Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Avatar 11:57am Franco Twinkie:

Bummer, PSS, what was the culprit?
Avatar 11:58am WR:

Still thinking about requests but I got one in mind and they always say starting is the hard part. Work keeps distracting but I'll figure it out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm pacific standard simon:

Haven't decided if it was the salmon or the spaghetti with meat sauce.

It's always a good policy to stick with cookies on Christmas, Simon.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm coelacanth∅:

good morning Uncle M in topeka and good afternoon or whatever elsewhere
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Doug Schulkind:

Oh my what a treat to not be rushing off to work right after my show and to just sit and wallow in the greatness of the Hinky!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm pacific standard simon:

I see that Lee Mendelson, who produced A Charlie Brown Christmas, died ON Christmas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm doctorjazz:

Are you kidding? I've been obsessing over my choices no end!
Got some ideas on artists, but being artists I really like, many songs in the catalog to pick. And then there's always the question...should I request Jelly Roll Morton's "Doctor Jazz"? Such difficult life choices!
Avatar 12:42pm WR:

Dave the Spazz did extensive segment on LaBeef last night, including several anecdotes, first, second and third person. Recommended.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

hello, UM and Hinky Dinksters!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Uncle Michael:

They got lost.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm coelacanth∅:

oh jesus -rest in peace Lee Mendelson
-and Sleepy LaBeef, and Jerry Herman (who i'd never heard of)
Avatar 12:45pm WR:

Hi GST! I think I recall UM was calling your name earlier. Or was that in one of the other time threads I drift through.. .
  12:46pm dan:

@WR The first time I ever heard of Sleepy LaBeef was actually seeing him live in a rockabilly set opening for Nick Lowe at Lincoln Center's Damrosch Bandshell. You can't forget a name like Sleepy LaBeef.

@Coelacantho
You have to be a New York Broadway fan to know who Jerry Herman is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm coelacanth∅:

kiss not totally sucking.
i'm confused.
  12:47pm no music snobs please:

huh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

WR: the sad irony of my year has been that i adopted UM this year, and then my schedule changed in such a way that i have rarely been able to synchronize with Hinky Dinky Time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Uncle Michael:

That is very sad.
Avatar 12:48pm WR:

@dan! I was at that Lincoln Center concert too. Great show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm doctorjazz:

I saw Sleepy years back, fun show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

i really gotta arrange it so i don't miss the requests show. AND i gotta send in my request!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Uncle Michael:

Yes, you do!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm coelacanth∅:

UM i could send in requests but i may not be able to listen to the show on that day. should i send 'em anyway?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Uncle Michael:

Yes, please! On you're honor...listen to the archive, though. OK?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm coelacanth∅:

that'd be my pleasure! Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Doug Schulkind:

If Bronwyn Bishop was on this evening with Acid Jazz Hands, she would be playing mucho Jerry Herman. (She already emailed me!) But she is off. You'll have to wait until next Friday.
Avatar 12:53pm WR:

Even folks who don't know Jerry Herman by name know his work. We all have hate / love relationship with at least one version of Hello Dolly!
  12:53pm Jeff g. via app:

Peter Guralnick has a a great chapter on Sleepy in his LOST HIGHWAY collection
Avatar 12:55pm WR:

Yes, I know Jerry Herman by name because I'm a regular listener to Acid Jazz Hands on GTD Friday evenings.
Avatar 12:55pm Franco Twinkie:

Hey Granny! We're getting ready - kind of.

  1:13pm dan:

Let this sink in, January 2020 will mark 4 years since we lost David Bowie. Seems like yesterday that Ziggy Stardust went home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Martinibomb: yeah i spent last NYE at their house, listening to Haysi Fantayzee (that could be my request!) and eating fondue. Great times!
Avatar 1:15pm WR:

I didn't realize that Love quoted the Bonzos. So little time, so much to learn. And the first Bowie album is still in the top of my faves of his.
Avatar 1:15pm Martinibomb:

@Gran yup! They were just over here DJn on my Wednesday show and mentioned they knew you
Avatar 1:16pm Martinibomb:

They only live a couple blocks from me/same hood
Avatar 1:16pm Franco Twinkie:

Michael, My mom gave me Forever Changes for Christmas in 1967. When she came over for xmas dinner two nights ago, we had record quiz. I pulled the records from 1969 and my sister and I asked her if she remembered buying any of them. No she didn't! But we made a video, and that was fun.
Avatar 1:17pm still b/p:

My girlfriend gave her teenaged son a few vinyl Bowie albums for Xmas, which he's been eager to have as a new Bowie appreciator. I wondered if I should loan him my old vinyl Images, for more, y'know, grasp of the arc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Martinibomb: so cool! So you may know some other pals of mine from that crew. Wonderful neighborhood, too.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm pacific standard simon:

@ WR I'm not sure about that timeline -- I heard a rumor that The Bonzo's American bass player, Joel Druckman, got kicked out of the band for introducing that bit into the set without telling the band that he swiped it from Love. But I could be totally wrong.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Martinibomb: thanks! The genius of Jason Mecier. Check out HIS stuff (and he's good friends with Sol's crowd)
Avatar 1:37pm Martinibomb:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Doug Schulkind:

That Slim Gaillard was fantastic. I adore songs about records, jukeboxes and deejays. And related efforts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Martinibomb: Jason did the masterpiece at my house: Pencil-Vania, three flights of pencil mosaic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Uncle Michael:

Doug, I adore name-check songs. That one was a new discovery.
Avatar 1:41pm Martinibomb:
