?
Avatar 7:53pm northguineahills:

It's postponed indefinitely, Henry. I just got an an email from the FL Dept of Agriculture asking me to sign a shit ton of docs, so I guess that interview went well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm chresti:

I saw some tp on e-bay, 12 rolls for $79,or something like that.

My landlord is letting rent slide for now, it seems.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm Webhamster Henry:

Jobs, I remember them!
My landlord cut my rent in half - but I had already pid it, so .. I get a month off.

My landlord is foregoing rent until everything is back to normal.

I wear 2 bandannas and rubber gloves on my walks. When I get home, throw the gloves away, wash the bandannas right away. // Our landlord wants April rent. (!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm WR:

speaking of census, I've not done that yet. No real reason except generally being pissed off at the executive branch and becoming numb to the constant barrage of emails from the dems and lib lefties orgs that I've supported in the past desperate calls to action and donation requests. and my usual habit of putting off paper work to the last minute.
Avatar 8:01pm Franco Twinkie:

Hi Gary. Aside from the usual stuff, I've been working on various video projects - by myself.

Avatar 8:04pm Franco Twinkie:

WR, me too! That's my approach to paperwork in normal times, but now I'm thinking, who the hell cares about this shit?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm Gary:

TDK: I've done B.F. set in the past, just versions of/nods to her comme a la radio
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm Cmurtha:

My days are very much the same as they were before. Working on the diss, today was spent painting miniatures which was lovely.

@north I am so sorry to hear that, hopefully things turn around soon, though from anything I've heard or seen the governor of Florida is being particularly stupid about this.

hi gary, no theme random show today? still sounds good tho.
Avatar 8:10pm spodiodi:

aloha, Gary and company. to your health!
thanks for the show!
Avatar 8:10pm Franco Twinkie:

still b/p, That is sad. Yesterday they were playing Fountains of Wayne on KCRW. The DJ was trying to be hopeful about his situation, but alas...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm WR:

WH Henry, recently looked for some census numbers and I looked at wikipedia pages. For 2010 and 2000 at least they detail the ethnicity questions. Interesting to see the changes. It is a complex matter that can have some use but also liable for manipulation for political and economic reasons. I am mixed in response to their approach and in my answers as well.
Avatar 8:10pm spodiodi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm Gary:

There IS a theme, zzmm; it's an OuLiPoan struck-chure, kinda. Hi! And hi, Spodiodi!
Avatar 8:11pm northguineahills:

I'm passionate about the census, if done correct. Especially since it get federal funding to communities that need it if everyone is counted. The GOP doesn't like that.

@Cmurtha: out gov is a mini-orange shitgibbon, w/ just a slighly higher IQ (hence him givimh the shelter-in-place order today.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm Cmurtha:

I was shocked when the gov. of Ohio (who is a dirt bag) delayed the primaries and has handled this so well despite everyone in his ilk encouraging him to ignore it...But the gov. of Florida had to "show strength' and refused to delay the primary. cmurtha (/cmurdah), have you used the flimsy-looking afterthought attached-to-american-crapper style yet? and if so, what did you think?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm WR:

Random music comment. Being a New Orleans refugee, I always pay attention when someone covers a NOLA tune. The Lords in 1967 were doing Rockin' Pneumonia with was first released in 1957. A 10 year gap. 1970 (for simple math purposes) was 50 years ago. Also very interesting to reflect on the pop rock changes in the 5 years from 1967 to 1972. I wonder if they seem so great just because I was active consumer during that time. Does a 20 year old now hear similar major change from 67 to 72.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm Meghan:

We were going up to say bye to a friend of ours who will be moving to Seattle. Though, he won't be leaving anytime soon, so we may be able to try that again!
Avatar 8:18pm spodiodi:

a proper bidet is one thing, but those beeping integrated toilet seats are kinda unnerving
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm Gary:

Oh, man! I didn't realize that, Meghan -- well, it sounds like you've got a great reason to try again when the worst of this is all over
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm Cmurtha:

I used one of those once at an Arab friends house, it worked well enough? The worst thing I ever had to use was what was essentially a sink hose attachment in Azerbaijan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm chresti:

