@Gary - Ahoy, captain! Sounding good out here in the plains :)
Avatar 7:21pm still b/p:

"Spicy tuna" is nice in Italian -- "tonno piccante." But if I ever hear that phrase read from a gelato shop menu, I'll know that Satan has gained dominion over all the earth.
Avatar 7:21pm βrian:

Wait, what is a bodega, again? Some kind of music sandwich?

Tastes pretty good.

βrian!
Avatar 7:23pm βrian:

... which reminds me that I 've never had seitan gelato.
Avatar 7:25pm TDK60:

My neighborhood has 2 all-night bodegas open, hats off to them.
Avatar 7:25pm Franco Twinkie:

For a second I read the name of those musicians as Carpeteria, a rug store we use to have our here that had a big genie on the roof holding a rolled up carpet over his head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm Gary:

Having grown up in California, I remember Capeteria all too well
Avatar 7:27pm Franco Twinkie:

You're from here? Where?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm chresti:

Lucky you, TDK60.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm spodiodi:

reminded me of same, the name, at least... i don't really remember the genie, but he's impressive looking
Avatar 7:30pm βrian:

My neighborhood has 2 all-night owls who provide running commentary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm chresti:

I remember the ads, Come to Carpeteria!
More confusing if you live in Carpinteria.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm Gary:

CARPINTERIA! Could you tell I was almost saying that instead of Capeteria?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm chresti:

Now we dance.
Avatar 7:35pm LambdaCalculus:

I love the sound of this track!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm spodiodi:

or Carmine the Carpenter, located next-door to the Carpeteria in Carpinteria
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm spodiodi:

i'm bobbing my head, Lambda
Avatar 7:36pm TDK60:

Yes, Chresti, one of them is more food oriented, the other with lottery, small products, lighters, phone cards, tweezers, you know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm chresti:

We have a donut shop that also sells stuff like that.
Avatar 7:41pm TDK60:

..the second one even usually has an open box of Maxell 60s or 90s! 2 smackeroos.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm Gary:

@TDK60: What cassette player would you recommend to help me digitize my library of old Arabic, Turkish, and Cambodian cassettes?
Avatar 7:44pm Franco Twinkie:

Gary,King City, wow! John Breckow, a DJ who was on KPFK,told me he was arrested for having the nerve to try and hitch hike through King City. He said the cop got a robbery in progress call when he was in the back seat of the cruiser, so in a move that was worthy of Barney Fife took him to a Texaco station and hand cuffed him to the sink in the rest room so he could go confront this criminal without some hippie in the back seat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm Gary:

Avatar 7:48pm TDK60:

Gary, Marantz makes a tape deck for digitizing, probably not too expensive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm Gary:

Thanks, TDK! It needn't necessarily be to-digital ready, as I could always run it through the mixer and into the computer from there into Audacity. Does the Marantz sound good?
Avatar 7:53pm TDK60:

..they should sound good and if ya have a mixer you might enhance it yourself..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Gary:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm spodiodi:

been liking the Kult, Gary. more stuff that's new to my ears, afaik.
  8:52pm slawooy:

Hi Gary, you might like EKV, a band from Serbia from 90’s. This sound reminded me of them
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm Gary:

Slawooy! I will have to check them out ... what does EKV stand for?
  9:03pm slawooy:

It stands for Ekaterina Velika, Catherine the Great, but they were known simply as EKV (ae-kha-vae);) there’s a whole network of new wave bands...no wait you’ll love Croatian band Haustor and later work of their frontman Darko Rundek!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm Gary:

I think I might have heard EKV! But definitely have NOT heard Haustor ... will do some digging for both ... thank you, Slawooy!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14pm Gary:

Jesus ... fingers crossed for you. I can't imagine what this has been like for so many.
  9:15pm Dean:

I played Bobo Yéyé a couple days ago, and I sure would love to tune in here right now, but I just put Yes's Tales from Topographic Oceans on the main system. Catch you all after "Revealing Science of God"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm Gary:

Haha, hi Dean! I saw Yes "in the round" in the 70s as a kid, I think it was my first super huge arena concert
  9:18pm Dean:

Me, too. I saw that concert as well as the two prior tours, the '75 one being my first. (You never forget.) The '76 show was at a baseball stadium and among the loudest three concerts ever.
  9:20pm Dean:

Perhaps one does forget. There was also the Vegas show in there somewhere. Last time I've ever been in that town.
Avatar 9:23pm TDK60:

..sorry to hear that Mayuko; me too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm Gary:

Tonight at 10 PM sharp-ish, Sam Segal's If You Lose Your Horse brings you "Doesn't Everybody Love Their Horse?" wfmu.org...
Avatar 9:28pm Mayuko:

@TDK60 Thank you! I've been freelance for so long that I'm kinda used to unstable income / future being uncertain. It must be much more stressful for those who had full time jobs and family to support. Hope things will work out for both of us and everyone.
Avatar 9:29pm WR:

Hi folks, have had stream on in the background, relaxing now and focusing on the music for the rest of this show.

Marcel, I used to go to that Tower Records store a lot as a kid, along with the NYC one on Broadway at West 4th!
Avatar 9:41pm Marcel M:

East 4th?? I frequented that one as well. I worked at the NJ one from like 2006 till they closed on and off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm Gary:

Marcel! San Francisco!
  9:41pm Dean:

I spent one weekend traveling to more than a handful of Tower Record stores in the LA area in search of a record. Didn't find it. A couple weeks later I walked into my buddy's suburban store at the east end of LA County. There on the counter it sat. He sold it to me for fifty cents.

  9:46pm Dean:

Oh, yeah. RSoG ended a few minutes ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm Charlie:

Love these De La remixes! Couldn't tune in until the Oum Kalthoum set. Hey, Gary, who's the band in the picture?
  9:48pm Dean:

I used to find so many mispriced (in my favor) records at the Berkeley store.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm Gary:

Charlie! I'm not positive, but I *think* it's Volta Jazz?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm Charlie:

Whoever they are, I would like to be there!
Avatar 9:50pm LambdaCalculus:

I walked into the Tower Records in NYC with an empty backpack and walked out of there with the bag loaded to nearly its breaking point when they were closing up shop for good. Raided both the Music and the Video sides.
