Listener comments!

  2:28pm Listener Robert:

Since it says ODEON, I took "Gems from Tagore" to be a movie title or description, but IMDB wasn't much help.
  2:29pm Listener Robert:

Wait a minute...is Odeon a record label too?
Avatar 3:01pm Listening Out There:

Hount Mope...I'm goin' there...
Avatar 3:03pm Listening Out There:

From Discogs: Bengali songs composed by Indian poet and composer Rabindranath Tagore;
album released on occasion of Tagore birth centenary in 1961.
  3:06pm Dani:

Odeon was also the name of the subsidiary for EMI records in Spain
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Travisano66:

Sometimes music moves me in such a way that I find it hard to contain myself. But I will try.
  3:19pm Fallen:

Long live the Fall/M.E.S.!
  3:24pm Dani:

Avatar 3:24pm AnAnonymousParty:

Oh, that Jaye Bartell, with an 'e'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Passaic River Blues:

So strange!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm queems:

Avatar 3:26pm Irwin:

I seriously don't know what I make of Jaye's cover. I mean ... I mean ...
  3:26pm Dani:

Someone tell the full time WFMU playlist corrector employee to fix the Fall album title (it's infotainment scan, not scam... although infotainment scam is a also a great title)
Avatar 3:27pm Irwin:

I know one thing: HE DID IT. No one else did.
Swag For Life Member 3:27pm destructo:

Yeah, the singing could be a bit more... on key... at times... but overall I'm on board
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm zopa:

I liked the cover.
Avatar 3:28pm Irwin:

Dani: Fixed. There was a prompt for both, accidentally entered the wrong one. Thx for catching.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm zopa:

But then, I'm not familiar with the original.
  3:29pm Laura L:

I liked it too, but I don't know if I've heard the orig. either. Maybe you should play it, Irwin?
Avatar 3:30pm Irwin:

LL: I've overplayed the original. It's the BIG HIT for Broadcast. You've heard it, I'm positive.
  3:32pm Autotune:

Singing on key s overrated.
Avatar 3:32pm ottovonbqe:

While we're at it, it's "Mission of Bermuda" - thx
Avatar 3:36pm AnAnonymousParty:

Got that right, Burmese land is like monkey land, not at all like Bermuda land.
  3:36pm Fallen:

Any Trish Keenan/Broadcast is welcome.
  3:38pm Laura L:

Album title = All Songs So Far.
Avatar 3:38pm Undead83:

Zweiundzwanzig tausend siebenhundert drei is great title for a song ^^
Avatar 3:39pm ottovonbqe:

What 's that Unsterblichdreiundachzig?
Avatar 3:40pm AnAnonymousParty:

Hey when did I start getting Options? I've never had Options before have I? Or did I never notice it until today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Carmichael:

Irwin, Micah yesterday played a great candidate for your next Songs in the Key of Z release: Gini Graham Scott's "Bankruptcy Blues". It was deliciously awful.
Swag For Life Member 3:45pm destructo:

I like to think they've go the U.N. on the other line when FMU calls up to ask how to pronounce some obscure 45's title
Avatar 3:45pm Listening Out There:

Seconded: Call for Songs in the Key of Z Vol. 2
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Anyone else fired up for Dave Sewelson's new jazz show on Saturday afternoon on the Drummer stream? www.wfmu.org... The show debuts in a couple of weeks.
  3:48pm David in London:

Nice set tonight Irwin.
Avatar 3:49pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 3:49pm AnAnonymousParty:

I'm not familiar with this Jon Spencer album, am I wrong in assuming that this is the title track?
Avatar 3:49pm Irwin:

New album from JS.
Avatar 3:50pm Listening Out There:

@Ken - Thanks for the heads up on the new show. Will have to catch it, probably from the archives...
Avatar 3:51pm Itzall Ablurr:

Jon Spencer should be at least as famous as (fill in the blank) but is not.
Avatar 3:51pm AnAnonymousParty:

This sure took a turn.
Swag For Life Member 3:51pm destructo:

Some more covers of Come On Let's Go - don't know whether any of these were released on albums, and at least one is two dudes sitting on the floor in an attic (though that one's actually pretty good) www.google.com...
Avatar 3:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Hm. Pressing some KeithEmerson keys...

  4:01pm zzz:

this bad plus reminds me a bit of marco benevento
  4:01pm zzz:

sounds real good
Avatar 4:04pm Listening Out There:

zzz - TBP predates Marco B, so it might be the other way around. Both TBP and MB have performed live on this show, separately, BTW...
Avatar 4:04pm Irwin:

That's true -- and both appeared on this show twice!
Avatar 4:06pm Archivist Vivian:

Afternoon. Have a little time so I thought I'd stop by for a bit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm melinda:

Avatar 4:29pm Roberto:

Do I detect a Swan Dive in the vicinity?
Avatar 4:29pm AnAnonymousParty:

Hmm, if anyone is looking for a science fair project for their kid: Is it possible to determine how long a cup of coffee has been sitting out based on the progression of mold growth (color/pattern/%coverage)?
Avatar 4:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Irwin - you're rather good @ this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Carmichael:

I thought this might be Jane Siberry.
Avatar 4:38pm βrian:

I'm a believer in never heating coffee, once brewed. If it's left to just cool — slowly in an insulated vessel or not — it well taste fine 24 hours later. Best to refrigerate, of course.
  4:38pm what:

what made u play that Swan Dive track? What do they mean to you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Michael 98145:

cold-brew coffee appears to be the latest craze. not sure why ...
Avatar 4:42pm Irwin:

I love Swan Dive and I'm pretty much the only FMU show that airs them. This is a musical injustice!
Avatar 4:43pm Roberto:

I'm with you, Irwin. Swan Dive 4ever!
  4:43pm what:

fair answer. Do u know them personally?
Avatar 4:44pm Irwin:

We've spoken, they have an open invite to play on this show. Why asking?
Avatar 4:44pm Hoboken Jack:

Hello Irwin, Laura, Ken, and I like to think Fredericks is out there somewhere.
Avatar 4:46pm βrian:

Shovel-loads of praise for this show, Irwin.
Avatar 4:46pm Paul D:

I'm enjoying this spunky music.
  4:47pm Laura L:

Hi ya HJ--didn't I see a picture of you somewhere recently in front of one of the splendid Wegman murals at 23rd St. subway or am I dreaming I saw that somewhere?
  4:47pm what:

It seems their albums only get released in Japan and Korea, altho i only checked 2 albums. I just wondered why u played this obscure track from 1998 and why u picked it today of all days. Do they live in Asia?
  4:49pm what:

by the way, any odea what a breezeway is? Like a draught under a door?
Avatar 4:51pm Hoboken Jack:

Yes Laura, it is my FB profile pic at the moment! Got such a kick when I saw those.
Avatar 4:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I think E.S.T. likes Vince Guaraldi whom I think liked Bill Evans but how could I know.
I like them.
  4:53pm Dick:

Lovin' that album title
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm melinda:

A breezeway is an enclosed passage between two buildings. Like between a house and a garage.
Avatar 4:54pm Irwin:

What's a bulwark?
  4:55pm Laura L:

HJ, Ah, yes, that's where I saw you--I was looking something up on FB--and there you were. Bill's a pal--here's a nice one of him there too. https://www.6sqft.com/william-wegmans-famous-dog-murals-cheer-up-the-newly-reopened-23rd-street-f-m-station/
  4:55pm Ven:

Could you possibly play "Fight or Flight ..." off the new Kommode album? Same groove as this wonderful set. Eirik (of Kings of Convenience) will be visiting WFMU this April.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm melinda:

It might also refer to unenclosed passages.
Avatar 4:55pm Irwin:

Then explain bollards.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm chris:

bollards are used to prevent morons from driving through breezeways

great musics today, Irwin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Michael 98145:

what chris just said
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm chris:

US gov't. is currently shut down because the moron in chief wants to build a bulwark along the southern border.
Avatar 5:03pm Irwin:

Could a bulwark do the same job as bollards?
  5:06pm katharsis:

Hellos. How appropriate. I’m reading Ulysses
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm chris:

bollards are friendlier to pedestrians, i imagine.
Avatar 5:06pm βrian:

Bollards are bites en français. Mind the bite, mon ami.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm dale:

liked that lorkin fellow - google says he's now a poughkepsie boy.
  5:09pm Robin Eisgrau:

Great music! Always good to hear you, Irwin.
Avatar 5:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Never Mind the Bollards
Here's the Shutdown Pustules
Avatar 5:10pm Irwin:

Hi, longtime listener-supporter-encourager Robin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm ɛɨk:

Bollards are where you fast the line from your submarine after smuggling drugs across the Gulf of Mexico while laughing at the morons who think anybody's sneaking drugs across the un-bulwarked land border.
Avatar 5:11pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Thot BlueCheer half a sec.
Avatar 5:12pm Irwin:

1971 on this one.
Avatar 5:13pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...or CaptainBeyond - since the nation is Dancing Madly Backwards...
Always thinking something is like someone on my Supernatural FairyTales sampler - but I can't decide which...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Carmichael:

Actually, a breezeway, as I know it, is a walkway with a roof over it. No walls, just poles holding up the roof.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm dale:

this is very e.l.p.
  5:15pm Ven:

Dale, ditto
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm Carmichael:

Awesome prog, Irwin.
Avatar 5:16pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'On the Knifedge'...probly simply that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm dale:

prog archives says patrick moraz with the main dude in this - he ruined the moody blues with cheesy synth after mike pinder left.
Avatar 5:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

You must get yer keyboard tones right.
  5:18pm Ven:

I miss David ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm ɨkɛ:

This is good! But are you really allowed to play the non-German version of this song on WFMU? Isn't this a violation of your contract with Station Manager Ken?
  5:20pm Socialista:

Bollards can eat the rich.Bulwarks starve the poor.Love David Bowie.
Avatar 5:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

What about Seu Jorge in Portuguese?
  5:22pm Santa:

Christmas pudding and ice-cream anyone?
  5:22pm spodiodi:

any pie?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm coelacanth∅:

pie's good if you have any. or roasted brussels sprouts.
either one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Carmichael:

I saw Moody Blues with Moraz. In a great Spinal Tap moment, his keyboards failed to open from the middle, door-like, for him to walk down with a synth axe for the big solo. He had to turn sideways and scoot his ample personage between them, all the while cursing at the roadies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm coelacanth∅:

...so a breezeway extending from california to texas, along the border, wouldn't necessarily keep the bad guys in, er i mean out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Carmichael:

No, but it would keep them nice and shady as they climbed the bulwarks.
Avatar 5:31pm Listening Out There:

The Mainhorse track was an interesting one. Singer, organ sounded like Keith Emerson. Guitar work sounded like Jethro Tull. Never heard of the band, though..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm dale:

carmichael -i saw them in 78 i think for the octave tour. with out a mellotron it seemed hollow sounding.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm coelacanth∅:

i'll gladly allocate someone else's money for that; as long as we have concession stands along the whole length of it.
  5:34pm katharsis:

gotta get a rain check on pain

Avatar 5:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I think it could be very easily done right here on Highway 61...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm coelacanth∅:

katharsis can we do that?
-or did i have to do it while the sale was still on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm coelacanth∅:

RR that sounds like an element in "1984" that Orwell just forgot to mention.
  5:39pm Robin Eisgrau:

You've always exposed me to excellent music Irwin. Your show is great.

Yes absolutely not just a one time offer. let’s make it more like a hat check
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm coelacanth∅:

i know i paid for that hat, but i might "accidentally" forget about it there.
  5:43pm spodiodi:

I agree with Robin Eisgrau. Love your show, Irwin.