Avatar 8:20pm spodiodi:

When I was a kid in Japan, out cross-the-street neighbors invited us for dinner (this was 1987). They had a toilet w/ a seat that could be warmed, blow hot or cold air up your bum, and a bidet. My bros. and I were fascinated by it. So, my brother goes in there, accidentally sets off the bidet, and couldn't turn it off. He got me, and asked me to turn it off. I had been in the country for almost a year, so my hiragana was crap, so I couldn't figure it out (I was 11). So, the bathroom got flooded w/ 5 cm of water before we came out of the bathroom and begged our hosts to turn it off. They laughed (we weren't invited for dinner again, but allowed to played in their factory industrial lot after work hours.

i like that you mention number of years with a decimal, Gary
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02pm Gary:

Haha, b/c I was reading verbatim!
Avatar 9:03pm TDK60:

..thanks Gary. I recall I got my first computer around '94. Began using email in '98.
Avatar 9:04pm TDK60:

..a gloomy new UK rock band told me it was "OK".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm WR:

Doing the census online was reasonably painless. Much easier than I remember with the forms. Now more paper for the recycle bin. The "race" questions allow for multi-ethnic identifying people. They do use the questionable term "race" instead of ethnic origin, but whatever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm chresti:

I started using e-mail in 98, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Gary & all

Heya coelacanth0!

..my first email was a free courtesy via a local public TV station! It broke down often and I called the fellow at the station a lot; I added gray to his hair..

Granny ST!
Avatar 9:18pm TDK60:

Granny. I've gotten odder, wackier, since we last spoke. The "crazy stirs" I hear they call 'em. But I don't think WFMUers mind or notice all that much.
Avatar 9:18pm spodiodi:

was sending first internet email in 89 and bbsing since maybe 83. i love my computer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

TDK60: thanks for the update, i'll put that in my chart. <3 <3 <3

My first email was Prodigy.net, I believe in 1989. I only emailed my friends, as I had no idea what else do w/ it, being 13.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

great to see you, spodiodi!
Avatar 9:23pm LambdaCalculus:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm coelacanth∅:

i got set up with an email account c.2009; received my first spam maybe 5 years ago (?); had my first personal (non-commerce or government-related) email within the past 2 years.
i'd like to do a lot less of this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

TDK60: i am keeping careful tabs on everyone's wackiness

i think i started using email in 94 or 95, back when Quark Express was my best friend
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm Webhamster Henry:

I was on a lot of "pre internet" mail systems, via dialups, bang paths, VAXmail, etc. I actually wrote an email server / rules engine in 1997.
Avatar 9:31pm Franco Twinkie:

Okay, I just did an hour walk. Do I feel better? Kind of. At least I don't feel any worse. I'll improve my sleep, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm coelacanth∅:

spodi -less time dealing with emails. it's time-consuming reviewing them, even if i'm just deleting the majority of them.
Avatar 9:32pm LambdaCalculus:

I had a nice walk this morning. Went to a Mexican bodega a couple of miles down the road from my house, bought a breakfast cemita, came home, started work from home.
Avatar 9:33pm LambdaCalculus:

Just weird to see my town so deathly quiet.
Avatar 9:33pm LambdaCalculus:

Webhamster Henry, those were fun days!
Avatar 9:33pm Franco Twinkie:

I could use a cemita right about now.

Police cruiser just went partway down my street and back again with a searchlight checking the streetsides. Whuttup? Is it a normal abnormality in the neighborhood, or about the shutdown thing -- though that seems unlikely -- or what...? These times, these times.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar 9:58pm LambdaCalculus:

Thanks for the tunes, Gary!
Avatar 9:58pm still b/p:

Don't think we have a curfew.
I stood inside the storm door and watched them return up the street. "I am a citizen and I SEE you!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm WR:

I shared a chicken milanese cemita Sunday night. When partner went to pick it up, she found that they had the door locked, you had to call and the cook brought your order to the door and handed it out. Lots of chipotle peppers and Mexican mozz. sadly no papalo. So huge could barely eat half.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm coelacanth∅:

it's what you gotta do s b/p.
