Saw Bowie only once 1983, started with Look Back in Anger, 30,000 people, amazing.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm efd:

too seasonal!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm aratuk:

My friend is demanding an explanation for why there is so much David Bowie being played. "When did he die?" He died in January, was born in January too, so that's not it…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm aratuk:

I see that there is an explanation on the playlist. Whew!
  9:47pm prudy:

please don't play drummer boy...OY!
  9:47pm davefromtoronto:

Avatar The Evan "Funk" Davies Show Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 10:08pm patrick321:

In the early 80s the Continental was an after hours club in the west 30s that was packed after the regular clubs closed
Avatar The Evan "Funk" Davies Show Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 10:11pm patrick321:

There was a fairly large side room that served to give celebs some privacy. There was a lot of strange mixtures. I remember standing in a small group that included Vitas Gerulaitis and Lenny Kaye.
Avatar 10:12pm Andrew S:

great interview. I thought "Modern Love" was the high achievement on that record though. Can see why Bowie dug lets dance, id like to hear his thoughts on modern love.
Avatar The Evan "Funk" Davies Show Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 10:13pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I thought it was so cool that Stevie Ray Vaughn had a part of "Let's Dance."
Avatar 10:13pm Joe B:

hope you play his cover of God Only Knows. it is quite an achievement in awfulness
Avatar The Evan "Funk" Davies Show Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 10:14pm Figgsrock:

New York's in Love is gem from this era, efd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm efd:

@Joe B we were just talking about how we are NOT going to play that!
Avatar 10:16pm Andrew S:

someone gave me shit at a bar recently aboput a god only knows cover by todd fundgren. he acxtually hated todd runfgren because of it. and because he said TR ruined psychedelic furs
Avatar 10:16pm Joe B:

better choices! loving the alien also a great one from this era
Avatar The Evan "Funk" Davies Show Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 10:21pm patrick321:

Great book, not much of a movie. This tune got lost unfortunately.
  10:24pm PJ:

Isolation sounds much more like a Bowie song of this period than an Iggy song (whereas their collaboration in 77 seems more inbetween their two styles)
Avatar 10:26pm Joe B:

hah! good foreshadowing on the first mic break with time will crawl!
  10:29pm PJ:

This mid-80's snare sound - I give up, I'll tell you anything you want to know!!!
Avatar The Evan "Funk" Davies Show Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 10:30pm mcgreivey:

[Rundgren cult member alert...] There's no Rundgren cover of Goo Only Knows that I've ever heard of. There is a cover of Good Vibrations. It's pretty much a carbon copy of the Beach Boys original, maybe a hair more seventies-sounding. Todd does do Rebel Rebel live sometimes.
  10:33pm Listener Paul:

Saw Stevie Ray Vaughn open for Marshall Crenshaw and Dave Edmunds in Asbury Park Convention Hall in 1984. I blame my tinnitus on that show.
Avatar 10:33pm Andrew S:

yeah it was good vibrations my badf sorry. I have that record but havent played ot fo yeasrs. Its the double with one side covers and the other originalsd i tthink. I dont know, was just listeninbg to s diatribe
  10:34pm Lolly:

THANK you for this show. I must get both books! First saw Bowie when 11y/o STATION TO STATION tour Boston Garden. Wanted to BE him. Blew my mind (and my mom’s). ♥️♥️♥️
Avatar 10:34pm Andrew S:

i thought china girl and modern love were the best bowie tunes off lets dance and not a word
Avatar 10:36pm Joe B:

Stevie ray vaughn gained attention when he quit the bowie tour shortly before it started.
  10:36pm Dan from Delco:

I missed the God Only Knows thing, I was watching Taken, starring Liam Neeson, for the first time. What does he do in Taken 2 and Taken 3. Now I’m gonna make a sandwich for my wife so she can take it to work tomorrow.
Avatar 10:38pm Joe B:

iggy's next record was actually the subpar instinct. then came brick by brick
Avatar The Evan "Funk" Davies Show Marathon 2022 10:42pm DouglasInDallas:

Finally get the answer What About The ’80s?
  10:45pm Lolly:

@Listener Paul Haha tinnitus. I think my hearing loss is maybe worth it from all great concerts
Avatar 10:45pm Joe B:

yes bust stop, a great great number
The Evan "Funk" Davies Show Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 10:47pm Julie M:

Ah, this has been a treat. Bowie barrage without having to decide for myself what to play. And a book to put on my list. Thanks, Evan!
  10:47pm V Priceless:

  10:47pm steveL:

Bus Stop. Short and sweet.

Tin Machine to Bowie similar to Sugar to Bob Mould. Very strong output.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm efd:

hi Julie, I was hoping you were listening! Glad you're enjoying it!
  10:52pm PJ:

TM II actually sounds pretty good. First record did nothing for me, so I stopped there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm Philthy woman:

The walker n Bowie connection...illusive apparent, apparent elusive. Thanks also for bits of tin machine I had no room for before
Avatar 11:01pm Joe B:

the sound and vision tour was a total mail-in, at least the show I saw. can't always go by a concert setlist, because that looks great on paper
Avatar 11:04pm Joe B:

the nothing is changed comp, which includes Jump they say from black tie white noise, is in the wall
  11:06pm V Priceless:

‘Buddha’ is great - Sex and The Church!
  11:10pm steveL:

Earthling appealed to me. Heathen never clicked.
Avatar 11:14pm Joe B:

heathen and reality back to back i thought were fantastic. i like earthling also.
  11:14pm V Priceless:

I think a big part of DB’s return to form was hooking up with Mike Garson again from the mid-90’s forward
  11:15pm V Priceless:

@ Joe B. Agreed. And I quite like ‘hours...’ which seems almost totally forgotten
Avatar 11:15pm Joe B:

good point VP! also steveL, good point before on the sugar comparison
Avatar 11:18pm Joe B:

re hours, I tend to overlook it but something in the air and survive are keepers.
Avatar The Evan "Funk" Davies Show Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 11:19pm Figgsrock:

I've had a soft spot for Oustide (esp "Hearts Flithy Lessom") because I was working at EMi then and helped set up a Bowie in store at HMV in Herald Square. We got to meet him and he was incredibly nice to us retail stiffs.
Avatar 11:20pm Joe B:

wow, that is very cool!

@ Joe B: Cool!
Always thought ‘New Angels of Promise’ was a keeper too. Vintage Bowie sound, as was ‘The Pretty Things Have Gone to Hell’

@ Figgs - what a great experiance!

Go for it, JB! : )

  11:55pm PJ:

Great show, EFD. Bring Chris back when that last 5 song EP comes out.
  11:55pm ?:

The song with the lyric "King of Cruelty" is "Jewel." It's on a Reeves Gabrels album called Ulysses (della notte) -- available on CD Baby. The track features Gabrels, Dave Grohl, Frank Black & David Bowie. Bonus: Another song on Ulysses is sung by Robert Smith of The Cure, who co-wrote it with Gabrels. (Gabrels joined The Cure in 2012.)
  11:55pm V Priceless:
